True, but most of that is due to the motherboard and BIOS tests. It probably takes 15-20 seconds for the computer to start loading Windows. No way to speed that up other than a new motherboard
True, but he said SATA II connector, and his POST settings maybe not be streamlined. You should really start timing from when POST screen disappears to the time you are sitting in Windows with no HDD LED accessing. Then it seemed more like 11 seconds to me. I put an SSD in someones machine last month. Haswell i3, 8GB DDR3 and from post to windows 7 login screen it's under 3 seconds. That's through SATA III though, on an Asus board. Before the SSD it was more like 35 seconds with the mechanical HD.
A lack of an SSD is easily the biggest performance bottle neck you'll have on any computer. SSDs are so cheap now that there's no reason to avoid them.
gonna vouch for this guy, i have a 125 gig samsung and turning on and off is a breeze give it a few years and we'll probably just start switching to 1tb ssdrives
I too have already replaced a HDD on an old Celeron (2007 or earlier) build with a SSD. While on SATA 1 (or 2), the SSD is still way faster than HDDs. This definitely extends its life being a home work horse.
I just built my first computer a couple of days ago and I got a M.2 drive. HOLY MOLY. I timed it the day I built and it took 8.18 seconds to boot. Also I did that after I installed necessities like Steam, Origin, Discord, Skype, and Google Chrome (and of course drivers). Also I might be a little bit spoiled because the M.2 drive is my first SSD as well. But hey whatever. So much better than my old 1 TB SSHD.
Thanks for making this video. When I type "SK hynix SL308" like 90% of the videos are in some other language. I have an old (2011) pc I built and it's getting reallllllllllllllly slow. I'm planning on buying an ssd and sk hynix seems like a decent cheap drive.
No problem! That's part of the reason I started making videos. You either get good info on only the most popular brands and devices, or you get different languages. And yeah the SK hynix is awesome, I'm really glad I picked it
SSD had windows 10 (probably fresh install) and the HDD had windows 7 (probably cluttered with junk) I completely agree they are way better, but this a misleading side by side comparison.
It maxed out here in the UK at £115, or around $150. Now they dropped again to £80 (or $115) but we ALWAYS get ripped off here for tech, compared to the US. Nice drive anyways. Cheapest on the market by around £20.
26seconds is still huge for an SSD though.

there might be some settings in the BIOS to get rid of some of that time (USB devices in POST etc).

Matt Wood
seems he is using a rather old set up, probably low processor mother board and ram, a ssd will improve its speed but can not do miracles,
True but still much better than any HDDs. Even 7200 rpm HDDs can't keep up!
cant wait too see you pass 100k subs . good luck man !

Only a year or two ago, the price per gigabyte was way out of whack. It's amazing how much prices have fallen, even with the NAND shortage, isn't it?
3-4 years ago, 2 years ago bought mine for 40€ 120GB SSD

Exactly, I'm stoked for SSD capacities to get big (and cheap) enough to just be "standard". Hard drives suck!

My seven year old hard drive takes 16 seconds to boot to windows 10 pro... atleast it did before the breaker flipped on a windows update 😔

Good Vid anon.
Thanks man!
Great video!
Price has increased to $89.
Robert Crawford now it's $96

But HOW?
It installs like a regular hard drive, then you'll need to reinstall Windows on it and transfer all your files. Or were you asking a different 'how'?
I was asking about "how" it can be so cheap xD, I'm not a rooky :P
Oh lol, gotcha. The magic of the capitalism!
sadly this ssd is $94 now , and the 500GB link in the description is $164. :(
that sk ssd is really good. be careful what you buy, they are all not created equal.
my Intel ssd takes like 9 seconds on a bad day...
Finally a Windows install can shutdown as fast as a Linux on a regular Sata 2 HDD :D
Bruh a Honda Civic has Vtec, much better than a Ferrari :P
aint 65 no more, your popularity rose it to 85 :p
I hope you aren't fast, if you know what I mean.
