#macgyver #classictv #videoessay
I thought Amelia Earhart was abducted by aliens and is currently awaiting Voyager to awaken her from stasis so she can make a new life on a new planet.
I thought that was going to be the punchline also!
Not going to lie your MacGyver videos are some of my favorite that you produce. That being said, I'm glad you dont make that often. Otherwise they may get stale to me and that would be tragic.
An NYPD Blue and Voyager crossover joke in a MacGyver episode. Entering the Steveverse.
Obviously that music box wasn't Granny.
Clearly it was Will Riker, trying to freak Deanna Troi out, because we all know how much she loves a music box. 😂
"I'll just put this back where it belongs, in granny's bedroom..."
I laughed out loud in my pickup driving down the road to that.
Well done.
The Cool Surface reference really hit home Steve. Thought I was the only one. Thanks for being so relatable!
I have to say that the editing of the sheriff being killed in a freak accident is very fun. I love it when shows hint at ghosts not through ghostly imagery but through impossible scenarios.
Macgyver could've just used the lead bones to find out that the skull was Aunt Betty but I guess that wasn't creepy enough.😂
Even today, lots of detective and procedural shows end with a "killer confesses to their crimes because the protagonist guessed how it happened even though there's no actual evidence to link them to the murder" scene, and every time they do that a little piece of me dies. But at least we still have Teri Hatcher, right?
90% of those killers would have walked away free if, instead of monologuing, they'd asked for a lawyer.
I love how in many English shows, where the cops don’t often have guns, the villains just comply with law enforcement instructions. All they have to do is walk away!
@@WhyTheHorseface But Poirot may run after them and shout and yell.
Wait, no. That's just unseemly. That can't happen.
@@WhyTheHorseface I mean did Columbo ever have to pull a gun on a suspect (okay once or twice he had someone else pull a gun on a suspect)?
@@WhyTheHorsefacethey have big sticks though
Man, im so glad regulators mandated gazebos stop being built with explosive timbers. I had to replace my old explody gazebo from the 70s when I had kids.
Wait, Amelia Earhart was abducted by... oh right, Voyager. Carry on.
This was fun! I'd love to see your take on the Quantum Leap Halloween episode.
Penny Parker is my favourite quest in MacGyver.
Probably only woman in series who isn't Macs ex or won't have one night stand.
She is full of life and joy even when she ends up batshitcrazy situations and almost killed in horrible ways, but never give up smiling for everything good.
You never realize how prolific Teri Hatcher's acting career is until you're prompted to look up her IMDB by a video about MacGyver...
My favorite Lois Lane
9:38 I've always wanted to see a documentary on like Discovery channel or somethign relevant, where they take a CT scan (or similar) of a person, and then 3D print their skull and then have a forensic person sculpt the face and compare to the real life person. (same with sketching)... Just to see how good it is. Or also like, give a baby photo to a forensic expert and ask them to age the person up, and then show them the real person that walks in. lol
I did see a remarkable program not too long ago on PBS about doing pretty much what you’re describing for an ancient skull from (if I remember correctly) an Egyptian tomb. It was fascinating and really cool at the end. Wish I could remember the name of it, sorry!
This was one of the earliest episodes of MacGyver I remember. This and the bomb on the cruise ship one.
The late 80’s nostalgia is full in this one. Love it.
'That's right, Jerry. They're Real and they're Spectacular.'
Yes! More MacGyver, please. Do the one where he goes to the Middle Ages!
Another Macgyver video? How did I miss this!? Dang it, RUclips! Great work Steve!
wow, I remember watching this, the night it aired, way back when locally printed off-brand notTV Guides were key references to daily life.
A decade later, I worked for TV Guide for a summer.
2.5 decades later ... WtF's a "TV Guide"?
If I was a sheriff who committed murder decades ago (and had thus far gotten away with it) and some interloper sculpted something onto just about the only evidence of my crime, I wouldn't be too upset about it. Calling Mac out on his nonsense art project probably gained him enough credibility to pad out the rest of the episode.
I didn't know MacGyver was that versatile. He could compete with Barbie. Where can I get a MacGyver action figure/doll?
Pleasantly surprised someone your age watched Macgyver. But as a child of the 80s I'm glad you did.
I have find memories of watching that ridiculous show as a teenager.
I did a quick glance of your videos and didn't see any on Stargate SG-1.
It's also ridiculous and is a good blend of Star Trek technobabble and Macgyver if only because Richard Dean Anderson is in it.
I'd be interested in your viewpoints on it.
5:41 you ckept wearing costumes to your anniversary dinners didn't you??? *long sigh*
I wonder if, on the day you run out of Macgyver episodes, you'd take a run at The Pretender. It crosses into camp and the bizarre almost as often
Steve, do you want to talk to us about Three's Company?
If we're gonna keep breaking into your house while you're stimming about classic TV you can pick the topic, promise.
You know, with all the love for MacGyver and Star Trek, I wonder why Steve doesn't seem to be in to Stargate, watching MacGyver do Star Trek stuff.
There is that episode where Mac teaches physics to a very young Christopher Judge
Now that I think about it, I recall Teri Hatcher making a brief appearance in the season 2 TNG episode, The Outrageous Okona. How is it that she never did an episode of Stargate SG-1?
Mac decided who the skull belonged to before he even went shopping because the wig he bought was perfect for Betty. It was not so good for some nameless drifter that just happened to die there. I don't know what Angus makes but I don't have multiple wig money just sitting around.
Okay wait, who drugged the coffee?
The sheriff. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.
As much as it is bonkers that MacGyver messed with that skull ..... The Sheriff only scolding him makes a lot of sense, like you pointed out yourself if that was brought to court it would definitely screw up the case..... And since he was the killer, even though he acted mad that would play right into his hands....So I understand disbelief that what MacGyver was doing skull,But the fact of the sheriff only just scolded him makes a lot of sense
McGyver was the inspiration for Jamie from Mythbusters having like 40 careers
The whole Jack and Lana thing never made sense. Even as a young kid we knew Lana was a hot cougar and Jack was always looking to score. Of course in real life Jack probably would be paying child support to 5 different women on a chef's salary
Using this video to state: don’t get married on holidays. There is the positive and negative reason. The positive is that you get to chose a special holiday for you and your love and it should be your day and your’s alone. The negative, if the marriage doesn’t work out you’ve ruined a holiday for yourself. The festivities will be a yearly reminder. I don’t care which reason you cite but please, please, please don’t get married on a holiday. It’s best in the long run.
I thought Amelia Earhart ended up in the Delta Quadrant and was frozen until the 24th Century?
Could be worse. Pennys birthday could have been on 9/11 .
Of course, there is that time Mac died and interacted with his dead relatives, before hopping off the boat to the afterlife (literally) and saving the day!
Passages, love that episode
This is one of the few episodes of McGyver I have clear memories of. I just remember the facial reconstruction, I would not have be able to say that Teri Hatcher played the female costar etc. I've seen maybe a dozen maybe a couple of dozen McGyver episodes, but most of them fade into a dull blur in my mind. Like I also remember the ending, but I would not have been sure if it was a McGyver episode or one of any number of other shows were the murder dies in some improbable accident implying that their victim's ghost has exacted vengeance beyond the grave. I think this episode was also my first introduction to the idea of forensic reconstruction of a face from a skull, it seemed very outlandish the way McGyver did it.
Damn didnt know it came out in the 80s. Crazy to think a lot of these shows were already over when i was starting to watch them as a kid. Same with Quantum Leap.
I'm a big Star Trek fan, but I'm always excited to see your videos on other subjects. Wouldn't mind videos on any other shows you love!
@7:00 I don't get the Amelia Eahart reference
I thought you were going to make a Voyager joke
Quoth the crow "who the phuck gets married on Halloween anyhow"
When you say Teri Hatcher is in a production, the adjectives about her character's beauty are unneccesary.. When she is mentioned, everybody's mind is rolling off the whole dictionary of beauty descriptors non stop like one of those tibetan prayer cylinders.
You would only need to mention if some insane person were to make her play an ugly and repulsive person, although i would not know how they'd pull that off. Im pretty sure Teri would just look like a gorgeous woman disguised as an ugly one similar to how star trek aliens are alwasy humans with a weird nose or a funny shape on their foreheads.
It is that i dont do spiteful envy or id be coveting her looks so badly that god would upgrade envy to a mortal sin LOL. And no. never had a girl crush on her. i categorically _deny_ and i am sticking to that O:-)
There's a movie with a naked Terri Hatcher?!😮
Where’s the MacGyver escape room video game?
Spookers.
You did NOT casually reference 'Hello' music video by Lionel Richie!!! You have brought me more joy than you can imagine!🙆🏽♀️ Also, "McGuyver that s***" was a classic phrase on the playground!
Jack Tripper, Jack The Ripper; I see what they did there...
Steve, plezse keep the MacGyvers coming. So entertaining! My favorite episodes was the evil girlfriend one and the one where Mac and Harry were trapped in the Phoenix building.
Those are two of my favorites, too! I'll get around to those before too long for sure.
Terry was a top beauty but Stargate is a much better show.
Agreed on both points. I wonder if Richard Dean Anderson had ever invited her to make a cameo on Stargate at any point during its ten season run.
I'm going to a wedding on Halloween, six days from now...should the couple be worried?
@helljumper2693 also claims to have been married on Halloween and then divorced. Two is a coincidence. Three would be a trend. Good luck to them.
wait, if your wedding anniversary is on Halloween, you had your wedding on Halloween?! Who marries on Halloween?!
Nobody- Officer Albrecht “The Crow”
Zombie themed wedding?
My partner and I are marrying just before Halloween because we don't want to spoil the holiday but want it as part of our marriage.
I’ve met a few people who married on Halloween, lol. But then again, I tend to hang out with (other) oddballs. 😏 I actually kind of get it, if you really love the holiday and it has a lot of meaning to you.
Now, I *can* tell you from unfortunate experience one of the worst days to get married on: your birthday. My ex and I have the same birthday (different years, though). We thought it would be cool to get married on it. And then years later when the (very acrimonious) divorce happened… well, it takes a while to stop associating your own damn birthday with your former anniversary! Yeah, keep your personal important days separate is my 2¢! 😣
I, too, was married on a Halloween and am now divorced 😂 and love your channel
I was the 70th like on this video.
I'm sorry.
I watched MacGyver every week when I was a kid and yet, this episode is the only one I still distinctly remember from that first run.
Your reviews have set me on a current rewatch.
Which streaming service has them?
@@ryanamendt8363 I watch it on Paramount+.
@@SteveShives 👍
Thank you for keeping up with this macgyver series! It’s my favorite television show and no one ever talks about it I feel like! Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Since you are a huge MacGyver enthusiast: Any thoughts on the new MacGyver show from 2016 ?
I love MacGyver so much. Thank you for reminding me of that piece of my childhood.
Just got married and I come back to some fresh MacGyver content. Thanks for the wedding gift!
Forensic sculpture is a clever idea. I first saw it used on Quincy, ME in late '70s.
Edit: A real science but I've seen it 3 times in fiction.
"Penny's birthday was on Halloween, isn't that neat? My wedding anniversary was on Halloween and now I'm divorced..."
The one thing Mac couldn't fix...
I love the MacGyver reviews!
Maybe Jack thought it was safe to jokingly flirt, as long as he knew the answer would always be no, and nothing would come of it.
Macgyver was my favorite show as a kid... maybe I should try a rewatch sometime.
Great vid mate
There should be music boxes that play contemporary music.
Learning in a non-comedy video that Steve really does live in his grandparents’ old house makes the music box bit even funnier than it already was
I feel like this would be the kind of moment I would see in a Family Guy aside. But I'm also thinking about what a modernized, Progressive MacGyver would look like, and I'm intrigued.
There is a recent modernized but not necessarily progressive McGyver that aired (checks dates 2016-2021). Although my sense having watched like two episodes is it had a much different style and ethos than the original very much a typical action adventure show of the last 10 years vibe.
Michael Westen, the main character of Burn Notice has some MacGyver-like characteristics and I’ve seen fans compare them. The two shows underlying elements are different, of course, but I really enjoyed the combo of the main group being inventive on the fly while using their special skills to help ordinary folk that BN did so well.
Nah Amelia Earhart died on a tropical island and her corpse was torn apart by coconut crabs...
👌👍✌
As The Simpsons said
"Thank you, MacGuyer!"
"Don't thank me; thank the Moon's gravitational pull."
Came for the Star Trek content, stayed for the MacGyver content. ;)
Who drugged Penny?
Never quite sure of that. I assumed it was the sheriff since he made the coffee but was never clear why.
The 80s were weird
Thanks
"Local Lead Swilling Lunatic", what an epitaph.
Who the fuck is Jack Tripper?
You might remember him as the dad on 8 Simple Rules.
The main character of 3's Company a 80's sitcom that I only really remember for the theme song "Come knock on our door..." Played by John Ritter.
I think the premise is that Jack is a straight guy pretending to be gay so that he can co-rent a place where two beautiful woman are living without the landlord (played by Don Knotts?) condemning them and refusing to rent because of the scandal of such a situation? I don't think I ever watched a whole episode, so most of Steve's reference meant nothing to me.
Sitcom "Three's Company"
"I mean, Norman Bates did some other stuff that was worse, but that doesn't make the peeping OK!" God, I love your work, Steve. 😂
