Hello Hiram! i love your videos. I have absolutely same problem with 5r55e after rebuild...NEW: ohkt, bands, od planet (new), od sprag, clutches, servos,epc oem, TC, ISS. I build that 5r55w/s/e trannies many times...i know how to adjust bands, never had an issues with that....And right now don't have any idea what to do🤦♂️ And so much brass material in oil, like gold shining... I put shift kit transgo during rebuild, but after i droped VB, took off updates from VB...And nothing changed...
Yes they are bad about worn out valve bodies. There are some after market valves to repair them. I have seen a few that I had to just replace the entire valve body with a reman to get it right. What you see in this video is a list of common failures. Great job Hiram.

Hiram- I have an 01 explorer 4.0 4x4 with 176k and i replaced the trans last yr. Since then no problems, shifts perfectly until it started to slip this morning and i let off the gas and gave it gas again and it jumped into the next gear. When i came to a stop and took off again, it did it again and od off light is flashing.
Really enjoy the videos, best I have found so far. I have a 98 Ford Explorer with the 4R55 AT in it. The OD light has begun to flash and it will not shift in to overdrive. The 4x4 low and high dash lights will flash. Could this be a broken band or a wore out servo bore?

Hello again Hiram. I rebuilt the 5R55E transmission for the 2001 Ranger RWD 4.0L. It works well but there is a problem with shifting. I have to manually shift or the OD light will start blinking. It feels like it is not going into first gear. I've had no choice but to use it since rebuilding it so I can earn a living. I have pulled some heavy loads with the truck since the rebuild and it pulls fine without issue if I manually shift it. Can you give me some direction as to what might be causing it to have to be shifted manually. Like I said, it seems as though first gear is not engaging or not fully engaging, Twice over the past two or three weeks it was if it went into neutral even though it was in second gear,.When it did that I was taking off from a stop and turning while accelerating, and it was as if it went into neutral. I assume it has to do with what ever is causing me to have to manually shift it... Thanks Hiram I really appreciate your guidance and knowledge with this ranger transmission. Steve.

Hi Hiram, been a long time viewer of your videos, but finally came up on a problem I can't figure out. A friend has a 1998 Ford Ranger 4.0 with the 5R55E. 1st, 2nd and 3rd all shift fine, but just recently the truck suddenly lost 4th. We adjusted both bands to spec, but it made no difference. If you drive the truck over 40 MPH or so, after a few minutes the O/D light will start blinking and the truck will go into limp mode. At this point, 5th starts working fine again, but 4th does not. If you come to a stop with the O/D light blinking, it will shift hard from 1st through 3rd, then it will keep accelerating in 3rd and eventually shift hard into 5th, skipping right over direct. Any idea what is wrong? Because if my thinking is correct, you need direct to work, for 5th to work in the 5R55E, so I'm not sure why 4th doesn't work, but 5th does. Maybe a valvebody or solenoid problem?
***** Hi, we did somse more testing with a better scan tool and came up with P0734 and P0735. Additionally we found if you absolutely floored it in reverse, it does slip some. Guessing the direct clutch assembly is cooked?

Never worked on am auto trans before. I usually just have someone else do it. Now I'm in with booth feet. It,s coming along fine. Right now I have a question on the "converter support shaft sealing ring. The transtec kit has an update on this sealing ring. They sent a solid grey ring. They say it replaces a yellow plastic ring. Do you know about this change? The change was on 2003. Mine is 1997. Is this change meant for my 97 as we'll? My sealing ring is brown. ?
hola Hiram, es normal que en el Sun Gear no tenga los bushings que sí aparecen en los manuales ? por qué los eliminaron ? ... en tu video de despiece de la 4R44E y el de la 4R55E se ve que no tienen bushings. Saludos.
I hate to say it but all that transmission needed was a new valve body gasket, I've fixed several 100 that way,,,if it still Flair's on the 2-3 shift then it needs an epc solenoid,,,but it's wise to do the epc at the same time as the gasket,,the reason it didn't have second and not set a code is because they 4.0 liter sohc skips 2nd at light throttle and commands 2nd at or near 3/4 and more throttle,,also all 4r and 5r models from 97 up have the oss sensor not just the 5r55e, also the difference between a 44e and 55e is the planets,,44e uses 3 and 4 pinion planets and the 55e uses 6 pinion/gear planets

On the first start, the car is in a normal temperature, it works fine, and after a distance, the transmission heats up and shows these codes P0733 / P0732. The transmission does not perform the gears and gets stuck in the fifth gear only when the car warms up and when it is cold does it work well? of help please

Hi hiram, back again with more information. We hooked up a pressure gauge to the EPC port. Idle in drive pressure is 35 PSI, idle reverse is 65 PSI. Reverse wide open throttle is 120 PSI. Manual 2 and Manual 1 are 35 psi idle, and 110 psi wide open. However, drive wide open throttle only hits about 55-60 PSI EPC at 3,000 RPM, then it starts to drop to around 45-50 PSI as the RPM increases. Any ideas?
Hi Hiram, I have an Explorer with a 5r55e in the shop for repair appears to have no overdrive and the O/D light then flashes. Once switched off she is good to go but then the same thing happens all other gears are good, do you have any ideas please. Alan
Hello Hiram, Excellent Video - Thank you, I know it helps a lot of people including me. I wonder how many miles were on that tranny in the video ? My Daughters truck has a 5R55E in a '97 Explorer (151k miles) that just failed, 1st and 2nd ok, then won't shift into 3rd or OD (misses the shift - high rpms), and Reverse seemed to just make a little turbo like sound for 10 seconds or so, then worked properly. I'm a semi-handicapped engineer and backyard mechanic but, no transmission experience and I respect your knowledge - I've taken it to 3 local shops, different storys from each - like I'm an idiot - and the only detail they want to discuss is price. I would even pay for your consult, she supports us with her job and needs this vehicle, I'm hoping I might be able to get a few more miles out of it by repairing it myself without removing it from the truck, just not sure how tell if 'hard parts' might be damaged which would make my attempts to repair gaskets and soft parts a waste of my time/money/hope. I know no one has a crystal ball, but no one seems knowledgeable enough to even tell me how to make an educated assessment -on the vehicle-. Il get the codes if any and post them up. The fluid does not look burned but smells like burnt plastic instead of burnt trans fluid. And idea if maybe this trans is cooked or something else?

Hello Hiram, Have a question. I have a 1995 Ford E350 van. When you put it into gear, or sometimes when coming to a stop, the van will die. It fills like what a standard transmission would do, if failing to apply the clutch. No check engine lights. Could it possibly be the Torque Converter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Readjust the bands. Torque to 72in.lbs. then back off 1-1/2 turns. If you got internet green fluffy bands you'll need to do this a few times until they get broken in. I hate those, they're trash.
Hi Hiram. I've been learning a lot from your videos on the 4R44e/5R55E. I know that the 5R55E has a speed sensor on top of the case at the rear. However mine has one just behind the bell housing also. I have 2 speed sensors. The tranny is out of 1997 4x4 ranger. Is this weird?. One more thing, the brass cap on the overdrive spray came off like the one in the video but there is no damage to the race. Is it OK to just put in a new spray? I can run my nail over the surface of the race and not feel anything. Smooth like new.
i recently bought another 2010 genesis coupe 2.0 for only 2,800$. it had 1 code for cylinder 3 misfire, i replaced all spark plugs and fixed the problem. when i scanned the car again it said p0733 gear 3 ratio incorrect. and it goes into a limp mode sometimes. my question is should i change the transmission fluid, get the transmission repaired or buy a slightly used transmission. thanks in advance
Hola Hiram tengo unas preguntas espero que puedas responder gracias. un amigo tenia fugas de fluido de transmission 5R55E en su 2000 explorer dejo de caminar fuy a verla y le puse fluido estaba seca una vez que le puse volvio a caminar pero como que se jalaba cuando cambiaba a la reversa o al drive despues de un rato caminaba algo normal, pero tambien se escuchaba muy ruidosa la transmission. pienso q talvez es el torque converter. Dias despues le cambie el filtro de trans, 2 gaskets que lleva a donde van solenoide pack y le puse nuevo aceite mercon V y quise mover la palanacas de velocidades se puso dura logre destrabarla pero van ya no se movio la camioneta crees que hice algo mal?
It monitors the rotational speed of the internal components via the speed senors one of which he pointed out to us at the rear of the 5R55E. When the rotation is faster or slower of the components between the sensors the control module will set a code and turn the light on. I think it also has to see the same fault three consecutive times in a row as well. I've been out of the shop for years and a bit rusty but think this is close for Ford maybe someone else will set it straight if not.

Hello. I have a 1998 ford ranger RWD 2X4 4.0L. and I can not get the truck into reverse. All the other gears drive fine, but no reverse. Would i be able to rebuild the transmission or would I be better off buying a used one?
Hiram I have a 2000 ford explorer. When it is in The D for drive, it only revs. I have to put it in the 2nd to go, when i'm rolling it can be dropped into D and it accelerates perffect. When i stop i have to put it back in 2nd. I dont know what damage driving my car like this is doing. I seen some videos on fixing the gasket and one video about aftermarket servos with o rings i can place in it. Im thinking about doing that. What would u suggest is wrong wit my suv and what should i do? I am considering a 1200 mile trip on the highway and i would like suggestions about how to proceed. also it was making a grinding clunking noise when i would reverse till i had the transmission fluid an filter changed.
Vaso De varro one of the gears was broken. can replace the one gear but it will break again. the whole set needs to be replaced with a aftermarket gear set that is engineered better than the ford factory manufactured gear set which is designed faulty

I bought the truck with the transmission already in it the guy never said anything about the transmission being remanufactured I found the tag looking under the truck seeing if possible there was a wire lose or broken and came across it, is there anyway to trace the transmission and see if it has a Warranty still on it?
+Hiram Gutierrez would it be damaged if it only doesn't have driving for about 35 to 40 minutes before it starts acting up, up until that point it shifts perfect you can barely even feel it shift at all
P0730 on a 2002 Mercedes Benz E320 4 matic . ....... trying to figure out whats wrong . Only 1st gear works . When its going into 2nd it goes on limp mode.

I got P0733 and P0734. Fluid is not black and does not smell like its burnt but it does smell like burnt plastic (maybe wiring or solenoid?)

hey I have a 2004 ford ranger the od light blinks and no od but if you take and push the od so the light od light is on the 1 through 3 gears are perfect but other wise rough shifting ,mechanic said incorrect gear ration and needed to be rebuilt ,have any suggestions

Have a question.
I have a 1995 Ford E350 van. When you put it into gear, or sometimes when coming to a stop, the van will die. It fills like what a standard transmission would do, if failing to apply the clutch.
No check engine lights. Could it possibly be the Torque Converter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have such a problem. The transmission runs normally. After warming up it pops up P0733 3rd. Incorrect gear ratio.
What should i do ?
Readjust the bands. Torque to 72in.lbs. then back off 1-1/2 turns.
If you got internet green fluffy bands you'll need to do this a few times until they get broken in.
I hate those, they're trash.
Hi Hiram. I've been learning a lot from your videos on the 4R44e/5R55E. I know that the 5R55E has a speed sensor on top of the case at the rear. However mine has one just behind the bell housing also. I have 2 speed sensors. The tranny is out of 1997 4x4 ranger. Is this weird?. One more thing, the brass cap on the overdrive spray came off like the one in the video but there is no damage to the race. Is it OK to just put in a new spray? I can run my nail over the surface of the race and not feel anything. Smooth like new.
i recently bought another 2010 genesis coupe 2.0 for only 2,800$. it had 1 code for cylinder 3 misfire, i replaced all spark plugs and fixed the problem. when i scanned the car again it said p0733 gear 3 ratio incorrect. and it goes into a limp mode sometimes. my question is should i change the transmission fluid, get the transmission repaired or buy a slightly used transmission. thanks in advance

un amigo tenia fugas de fluido de transmission 5R55E en su 2000 explorer dejo de caminar fuy a verla y le puse fluido estaba seca una vez que le puse volvio a caminar pero como que se jalaba cuando cambiaba a la reversa o al drive despues de un rato caminaba algo normal, pero tambien se escuchaba muy ruidosa la transmission. pienso q talvez es el torque converter.
Dias despues le cambie el filtro de trans, 2 gaskets que lleva a donde van solenoide pack y le puse nuevo aceite mercon V y quise mover la palanacas de velocidades se puso dura logre destrabarla pero van ya no se movio la camioneta
crees que hice algo mal?

It monitors the rotational speed of the internal components via the speed senors one of which he pointed out to us at the rear of the 5R55E.
When the rotation is faster or slower of the components between the sensors the control module will set a code and turn the light on. I think it also has to see the same fault three consecutive times in a row as well. I've been out of the shop for years and a bit rusty but think this is close for Ford maybe someone else will set it straight if not.

Me podrias decir por que el shafth output que entra en la turbina se puso bien dura y no quiere salir ni entrar y si la turbina no entra mas no entra el motor

Hiram I have a 2000 ford explorer. When it is in The D for drive, it only revs. I have to put it in the 2nd to go, when i'm rolling it can be dropped into D and it accelerates perffect. When i stop i have to put it back in 2nd. I dont know what damage driving my car like this is doing. I seen some videos on fixing the gasket and one video about aftermarket servos with o rings i can place in it. Im thinking about doing that. What would u suggest is wrong wit my suv and what should i do? I am considering a 1200 mile trip on the highway and i would like suggestions about how to proceed. also it was making a grinding clunking noise when i would reverse till i had the transmission fluid an filter changed.

Vaso De varro one of the gears was broken. can replace the one gear but it will break again. the whole set needs to be replaced with a aftermarket gear set that is engineered better than the ford factory manufactured gear set which is designed faulty

could you please help me with my transmission problem it doesn't shift right after driving about a hour or more it goes into neutral instead of shifting to the next gear it's throwing three codes P0782, P0733, and P0732

I bought the truck with the transmission already in it the guy never said anything about the transmission being remanufactured I found the tag looking under the truck seeing if possible there was a wire lose or broken and came across it, is there anyway to trace the transmission and see if it has a Warranty still on it?
+Hiram Gutierrez would it be damaged if it only doesn't have driving for about 35 to 40 minutes before it starts acting up, up until that point it shifts perfect you can barely even feel it shift at all
P0730 on a 2002 Mercedes Benz E320 4 matic . ....... trying to figure out whats wrong . Only 1st gear works . When its going into 2nd it goes on limp mode.
