I'll be grinning all day over that, so many funny comments and funny sights and just good fun. Thanks, guys, and really, Matt would make a great tour guide, getting everybody to the sights faster by teaching them the bike-share tuck.
Matt wins this challenge on selfie quality sorry si & dan but i think their should be another factor here, Cost of bike rental, cost of bus/rail fares & the HUGE cost of that taxi lol great videos guys the channel has hours of great videos :D
I used to be really sneer at the Hire Bikes before I tried them, considering myself a 'real roadie', but actually they're fantastic. They're not unbearably slow, and despite being heavy, London doesn't have any hills in the tourist sections, so it's not a big deal. It's just so great being able to pick up a bike from anywhere, and not worry about it getting stolen or anything. And £2 for a day's travel outclasses any other option for getting around the centre. Also, the Embankment tracks are lush. Big Ben to Tower of London without a whiff of traffic, and super direct. London's doing a lot right in terms of cycling. It's got a long way to go, but it's moving in an exciting direction.
Great video. Here in Fort Worth, I find that I am more likely to visit the tourist sites by bicycle than I am by car or public transportation. Also, it allows me to see things that I wouldn't want to take the time for stop for when I'm using some other form of transportation.
My first sightseeing in London was on a Boris bike and I loved it. I tell everyone that the best way to see any city is by bike. It is a little difficult, however, when you don't know where you're going. Navigation is tough. Would be really nice if the Boris bikes had a way to hold a smart phone or something. I did Copenhagen by bike and there were city bikes there with a built in navigation system. Would be nice to have that in London.
Cycling through a city or landscape provides the perfect pacing as well: walking: too slow and you don't get anywhere, by car: too fast, and if you see something nice, hard to stop and take closer look. Cycling: just perfect!
I love when you guys make videos like this. Thank you so much!! Absolutely entertaining! It humanizes you all and enriches your personalities so much more! . :D Thank you for all that you do! I have learned so much from you all.
I commute to work at tower hill, race occasionally at the velodrome, use the embankment cycle route to add some extra distance to my commute home when the weather is good. Cycling around London is an amazing way to see the city, what you guys saw as tourists is what I see every day just because I can.
Great Video! But there is one thing, why the bike ist not my choice for London: as a German I'm used to drive on the right side. I'd have died a thousand times trying to cross this city by bike.
It's true. I've cycled through quite a few large cities as a tourist. The best way for to get the most out of a trip for sure. You see a lot more and experience it differently, and you quickly learn the layout of the city. Success!
This is literally perfect!!!! My friends and I travelled for three weeks through some popular USA cities and all we did was walk and bike, and we got some great exercise and great views, and we always beat the bus.
My wife and I just arrived home from a trip to London. What great weather we had... I saw the bikes and I do really look forward to using them the next time I'm in town.
Absolutely love this type of content, very like the good old top gear as people were saying. Perhaps every second Sunday you could upload a video like this? General Top Gear-esque stuff ;-)
Dan's hair blocks the view in his selfies, Si runs like Chris Froome with one hobbled leg, but Matt really won with the awesome smile and genuine enthusiasm in all his images.
I spent 5 days on a Boris Bike pedaling from Fitzrovia to the Royal Society of Chemistry in April. Not very nimble but great fun - got all around Hyde Park and Regent's Park as well.
West London to Stratford...via Hyde Park > Bucks Palace > Embankment > Tower of London...you literally rode my route home from work every day! Nice one chaps. Except you missed out the sights of CS2 (Cycle Superhighway 2 for non-Londoners) - Whitechapel High St > Mile End Station > Bow Flyover to name but a few...
Great video, and proof that the best way to see London is with someone who knows their way round like Matt obviously does. Could you give an indication of the relative costs of each mode of transport, and maybe follow up with a short film of using the 'Boris Bikes'?
Dan(clarkson) Simon(may) Matt(Hammond), Where is Lasty(stig).more like this and you will have your own show, you guys could make arable farming interesting👌
Here in Brazil, in São Paulo, made a test of bicycle, bus, car, bike and running to find out what the best way to offset a distance of 10 km. The results showed that the bike arrived in 18 minutes, the motorcycle in 36 minutes and was running in 48 minutes after 1 hour came the bus and finally the car. Completing the bicycle as urban transport efficiency!
Taking in the sights by bike just looks happier than stressing about fares and schedules doesn't it? In my wee bit of traveling around the US I rode bike share and a friend's borrowed bike around Denver and Chicago, respectively, and in both cases it was an awesome way to get to know a city. Set your own pace, no parking worries, and cheap too.
You don't need to stress about fares. In London on public transport you can use an Oyster card or a credit/debit card with a chip in it after 9.30am then your fare is capped for the day until 4.30am the next morning. This means you can use buses, tubes, trains, the DLR and London overground within the London fare zones.
If you want to see London on a bicycle. There are a couple of companies that organised sightseeing tours by bicycle. Google them to find out where they are and enjoy.
I think the tube would be just as good as a bike, they are making it look slow, but it’s actually ideal. Having said that, at least with a bike you get to see everything and you are not underground.
Thanks! Love the this vid, very useful info and entertaining! However, you missed one metric: "cost per pic?". I'm bias for the bike; but, it would be funny to report the total cost for the taxi ride vs the total cost of the public trans vs day rate for a bike rental. Missed an opportunity for one final joke: cost per picture (On that bomb shell... TopGear)
I think based on the quality of selfies alone Matt has it in the bag
TOP GEAR has nothing on you mates! Love it!
More and more you guys are becoming the biker friendly version of Top Gear
is that a bad thing?
Not at all, loved that show too
agreed
Only if it's the Top Gear after Clarkson, May and Hammond left the show.
so when the show shot itself in the foot?
I'll be grinning all day over that, so many funny comments and funny sights and just good fun. Thanks, guys, and really, Matt would make a great tour guide, getting everybody to the sights faster by teaching them the bike-share tuck.
Legends say that Dan had to sell his bike in order to pay the taxi
lol
is it his first time on a London/UK taxi? I heard it's free.
"hop in love"
i knew i heard that somewhere before. :D
A U hahahahahaha it's the most expensive thing ever
Dan has a OnePlus 3.You got my respect sir.
Motorola FTW!
That's what I noticed too. The selfies don't do it justice though.
Very jealous. I wonder if they're easier to get in the UK.
No invite system anymore. Just head to oneplus.net to get yours.
I got the 6T and it's very nice
One of my all time favorite GCN videos, London by bike looks awesome.
That awkward moment when Dan entered a "fake taxi" taxi. Opps!
one of the most entertaining gcn video's ever made
Matt wins this challenge on selfie quality sorry si & dan but i think their should be another factor here, Cost of bike rental, cost of bus/rail fares & the HUGE cost of that taxi lol great videos guys the channel has hours of great videos :D
Damn Matt, back at it again with the cargo shorts
We're going to stage an intervention
I'm interested to hear the costs of each transport method.
My guess the bike was the least expensive, but maybe the bus. Certainly the bike was much more enjoyable.
Any idea what rucksack Matt had in this video guys
I think these challenge videos are my favourite, remind me of Top Gear, but on bikes.
I used to be really sneer at the Hire Bikes before I tried them, considering myself a 'real roadie', but actually they're fantastic. First visit to London and taking a bicycle tour this afternoon entirely because of this video! Thanks guys!!!
Need more these fields trip video

I know these aren't as easy to organise and do compared to "standard" videos. But like your commuter challenge video, more of these! Pretty please.
My first sightseeing in London was on a Boris bike and I loved it. I tell everyone that the best way to see any city is by bike. this was awesome, so much better than the race from Bristol to bath via different methods and bikes, when Dan was grumpy and clearly on his period
I commute to work at tower hill, race occasionally at the velodrome, use the embankment cycle route to add some extra distance to my commute home when the weather is good. Bicycle ftw! London looks gorgeous! You guys are making me want to fly there!
Can we please have a video of Matt's teaching how to take selfies?
Dan's selfies are hilarious. Especially big ben
Do more of these challenges. Luv to watch them
This has just become my favorite episode! You guys bring laughter to my world and i appreciate it very much! keep it up guys!
Wonder what kind of taxi fare dan racked up too!
yep, should be few hundreds, easily
Nah - it was nowhere near that. Can't remember exactly what it was....
This is literally perfect!!!! My friends and I travelled for three weeks through some popular USA cities and all we did was walk and bike, and we got some great exercise and great views, and we always beat the bus.
IMO, the most entertaining GCN video in quite some time. Well done lads.
My wife and I just arrived home from a trip to London. What great weather we had... I saw the bikes and I do really look forward to using them the next time I'm in town.
I'm loving these challenge videos guys! a bit like top gear but with your own sense of humour
Dan's taking some fashion cues from Si at 5:22.
Another outstanding, refreshingly enjoyable and creative show.GCN, what cycling programs should be!!
hey GCN could you do a pro bike reviwe on that bike?
My favorite GCN video yet!
Please do more of these 'Top Gear' style tests / challenges I love them
My fav GCN video of all time!
Agreed! The best way around ANY city is by bike!
We just got back from Paris where we used the Velib bikes. They were our favorite part of the trip and saw much of the city! Best way to see the city!
Matt can't clip in pedals, but is the king of the selfies... Interesting skills for a GCN-presenter. But that's why we love you...;)
Also, that reminds me of Top Gear's race across London. That was a classic. Good job, lads!
That's a great video!! Loved the way you all get around the city..
Absolutely love this type of content, very like the good old top gear as people were saying. Perhaps every second Sunday you could upload a video like this? General Top Gear-esque stuff ;-)
You guys are great. Thanks for the vid! I can vouch that "By Bike" is the best for NYC travel as well.
My beautiful sight seeing in London involved walking... Lots, and lots of walking.
Haha Dan playing Pokemon at the end! Good video!
Beautiful sunny day you were lucky to have for this episode. ;)
A very entertaining video. All of the GCN presenters are great.
The Top Gear of cycling. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Looks like more challenges in the future?
Dan's hair blocks the view in his selfies, Si runs like Chris Froome with one hobbled leg, but Matt really won with the awesome smile and genuine enthusiasm in all his images.
Love your channel guys,very delightful
Guys, moree challenge video for next time! so good.
I spent 5 days on a Boris Bike pedaling from Fitzrovia to the Royal Society of Chemistry in April. Not very nimble but great fun - got all around Hyde Park and Regent's Park as well.

yeah I think that biking is the best way to take your time I truly interact with the city
At London, We (me and my wife) used a private company's hop on hop off tourist bus. Still, we walk A LOT! And we loved London!
Dan in the blue T shirt is the new Simon in pink 5:20
Brilliant! I look forward to doing that when I visit.
Great video, and proof that the best way to see London is with someone who knows their way round like Matt obviously does. Could you give an indication of the relative costs of each mode of transport, and maybe follow up with a short film of using the 'Boris Bikes'?
Matt's helmet straps are as retro as him... although the helmet looked insanely cool tbh
nice helmet... very nice helmet, especially for a boris bike
Love these kind of videos!
getting a picture of the Houses of Parliament - at night! - was brilliant
Awesome video guys :) Wish I could hit the like button multiple times
More of this please GCN...
Dan(clarkson) Simon(may) Matt(Hammond), Where is Lasty(stig).more like this and you will have your own show, you guys could make arable farming interesting👌
Dan, great choice of Mobile.... gotta love Oneplus
Amazing video and Dan's selfies are so funny

I like how the number of straps worn increases from left to right
I actually walked everywhere and saw heaps too. :) the big red buses are good if your short on time
Lookin tanned an LEAN cycling the bike MATT!!!!
GCN is top gear just with bikes hehe and i love it!!
That aero down tube on that bike is astonishing. Combined with the non-existant top tube, this bike is more aero than my old 80s racing bike...
Taking in the sights by bike just looks happier than stressing about fares and schedules doesn't it? One plus yeah
Best tourist video ever!
Loving the Mini-Chest-wig mics
The bike is ALWAYS the best way to see a place!

Fun seeing old age lads like Matt adopting the youngtsers' life style
GCN DOES TOP GEAR - Cue Jessica
Please do more of these! Reminds me of Top Gear (Jeremy, Richard, and James).
Dan is the only one of the three with a Oneplus 3, he just gained a ton of respect from me. #anythingbutaniphone
Nice aero position at 4:05
An oldie, but still a goodie. The one thing you didn't mention was the relative costs of your transport.
the how to's and science are usefull but the fun stuff is gcn at its best in my opinion
Dan was definitely trying to catch Pokemon when he showed up. 8:45
Dan, those selfies look like you are checking for junk in your nose!
you guys picked a beautiful day to do the video .
woohooo , thumb up for nice selfie s from Matt !
Thanks! Love the this vid, very useful info and entertaining! However, you missed one metric: "cost per pic?".

loved the attempt the cameraman made to make it look like the taxi was moving while they left him on the road LOL
Flashes of old Top Gear. Well done, boys.
Most enjoyable!
Not only do you see more on the bike but I bet it was a fair bit cheaper than the other options
GCN does Top Gear...Good stuff lads
6:51 Si's smile got me feeling weak in the knees...
