I wonder how different German unification would be under AUSTRIAN, not PRUSSIAN, leadership. It would definitely be different in internal policies (less militaristic, less oppressive, more socially liberal, more Catholic-Bavarian like in my opinion, maybe even WW1 wouldn't happen with France and Russia?)
I don't know if it was a mistake, but you said that the Prussian king wore black, yellow, and gold and that those colors constitute the current Germany flag, which is black red and gold. 3:16

Sorry to disappoint you, but Napoleon didn't "make" the emperor abolish the HRE, it's just that the emperor didn't want Napoleon to be able to annex the HRE as a whole country, so he dissolved it to make it harder to invade & conquer
It's a German legend. Emperor Napoleon the third was a Dark Emperor of the French, so powerful and so ambitious that he could use the French nationalism to influence the populace to create war… He had such a knowledge of warfare, he could even keep the territory he cared about from being annexed. He could actually save territory from annexation? He became so patriotic… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his territory, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice, *the French Third Republic*, everything he knew, then his republic killed his empire in his capture. Ironic. He could save other's territory from capture, but not his own.
Can No, kaiser wilhelm still reigned after WW1, he also helped germany to defeat the syndicalists but sadly died before he saw the end of the second weltkrieg
How crazy is that? French philosophy is responsible for the french revolution, the french revolution allowed Napoleon to take power. Napoleon is responsible for uniting Germany (indirectly), German unification is responsible for german nationalism and rapid expansion, which itself is responsible for the french 1871 defeat, which in turn is responsible for WW1. And WW1 led to WW2. Both world wars are responsible for making the USA filthy rich, which in turn led to our current world. If a couple of philosophers didn't exist 200+ years ago, our world would be drastically different right now.
The american revolution is also an important factor, but it's mostly because France lost a lot of money and got terrible debt over it. This meant high taxes. The injustice of the "top 1%" being exempted from taxes was also a very important factor. But these factors are not enough to make a french revolution. Without the philosophers you would just get civil unrest and nothing more. The philosophers of the time were responsible for the death of monarchy.
There is also a line of thought that believes the failed revolutions of 1848, which resulted in a lot of liberal Germans being exiled for their participation (see: the 48ers), is what set the stage for the eventual Nazi takeover of Germany, as the liberal/radical factions that supported nationalism were weakened, allowing for the forces of conservatism and reaction to take the helm, a la Bismarck and company. At the same time, a lot of the exiled German liberals went to the US and ended up being influential in building up local socialist traditions in places like Milwaukee. Thousands of 'em joined the Union army during the Civil War. So they were pretty cool.
Don't be surprised when the past affects the present. It is just a simple matter of cause and effect but on a much much larger scale. Past events like the long past splitup of the Carolingian Empire into three shaped much of Europe's history thus the world's history up to the present. Any effects of the events from the past, no matter how small it was, will only get bigger as time goes by.
Honestly, it was prerry much a coinflip sizuation, either prussia or austria wins... End of story, the second Austria lost the war they esentially lost germany

When I saw the painting of Wilhelm 1’s coronation, I thought, “Wow, this looks really medieval and feels like a long time ago.” Then I remembered that at this time, America was fighting itself, and I felt a bit stupid. World history is weird.
When is the third German called Otto coming to create an empire? There was Otto I/the Great who did his Holy Roman stuff and then Otto von Bismarck with his unification..... Who's next? Sadly not Otto Habsburg.... he's dead.
Otto von Habsburg was a major proponent of the European Union and helped to establish its legitimacy, and the EU is largely run by the Germans, so in a sense, he did establish another Empire.
Well if you wanna be nitpicky then Otto wasn't the first Holy Roman Emperor that would be Charlemagne and Otto's father Heinrch already was king of East Francia.

I'd be really interested to know how the unification ceremony from that famous painting actually looked like. I know there was some controversy over "Kaiser von Deutchland" or "Deutchen Kaiser", ultimately resolved by simply "Kaiser", but other than that no sources (perhaps except German ones, but my knowledge of this language is too limited to make something out of it)
The Luxembourg crisis wasn't the reason why the Franche-german war started it was a result of the Spanish succession crisis and an following "insult "from the prussian king at napoleon 3. But the rest was nice
So in the video, it says Wilhelm is declared "German Emperor", while in the audio voiceover he describes Wilhelm as the "Emperor of Germany". You might be wondering why there are two titles when referring to the event, what the difference between the two titles are. "German Emperor" simply refers to an emperor, who is German and does not lay claim to being the Emperor of every German state. "Emperor of Germany", however, does lay these claims. Before the proclamation of the German Empire in Versailles, Wilhelm refused to be proclaimed as anything other than "Emperor of Germany", while the various German Princes didn't accept this title. Bismarck sided with the princes and tried to convince Wilhelm to accept the title "German Emperor", which was acceptable for the princes, for the sake of unity. This debate was still unsolved in the hall of mirrors, where it came down to Frederick Duke of Baden, who was the person responsible for the proclamation of Wilhelm. With the whole room anxious to see if he would side with Wilhelm or Bismarck and the Princes, he proclaimed: "Long live his majesty, Emperor Wilhelm". This short proclamation was seen as an affront by many, but it did allow for the time Bismarck need to convince WIlhelm to accept the title of "German Emperor"
Jäcky van Maaßtricht hahaha the closest to an unified germanic mainland state it ever got was under the HRE. Additionally little heads up, when the habsburgs tried to unify and centralize it in the late medieval age and early Renaissance it ended with the swiss germans (predominantly allemanic germans) beating them to gain first independence within the reich and afterwards to fully leave the HRE.
Shellshocked German it was though, in it were the dutch, swiss, austrians, the main krauts, sudets and yes there were some bohemians and some italians and some longobards in there but considering that those showed no interest in leaving so long the thing was federal and decentralized there would've been not that much problems.

Come on, @Google ! No one says "I'm dying" when their laptop or phone is running low on battery. It is incredibly frustrating when I see big budget advertisements that are so detached from the people their target demographic. Other than that, great video! I'll watch the next one in July 2019
Here's how it happened: 1. Prussia researched Nationalism and Imperialism 2. Prussia rekt Austria in the brothers war 3. Prussia picked "The North German Confederation" 4. Germany also rekt France for alsace-lorraine 5. Germany picked "Three Hurrahs for Germany!" Pls like took long to research
It's Germania, a personification of Germany. That painting by an unknown artist was displayed prominently in the revolutionary Frankfurt Parliament of 1848 that tried to unite Germany in a constitutional monarchy (and failed in 1849).
I think the fact that its not North German Federation is just a term lost in translation. The German word used here, 'Bund,' can mean league, Federation or Confederation.
I feel the Holy Roman Empire as a good thing but it needs a lot of reforms trying to fix the balance of power in central Europe and dynasty powers, they also had deal with social stuff before ideology is influencing the people.
Well, I'm german and at school we learned the reason why nowadays german flag is black, red and gold is because the republic of weimar (Weimarer Republik) received that flag firstly and it was selected by the allies. But back then people called the flag "Schwarz, Rot, Senf" (black, red, mustard) because they hated democracy instead of monarchy so much. Since nowadays german constitution and state is pretty much equal to the system of weimar from 1919-1933 (in fact even 1945, the constitution of weimar was still active until may, 8th of 1945 and 1949) and is just a reworked version for better balances of power, they also brang back the old mustard flag for the BRD and DDR. That's what we learned in school (12th grade in germany)

It's a Danebrog with regimental symbols in the corners.
So what you're saying is that the Germans had their own (retroactive) version of Manifest Destiny. Neat!
I'm not sure, but did you mean black, *red* and gold as in the video it is black, yellow and gold
I wonder how delayed German unification would be Napoleon dissolved the Holly Roman Empire. If he took control of a state that was one of the electors. Maybe put a friendly head as another elector.
1:00 does it really say illyric tribes at the bottom of the map??? this has to be a mistake!
No there it says "Illyrische Provinzen". Illyirien or Illyria is a classical name of this part of the Balkan Region.

Medical research has shown harmful effects from the hearin of fast speakin, and the speakers have slight medical condition, though I forgot whether it is nerves, excess food of some kind or what. Ref. book Healing Ourselves for the cause of fast speakin.
Can I dislike a video by the advertisement played in the beginning? It was the Google Pixelbook "I'm dying" ad. I think that gives me a right to come into this video a little upset. Come on, @Google ! No one says "I'm dying" when their laptop or phone is running low on battery. It is incredibly frustrating when I see big budget advertisements that are so detached from the people their target demographic. Other than that, great video! I'll watch the next one in July 2019
Can u please do a video about USA in interbellum period?
Why is there a byzantine flag at 5.15 when talking about Schleswig Wars?
Here's how it happened:
1. Prussia researched Nationalism and Imperialism
2. Prussia rekt Austria in the brothers war
3. Prussia picked "The North German Confederation"
4. Germany also rekt France for alsace-lorraine
5. Germany picked "Three Hurrahs for Germany!"
Pls like took long to research

Just one little thing...do you mean black, red and gold? You said yellow and gold in the video...just a tiny thing...otherwise, excellent as always...
Who was that girl at the end holding the flag?
It's Germania, a personification of Germany. That painting by an unknown artist was displayed prominently in the revolutionary Frankfurt Parliament of 1848 that tried to unite Germany in a constitutional monarchy (and failed in 1849).
3:10 You mean Black, Red and Gold? Yellow and Gold are essentially the same color when it comes to flags.
good vid
I think the fact that its not North German Federation is just a term lost in translation. The German word used here, 'Bund,' can mean league, Federation or Confederation.
Hahahahahaha Otto 'Palpatin' von Bismark. Hahahaha that last part was funny xD
Can you do what if Bavaria was a powerful German power.
I feel the Holy Roman Empire as a good thing but it needs a lot of reforms trying to fix the balance of power in central Europe and dynasty powers, they also had deal with social stuff before ideology is influencing the people.

3:10 Could be, you have to mention none of this is set in stone. We have no definitive answer to where the color scheme originated from.
German history can be very interesting and had a lot to do with world history. This video was amazing
3:16 should be black, red and gold
