9/17/70: The night before Jimi Hendrix died, Ritchie Blackmore laid down an amazing guitar piece in Jon Lord's (Deep Purple) Gemini Suite: Guitar movement. Tremendous playing...and with an orchestra, to boot; way head of his time. Enjoy...how could you not? :)
About me:
Vincent Palamara was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in Sociology.
Although not even born when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Vince brings fresh eyes to an old case. In fact, Vince would go on to study the largely overlooked actions - and inactions - of the United States Secret Service in unprecedented detail, as well as achieving a world's record in the process, having interviewed and corresponded with over seventy former agents (the House Select Committee on Assassinations had the old record of 46 with a 6 million dollar budget and supboena power from Congress), not to mention many surviving family members, White House aides, and even quite a few Parkland and Bethesda medical witnesses for a corresponding project. The result was Survivor's Guilt; The Secret Service & The Failure To Protect The President, a very successful self-published book that sold thousands of copies in the 1990's before becoming a free online e-book in 2006.
In addition, the aforementioned corresponding project on the John F. Kennedy assassination medical evidence, JFK: The Medical Evidence Reference, Vince's second book, although almost an afterthought to Vince's main area of research, still sold hundreds of copies and was favorably mentioned in books by William Law, R. Andrew Kiel, James Fetzer, and even Vince Bugliosi. Like his first book, Vince's medical evidence tome became a free online e-book in 2006.
All told, Vince has been favorably mentioned in over 50 JFK and Secret Service related books to date (including two whole chapters in Murder in Dealey Plaza, The Secret Service: The Hidden History Of An Enigmatic Agency by Philip Melanson, and the Final Report of the Assassination Records Review Board, among many others), often at length, in the bibliographies, and in the Secret Service - and even medical evidence - areas of these works.
Vince has appeared on the History Channel, local cable access television, RUclips, radio, newspapers, print journals, at national conferences, and all over the internet. Also, Vince's original research materials, or copies of said materials, are stored in the National Archives (by request under Deed Of Gift by the ARRB), the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, Harvard University, the Assassination Archives and Research Center, and the Dallas Public Library.
Vince Palamara has become known (as he was dubbed by the History Channel in 2003) "the Secret Service expert." As former JFK Secret Service agent Joe Paolella proclaimed: "You seem to know a lot about the Secret Service, maybe even more than I do," while fellow JFK Secret Service agent Chuck Zboril stated: "You might be helpful to the official Secret Service historian who works out of Washington!" ritchie blackmore.:THE LORD OF THE STRINGS.the sound is only on his fingers.
i salute the greatest guitar god
This was the first of a kind performance. History maker. Jon Lord and his genius. How many rockers could write something this beautiful and a symphony. And get the Greatest Conductor of the Century and The Royal Philharmonic to perform their work. Enough said and Ritchie's tone and touch is mystical and beautiful. This is a master piece! No other way to look at this.
Thank you very much for sharing..Ritchie Blackmroe And Jon Lord are genius..especially when they are together....
Ritchie has the ability to lend himself to different styles he may not necessarily choose for himself. He didn't want to do the Concerto, but his was the best performance, and the Stormbringer album was alien to him yet he still delivered fine performances.
This is another example.
THE BEST GUITARIST EVER!!!AND BLACKMORES NIGHT IS FANTASTIC BAND!!!
Blackmore has the best tone.
That's what a guitar should sound like...
*****
Nobody can tell me that theres one rock guitarist who plays better then Ritchie Blackmore, nobody!
Il y a une différence entre gratter sur une guitar pour faire du bruit et jouer de la guitar pour une bonne musique.blackmore est le meilleur guitariste musicien. j'adore!
Браво!!!!! 555*******!!!!
2:00 these licks must be the most powerful sound i have ever heard... Blackmore is God
truly.
😂
Amazing solo, and it's Live and he didn't even want to do it. There is genius for you. I love this and the Concerto. Jon Lord is amazing too.
Ritchie is awesome
fantastic guitar solo! Blackmore is from another world!
I missed this, somehow-thanks for sharing Vince! Ritchie is so often overlooked, or dismissed as a one trick (or style) wonder..He could really get those Stratocasters to sing.
Don't know if I could call this his best solo, as he's had so many, but this is definitely another one of his classics. He plays in a key that I haven't otherwise heard him play in, so that's something that stands out about it.
Wow that was some sweet tasty playing Obviously Ritchie is an original genius Him and Uli Jon Roth are the classiest and most talented ever
Thanks for such a tremendous example of Ritchie's uniqueness. I first saw him live in '72 then had several opportunities to meet him. I have heard them all, I admire many, like Jan Akkerman, but taken as a whole (and you mentioned the "phrasing" aspect) ...there is no match for Blackmore and, sadly, because of the culture we live in today, there never will be.
Guitar fits exactly as it should. Top notch
Just don't understand all the hostility among Rockers. I grew up in the Seventies and have seen over a hundred concerts and all the big name bands and the great singers and the drummers and the too Guitarist. I can't remember them all. There we're so many great shows. Frank Marino, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, Billy Gibbons, Shawn Lane, Alvin Lee, Keith Richard's, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Gallagher, Slash, Van Halen, Sammy, Joe Walsh', Tommy Bolin, Gary Moore, Joe Perry and on and on. They all were great. Those that grew up back then we we're so blessed compared to the young folks today and we should appreciate the real talent we saw instead of being so cool with each other and respect the other guys opinion because all those guys were fantastic. I have to mention Brain May. Toni Iommi,. I saw Page also Alex Lifeson, Angus Young Shenker, Todd, To many to mention them all. But I have to be honest. Blackmore is my favorite and the best live Guitarist in my opinion and not just playing but the performance and how Ritchie did it visually. Hendrix is quoted as saying Ritchie is better than me. And he may be. But Jimmy loved all Guitarist and he was so humble and Ritchie and Jimmy kinda feed off each other and both became better. I think Ritchie had to step up to be the performer like Jimmy was and because of that Ritchie could wow the audience and Jimmy learned from Ritchie that everything doesn't have to be influenced by the Blues base Memphis Sound. And don't kid yourself that all these guys almost grew up from Memphis Music. So everyone try and respect others views because if not for all the talent we wouldn't have all the great music and memories.
That chord and burst of notes from Ritchie at 6:38 is the epitome of everything that rock and roll ought to be. This whole piece is fantastic, but that section is one of a few that really stands out.
such finesse and anger combined .... my definite number one player
great masterpiece,he is a great guitar player and so innovator!
Super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here play DP with Orchestra of the light music society live on September 1970 on London's Festival Hall ...never relased on LP ...1971 releasd as John Lord's LP without Richie and Gillan, they were this time so busy
he kills on "A Light in the Black"
Merveilleur Ritchie.💝🎆😘.
@patrickmichels Blackmore is infinitely better than Van Halen. This solo blows away anything Eddie ever did
67goldtops wins the argument. Richie good, Jimi best ever.
Thank for it! The music is even better than the other Lord,s work with the Royal Phils.
I didn,t know it, however I,m a big DP fan, but first of all I,m keen on Blackmore.
Best wishes from Hungary
Richies best solo ever was the solo in the middle of "CATCH THE RAINBOW" while he was with Rainbow from the 1977 "RAINBOW ON STAGE LIVE ALBUM:" starting at the 6:08 mark of the song. You can find it at this link.
ruclips.net/video/nOdxQ89XSSE/видео.html
Again that is just my opinion....comment as you wish. Loved Rainbow with Dio and Cozy Powell. great great great band.
m
'mi
Agreed. It's certainly up there with his best. Dream Chaser (Bring On The Night) is a bit special. Not my favourite album (Straight Between The Eyes), but that solo is very good indeed.
turboplazz I agree with you on the Catch the Rainbow solo,. But I think the lesser known solo from catch the rainbow from Rainbow live in Munich. 1977 is just so much better than the one from On Stage! There was video of that entire concert on RUclips but it has been removed. Shame, I think there is some audio from that concert still on RUclips though! Rock on!!!
+1000
No-one plays like Ritchie
@VincePalamara Yes I agree Ritchie is my favorite guitarist incredible talent created hard rock as we know it but that said, Van Halen was the next in line. That is all I'm saying. There is a natural progression and after Jimi, there was Ritchie then Eddie. All Eddie did was supercharge Ritchie's playing he didn't do anything new or different except for tapping. Ritchie was already doing the dive bombs, shredding, finger sweeping, etc. He created shred guitar! All others must acknowledge him
This was written by the brilliant Jon Lord with Ritchie in mind :O)
I would not call that greatest Ritchies solo in regard to his other solos, but still it is amazingly amazing. The compostion as a whole + Ritchie's fantastic play and sound.
Glorious Blackmore... he is the God...
Great RB!!!
"I was impressed by Hendrix. Not so much by his playing, as his attitude. He wasn't a great player, but everything else about him was brilliant. Even the way he walks was amazing."
Ritchie Blackmore
+Alessio C. For Blackmore Hendrix was a showman
Hendrix wasn't a great player, lol. Ritchie wishes he was half the player Hendrix was.
+VoxPathfinder15R If he was only half the player hendrix was then he'd only be an eighth the player he is now.
Hendrix different level
Nothing special about Richard Blackmore
the best.
This was DEFFINATLY hid old 335 with bigsby through his AC30,i,m pretty sure FIREBALL was the first time he used his strats on the ENTIRE recording (in rock is strat and 335)
@exc123 It is Ian Gillian`s statement, you can hear it in the DVD "Come hell or high water !
He is easily the best...and most unique...cannot be duplicated...even on "Mitzee Dupree"...the single coil sound....but best on the 335 of course...
Deep Purple mark 2 was the best imo but I have to admit this is pretty damn awesome ., I heard RB wasn't too keen on working with orchestras but this is class man :)
Jon Lord wrote the music. Each movement was written with the character of the soloist. This is supposed to describe Ritchie! It is Not a classical guitar piece! Ritchie only performed the live version! On the album it is played by Albert Lee.
I know Ian Gillan hated when Richie said that Eric Clapton can`t play !
Richie didn`t care about the Music(shit/better known) industry, he just said what he meant,
and he was right, I think ! God bless the true honest musicians !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful to see how the CIT solo was done. When I first heard that in the 70’s I was awestruck ... and still!. Apparently he improvised it on the spot as they only had 15 minutes studio time left.
Ritchie is great not primarily because of his manual/technical ability but because he came up with all those great solos and song structures. Ritchie, repeatedly tried to find someone as good as Jon Lord, for his band Rainbow. When he said this to Jon after they folded, he replied ..... “That person would be me Ritchie”
It’s pretty pointless, at Ritchie’s level, to argue about who’s the best guitarist. His qualities are unique . (The best? - He would say Jeff Beck or John Williams, if his interviews are anything to go by 😀)
i cried ..
@VincePalamara I have just discovered Uli Jon Roth because I saw him playing lead guitar with Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins At Rock Am Ring. They where playing Gossamer an amazing tune and his playing right up there with Billy's playing. Billy on lead guitar, Uli on lead guitar, Jeff on rhythmi guitar, Ginger on base guitar, and Lisa on the keyboard it was beautiful.
Imagine considering clapton a god when you had this happening at the time
Blackmore again one of the best. As like ever :D
For me the best solo is Child In Time of Concerto For Group and Orchestra '69
Epic.
the best ever
WOW!
Amazing Music
7.07 to around 7.35, riff from 'Help', cover by DP mark 1. Still 1 of my fav Blackmore's riffs.
Jedan je Ritchie Blackmoore.
Ritchie Is still a big fan of Hendrix
Richie was the first who did feedback noises on his guitar . But Hendrix Rule from his grave R.I.P. Jimi
Knut Slettetveit I am a general fan of feedback and would love to hear ritchie and any pre hendrix who type feedback.Does it go back before ritchie i wonder.
Matthew Taylor Jeff Beck with the Yardbirds was the one inspired the Feedback Craze of the 60s.
Master!
very good point, indeed !
thanks--I agree :)
@hary202 This is from Jon Lord's Gemini Suite---Ritchie's movement. See "show more" info box, above :O)
Ritchie inspired me to get up and start playing guitar
IMO the best Blackmore solo is the live version of "Difficult to Cure"
You are correct :)
Ritchie Blackmore - the finest guitarist ever. Simple as...
thanks :)
Same with me!!!)
@bonkemethod Wow thanks. I heard an interview with Ritchie and he was respectful to Eric as a matter of fact talked about how Eric inspired some of his riffs on
Lazy interesting...
thanks, dear! :O)
4:14 : THIS is Richie Blackmore How We Know him nd How We Like Him !!!
But this Moments are Rarely , he is one of the 10 Best guitarist of the60s and 70s , and That Means ALOT !
Hendrix and Page are my Favs but sometimes i like Blackmore too (Made In Japan !!!)
yes! :O)
well said :O)
Ritchie Blackmore is GOD.
No better than this solo: awesome. Greeting from USA haha
the best solo ever of Ritchie!Fantastic!
I agree
awesome is this one I will never forget Dio.(rip)
check out the solo on 6:28...it almost resembles Jon descending keyboard solo on highway star
same here
We Ritchie fans are biased BUT so are the rock guitar playing critics. I equally like Led Zeppelin, DEEP PURPLE and Rainbow (especially the DIO) years when Blackmore peaked in '77.
Since 2014 when it was announced that Jimmy Page CHEATED on the so-called 'best ever" live Zeppelin album _ How the West was Won - by actually creating studio solo overdubs in 2002 . . . BLACKMORE is the greatest. The 3 x live 70's albums - Made in Japan; Made in Europe and Rainbow - Live on Stage as well as the DVD of the 1977' Rainbow Munich concert speak volumes !!!!!
PS - His performance at the '74 Cal Jam is remarkable also
A slide
thanks- good comment
Yup that's Ritchie alright
@spentonmediocrity THANKS :)
@shredmaster100 That is complete bullshit you say. If youd seen him play live with his "medieval folk band" you'd cry from rock'n'roll pleasure. He didnt lose anything. He can do whatever he wants cause he is a free man and the biggest musician in the universe.
@ThePlank1999 Me to the first time i heard man on the silver mountain i wanted to play guitar
hey, hey, pui ve aw...
1:42-2:36
BEST PART!!!!!!!!!!!
ES-335 I should mention.
I don't recognize the guitar he's playing at 3:31. It has humbuckers and a larger pickguard, but a Fender neck on it. Anyone have any ideas?
Ritchie didn't play a strat on this recording...he played his Gibson on this recording.
@bombwow I agree :O)
!!!!...and PHRASING! Why do so few mention phrasing, one of the (if not THE most important aspects of great guitar (or ANY instrument, for that matter....) playing... !!!!
@jmastersherm1 we want more jmastersherm1, too :O)
this is not about blackmore but jon lord the composer !
Where the hell this came out? Released officially? Is it not a part of "Concerto For Group and Orchestra" '69, right?
+Alessio C. Official release- the GEMINI SUITE
Alessio C. Uriah heep
It was the Gibson/ Vox :)
whats he using to get that reverb ? i didnt think he had any
but the whole idea is to see him play it
Page and Blackmore the two greatest ever.
