- Here's a video specifically focusing on the Dover lantern. For those of you who ever wanted to see the back of one of these things and see how they work, here you go. In reality, all this lantern is made up is four incandescent light bulbs (believe I have seen up to eight on other lanterns) and a chime box consisting of a circuit board and speaker. The rest is just a plastic shell with a few screws. Actually surprisingly cheap. Nice thing is that unlike brand new elevator parts, most of which are solid state, these old Dover parts are completely conventional. All you need is a power source and you're ready to go.
This video just shows what the back side looks like, how it works, and testing it off of 24 volts DC.
CVE9120 got several of these lanterns from the famous modernized DOVIS elevator, but he hasn't ever made a video of them, at least not yet.
Those 2 variations of the chime are ones that I have seen and honestly I could watch this all day long.
I have seen those lanterns before some have broken covers where they don’t stay in place
I always wonder how the Dover Impulses bells ring twice whenever a down button is pushed. Obviously when the door opens and the up button is pushed, I believe there's a wire located somewhere that touches whatever lights up the lantern, making the bell ring. But exactly how does the down lantern light up twice?
The elevator controller basically turns it on, off, then on again.
I’ve seen them do 3 times for down obviously they aren’t supposed to
Up Should Be Green and Down Should Be Red
Awesome!
Very cool up and down lanterns
I have one of these too. Is there any way to turn the chime louder/quieter?
You mean you have an Impulse lantern? Because it really does depend on the kind. I have not yet figured out a way to adjust the volume on it. I'm sure it can be done, but I don't see any immediate method of doing it. I would imagine the chime box would have to be cut open somehow, since I don't see see any way to easily take it apart.
I have an exterior impulse lantern. If you look closely, at least on mine, the chime box has two little clips that open up the side to take the circuit board out. I might not have enough power, causing it to be quieter.
How many volts are you puttin' into it?
24
Hmm, that should be plenty. If it's quiet, I would assume either it's set quiet, or it's on its way out. I've heard some of these bells pretty darn quiet, so I would assume it's a setting that would have to be changed.
what happen to the building that has the number 2000?
This reminds me of an old Simplex 2901+2903 horn/plate combo

Fire alarms; SERIOUSLY?????
You should do something like that on a Schindler 330A or Schindler HT.
The chime sounds like the older dodge and chrysler chime
Man I want one of those.
+Steven Vilagi You never know; maybe one will pop up on eBay someday!
Imagine using one of those as a car turn signal. You'd look badass.
Good point, haha.
If you actually do that, I hope you show it on camera. ;-)
Having a chime as your turn signal oh god this would be crazy but I would love it. Dover Impulse was a huge part of my childhood
How do you find these
do dover chime lanterns have higher pitch?
Pretty neat! That industrial facility where I salvaged a lot of my alarms from had an elevator and is currently still standing. I'm going to try to get back in contact with the building owner soon for some additional signage, and could ask about the elevator parts as well. I've really got no interest in elevators myself, but I could pass them along to you if you if I received them. Interested?
+kcin556 Well I'd really appreciate that! Thank you so much for the offer.
+msj191961 I looked back at some old pictures and videos of the place I have and it appears the elevator was manufactured by Schindler. Two floors, installed sometime around 1994. I still haven't heard anything back from the building owner yet, so I may take a drive to the site to see what's going on sometime soon.
+kcin556 Okay, I really appreciate that! Absolutely no hurry. I'm trying to think of something I could give you in exchange for any parts. Based on the pictures, what kind of buttons does it have? Square or round?
+msj191961 The buttons are square. I'm going to upload and share the video I have of it privately with you.
+kcin556 Sounds like MT fixtures, in that case. Sounds good, thanks. I'll be watching for it.
I want that so bad
+RCA tablet reviews by RCA morash Andrew victor rca Keep checking eBay. Maybe one will pop up, and keep your eyes out for local building demolitions or elevator modernizations!

try to touch the u and d wires to the red
How do you make the Dover Impulse chimes do different pitches msj191961?
I really don't know if the pitch was adjustable on these units, except by the factory. I can't figure out how to get the plastic shell apart to access the circuit board, but if I can, I'll let you know.
They aren't. It's a matter of how they're built.
Hey so I live in Wheaton and I recently acquired a CB. You have one?
+MattNovelli I do.
If you ever want to have a CB conversation, let me know!
are these led bulbs?
NO, THEY ARE INCANDESENTS
