I had a1974 Ford Courier, mine was yellow, with a brown stripe on the side. The little truck was reliable & averaged 26 mpg hy. I bought it used in 1979 at Columbia, Illinois. I drove it to work in St.Louis, Mo. They are good little pickups. They really were a Mazda, with Ford Courier badging. Have a blessed day. Kevin Phoenix
My Grandparents bought the EXACT same truck new in 74. Same color and everything. They drove the piss out of it until the early 90s, then sold it to a guy in Kansas City. He came down and picked it up, and drove it all the way back from Mountain Home, Arkansas at a whopping 50 mph lol. I remember my Granddad rebuilding the engine at least once in that thing. Super cool vid. That brought back some memories.
My dad had one of these (same color) as a daily driver until the early 1980’s. The bearings in the engine started to go around 190,000 miles when he replaced it. He loved it!
I was born in 1971 and my dad had a green one like this from my earliest memories. I still remember riding home at night and seeing the green glow of the gauges and vent controls. This really takes me back.
I have the same 1974 lime green Courier with the sun brunt speaker cover, but mine has an 8 Trak player and CB radio underneath it. I just need to replace the water pump and torque down the head now. But perhaps it is a good time to just do a complete engine rebuild.
As soon as you turned the ignition on and heard the engine running, I was delighted and relieved, and hit the "like" button! 😀 There's nothing like a true, manly engine running! It's like feeling the strength of meeting your dad again! Love the looks, the olive green color, the long seat, the uncluttered interior and dashboard, or the fact that there are no digital, pervading gadgets to distract you or to tell you something's wrong! It's only you and the pick up intended to do its job, rather than looking prissy! Good old days! Actually, I just read an article in Google saying that Ford realized that there's a need for small pickups in the current US market and that's why it came out with the Ford Maverick! Well, the Maverick was such a success that Ford was totally out of stock quickly, so they stopped sales until they restock. Although the new Maverick is a double cabin, Ford's is thinking about offering more size choices. Anyway, I've the seen the new Maverick and totally fell in love with it cause I could picture myself in it, a normal middle class person! The one I had the pleasure to see was a blueish, greenish, grayish color mix. It was not your typical over-sculpted, overloaded, gas guzzling monster, but a simpler, squarish, and closer-to-the-ground body with great cabin visibility which felt very American! It made me feel good and happy to know that Ford and perhaps other American car companies are coming back to their senses and to American practicality and sense of style! So, thanks guys for sharing this well maintained beauty!
I had one exactly like that in Oregon in 1979. St. Helen's to be exact with a Crunk on the right fender just like that one. Brings back good memories. I now drive a94 ranger
My dad bought a '74 Courier around 1980. It's still sitting in the yard. We started cleaning it up yesterday, probably going to sell it. Long long ago (over 30 years ago) he started to convert it from automatic to standard, then quit and it's been sitting ever since.
OMG, the memories! i swear the signature of the Courier was the piece taken out of the dash speaker...I dont think i ever saw a courier with one intact...lol
i learned how to drive a straight drive in one of those..my brother in law taught me how in 1983..i almost drove thru their chicken coop...but i eventually got the hang of it...lol...ahh the memories . you know , its funny..if you ask ANYONE how they learned, that they will have a funny story too of mishaps.
My grandparents had a Ford courier. I don’t know what year it was but this brings back memories. Theirs was light blue, it had probably been repainted because I also remember it being red.
What a great little truck. They did a good job on the front grille to make it look like a baby F series of the era so people would think at first glance its a true Ford, when it was really manufactured by Mazda in Japan.
I had a 74 Courier in the late 80s. It was a great little truck, but it had its quirks. On cold mornings I had to wedge a nickel between the choke knob and the dash to keep the choke pulled out a little bit until I got it out on the highway. The manual adjust brakes had to be adjusted about twice a year.
1974 Ford Currier was my first vehicle at age 16 in 1982. I put on wider wheels, low profile tires, Weber carburetor, lowered the whole truck. Mini trucks where the in thing when I was in high school. It was a great truck. I finally sold it for a 1973 Datsun 240Z which was a fun car.
While this is a rebadged Mazda, Japan kept the good stuff and sent America a bag of stems and seeds. They had the legendary Mazda REPU, 'rotary powered pick up.' It was was also imported here as a Mazda, but they were rare. And fast.
The trucks Japan sent over to this country were exactly the very same as they had in their own country. Yes, this is a Mazda truck, matter of fact, my 1992 Ford Escort is actually a Mazda 323, and it's still running.
Never owned one or driven one but I always thought they were one of the neatest little trucks around. Basic and simple, I always thought the built in tie down hooks along the box edge were a great idea. Would love to have one of them especially in great condition like this one! 👍
Had 86 Isuzu pup brand new 5600.00 both my sons learned to drive on it , had for 21 years basic maintenance replaced a heater hose, man i should have never sold it. Best vehicle I ever owned. 190k still going.
To the both of you guys here, The S 10 and the GMC Sonomas had Isuzu engines in them. I owned a GMC Sonoma and it had an Izuzu engine in it, and had a Chevy Colorado patrol truck that had a Isuzu engine in it to. I've seen Isuzu Rodios with Chevy Vortec V6 engines in them with a Chevy rear end in them to. Go Figure.
@@heknows5418 Yes, I quite know. The LUV had Isuzu engines in them, The Couriers had Mazda engines in them, and the Dodge D 50 had Mitsubishi engines in them.
Wish they were still made. I love these little trucks a great deal. In order to keep them preserved though, at least every two years gotta spray paint the underside of them with black rust olem paint on the inderside of the chassis and floorboards along with the frame, and if you could get into the inner fenders, that to would help keep the fenders from them from rusting out.
They had one here in town 2 weeks ago at $2,500 good condition running and drying and my stupid self slept on that deal and lost it. Now I can’t seem to find anything nationwide.
That is a neat little truck. And I salute you. You are the first person I have seen on RUclips that knows how to shift a manual. I watch these idiots with high dollar corvettes missing gears and dumping clutch. I want to yell at my screen and say NOOOOOO. Nice video
You can say that. Here it goes. Ford, Nissan, Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Austin Martin, and Kia are all tied in with Ford Motor Corporation. Case in point, the Datsun 300 Z car has a 300 cubic inch straight six cylinder Ford engine in it. The Mercury Villager is a Nissan Quest. The Ford Escort, which I do own a 1992, still runs to at over 100 thousand miles on the engine, is a Mazda 323. And a kid I went to school with had a Ford Aspire. Right there on the front left door, the tag said Manufactured for Ford by Kia Motor Division. Seen it with my own eyes. These little Courrier trucks were nothing but Mazda trucks with Ford labeling on them, but, I still love them, wish they would come back on the market all over again.
Mine was gutless and backfired a lot. Had to down shift it on the slightest inclines like the slight hill between Avila Beach and Shell Beach on US 101.
Fords are excellent cars and trucks. Prefer a Ford over a Chevy any day of the week. My Ford Escort is still running, a 1992 at over 100,000 miles on the engine.

My uncle Winston had one when I was a little kid, about 1980. Red. I remember that hood opened from the back. I thought that was cool.
Man that's sharp. My first car was a 1980 ford courier, wish I was old enough to appreciate at it back in 1999
I had this exact pickup. It was awesome.
I had a 74 Mazda. Miss that truck..

One of the perfect compact pickup to own

The sound of a Model A when it started with choke out.
She's a beautiful pickup
Learned to drive with this truck back in 1982. It was a convertible Ford Courier.

Yes, it was.
