    I'm right there with you about the initial vibe of the projects. I had to teach myself three things a little after getting into this hobby:
    1.) Frustration fractures focus.
    2.) Tie-dye is chaotic creativity.
    3.) When all else fails, keep a discount table on hand for festivals and yard sales.
    Despite the setback with the Navy, it still turned out quite nice.

    The thing I L❤VE about this shirt is how it reminds me of looking through a Fresnel lens at some of old lighthouses at the beach. It’s upside down for a sunset but that’s what I see. A sunset, at the beach, through a Fresnel lens. Magnificent! I have tied my shirt…I’m ready to dye it. I’m not sure what colors to use.
    Thank you for sharing your art and for taking the time to teach it. You are a gift!

      You’re right. When I come back I’m going to be less hard on myself. This shirt frustrated me to no end. I don’t enjoy making them but my dear friend wanted it for her son. So, I had to do it.

    This is one of my favorite wig wags I've seen on youtube. You shouldn't get too down on yourself for imperfections. I'm an artist myself: musician, sculptor (wood and metal), painter, charcoal sketch. One thing I've come to learn over the years despite my own need for perfection is that the mistakes and imperfections made along the way can often lead to a different and even more beautiful result than I initially imagined myself. Whether by accepting the mistake or through the path of fixing it. And once I realized that and accepted it, the less stressful my life has become and has made my own art better and more fulfilling in the long run. So embrace your "mistakes" as they can often lead the way to better places. Like this shirt. It's beautiful. Maybe even better than your original idea. A true work of art, shimmering fire and water. Hope this helps you like it did for me.

    Even though it’s not a wigwag it a great shirt. The colors look nice together. It’s like blue sun rays shooting out of the power source center. It’s really cool.

    I really kinda love this shirt.
    I generally don’t care for the super perfect wigwags… I GREATLY admire the patience & skill, but usually they’re a little too much for my personal tastes (if that makes sense).
    I like the “organic” feel of this (that’s a nice way to say it LOL) but it still has the wigwag vibe.
    Have fun tie-dying… that’s the whole point!!!
    Also Little Caesar’s breadsticks are amazing.

      I totally understand what you’re saying. I completely appreciate the hard work that the “guys” put into all those amazing shirts but they aren’t my personal style. I’m into the more feminine patterns and fabrics. I made this one for a young boy. Pretty ice dye didn’t seem fitting. 😉❤️🌈

    I have often wondered how long it takes a person to fold in comparison to me. Just watching this and listening to everything that you have said has sometimes been my complete experience with tie-dye. Especially wigwag. I know you are frustrated, but it eased my mind to know thatPeople like you, that I so enjoy watching and so respect, have the same troubles. I think I have learned more about just the time and effort that goes into Tie dying than I have before. Thank you so much for just explaining some of the little things that I often wondered only applied to me ha ha ha.

    Hi Steph, I totally agree about the energy you have when you are creating art. If you have bad energy, your art will show it. I haven't come close to mastering the wig wag, but I appreciate your tip to start tying at the outer ring. I think that is going to greatly improve my dye flow and penetration. Thanks, as always, for your detailed tutorial!

    i do no hot water rinses and have had zero problems. really helps with shrinkage.

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  25 дней назад +1

      First off, I want to shrink my shirts. I don’t want it to happen to my customers when they wash their shirt at home. Also, I follow the dye company’s instructions and they say to prewash in hot and final wash in hot. Many big time dyers boil their shirts. So I will say, good for you and continue to make your projects in the way that works best for you. If cold is how you prefer to go about it, cold it is. 😄

    Steph, I have "centered" 5 or 6 at a time, put them in individual Walmart bags, and pop them in the freezer! That way I got the least favorite task of my project out of the way and then I can "play with my dye" without trepidations! Looks great to me!

    You did an amazing job on this one. Wig wags can be a challenge for sure. I am mostly an ice dyer and I have done this pattern with the ice dye. I like the results with ice and liquid but you definitely get more vibrancy out of the liquid. Maybe when I am feeling like mixing up some dyes I will try this pattern with the liquid dye. Thank you for sharing, I love your commentary! 😀☮🥰

    When you were talking about how daunting pleating is I completely related. Its such an arduous task but it gives such amazing results we can’t help but continue doing it 😂. Like you I’m a bit of a perfectionist also but I’ve learned with tie dyeing part of the fun and beauty of it is that you don’t honestly know what you’re going to get regardless of how perfect your technique is so now I do my dyeing Wabi Sabi style. I still step away for awhile when necessary but I’m much more zen about it. I think the shirt turned out fantastic…kind of reminded me of Spider-Man or Marvel which is always awesome IMO yeah?

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 года назад

      Yeah, pleating is not fun! I know some people have said they really enjoy it. I’m definitely not one of them. I’ve had to step away from projects numerous times. What I’ve learned with these is not to start them when I’m tired. I can totally see the Spider-Man vibes. Thanks for tuning in! ❤️🌈

    Amazing looking shirt, Steph, I love it. It's funny sometimes when you think you've bombed at a project but then it turns out great. I do that, too. Sometimes I get like writers block and I can't get myself to do an order or I hate the colors someone wants and I drag my feet getting it done. Hate it. You have to be in the mood. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your next video. Have a wonderful weekend.

    That actually looks really cool!! And I also love the crazy bread from little cesars!! We don't have many here in the NYC area and they're not that popular amongst the natives because of all the Italian pizzarias and restaurants they have there too.. but I tried them for the first time about a year ago because my friends from the west coast and Florida were shocked I never had, and I love them, and that cheesy pizza 🍕 crust is delicious!! I just found out that there's a Lil Cesar's by my job, so I go there on lunch sometimes!! 💖

    So I have found it a lot easier to plete from the small half circle on. It makes it a lot easier for me. When I start at the big one it is harder to plate the small one. Just try it one time see if it makes it easier.

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  Год назад

      I’ll try. Steven J taught me to start all the way out to keep the pleats small for saturation ease. I’ve gotten kinda stuck in my ways. ☺️❤️🌈

    I love wigwags when I am working with a big piece of fabric or if someone was doing a tapestry (it's much easier to pleat...and I am not the best at pleating). I would think it is much harder to do on a t-shirt. Wigwags and Mandalas are my favorite on big pieces of fabric. I love the glow from the yellow and light blue. I was kinda surprised you didn't mark your lines on the back and the front. Also...old dye isn't going to hit like new dye, so I knew the Navy wasn't going to be that bad. Don't start complicated folds at the end of your day!!! What makes me want to scream is when I am doing one of these the folds in the middle pop up because I have them too tight I guess. That's why I use 2 Popsicle or chopsticks sticks with rubber bands on each end holding them together. You also dont have to do as much wrapping. I love sushi and dont love eating with chopsticks so I have a ton of them here, and I dont know why, but the dye doesn't seem to wick up chopsticks.

    I watch a lot of wigwag tutorial videos and some start at the smallest marker line and work out from there and it seems to be easier to get the small pleats set before the big pleats are set. You are starting from the largest marker line and have a hard time setting the smaller pleats. Have you tried starting from the smallest marker line? Am I wrong in thinking it's easier?

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  6 месяцев назад +1

      There is always a method for my madness. Everyone does what works best for them. The trick to this pattern is to have small/short pleats for dye saturation. I recommend you try it both ways and see what creates the shortest pleats at the outer edge for you. If I start at the center and work out to the edge the pleat becomes very tall. That is undesirable for a wig wag. ♥️🌈

    I have started a shirts with an idea in mind but no matter what I do the shirt fights me. I've come to believe that when thay happens the shirt is meant for some thing else so I have stopped fighting the shirt and just start over with a new deaign. Every time 've forced it to do what I wanted it to it doesnt turn out and I'm just disappointed with the entire project. They turn out so much better and I have fun and love the results when I listen to what the shirt wants rather than force it. Sounds coo coo crazy but that's been myexperience.
