as a child in the 50s and 60s both mrs mills and winefred attwell inspired me to get a harmonica i learned to play all the pub songs in my bedroom went on as a young man to teach myself piano and then the accordian. all three were my dream from 4 years old i lived my dream. thanks to them.
Although I was born 1936 and listened to the radio every day I had never listen to Mrs mills until a few weeks ago although Cherie Kunz I listened to many times
I'm not that old, just in my mid twenties. But this music makes me very nostalgic and comfortable - back to a time when life was much simpler. Thanks for the upload, friend.
This reminds me of the old Ritz Theatre we once had in our town, really the only place to go to back then! It now sits in ruins after it was left to crumble, perhaps similar to this style of music... it's such a shame.
you know what is really interesting and enjoyable with her music, is no one plays this style of piano playing anymore , they don't know how. Its a style, of playing, I have always enjoyed, and sadly we rarely hear it anymore
:) Well said :) this music gave me some much needed energy, now I feel energized and ready to take on the day! (Well, evening, since it's evening here, where I live :) )
Niina S.K I know what you mean - a great thing ! (it is a less well known thing that people who make themselves happy with music and laughter keep in better shape... to do with positive energy...singing is also good ... regards!
Just quickly- find an agent/rep, book a few shows, even twos a start and get out there so others can and do enjoy you. Seems like a big step at first but there’s no other way really and you’ll be glad u took it believe me. And be self confident! Stu X
Great minds this week Steve... These are from the Party Pieces LP if my memory serves me correctly. Excellent stuff and some great images to accompany.
wordsmith52 ...yes I remember it raised my eyebrow a little, but on listening it was never intended to compete with Glad as it turned out, just an enhancement.
Although I searched on Google and elsewhere, I cannot find the lyrics for the second song in this Mrs Mills album. The song is titled "Hold Me" Does anyone know how to find the sheet music or the lyrics? Thanks in advance
At 1:52 we see a young Jeremy Paxman with his girlfriend (at least that's what someone suggested to me!) - but I think it is less likely since he would probably have been too young at the time (the photo was from the late 1950s on the A20 at Swanley, Kent with traffic returning from the coast in the early evening. Still, you never know...
The thing about Mrs Mills is that all her notes were perfectly hit, not a single mistake.
Ah, yes, Mrs. Mills. There is absolutely no other woman piano player who captures the essence of that instrument better than her.

David Barron hhhhuuuuuu
SHE IS MY FAVOURITE.
Can see my old dad singing these old numbers
Tearing this old heart out! Heart of my heart was my first jag at age 16? This Mrs Mills person is my daily joyous party.
Heard this linked to the RUclips film, London traffic jam (1946) Both brilliant!
Thanks Glad for all the great music. Here's hoping your still playing as you continue your journey.
I love Mrs. Mills piano style of playing. Thanks for posting her music. Rest in peace dear Gladys Mills. Glad we still have your music to enjoy.
William Fox u r welcome!
Although I was born 1936 and listened to the radio every day I had never listen to Mrs mills until a few weeks ago although Cherie Kunz I listened to many times
Nice thank you - Mrs Mills seems to have widened her auidence a lot since her untimely passing in the late 70s.
Mrs.Mills you are the BEST Thank you for your Beautiful Music Never Forgotten R.I.P
This music surely "holds me" & being the world's best listener I can feel it all.

These tunes bring back such good old memories. My mother and sisters used to harminize to them when I was a kid.
Good times were had by all no doubt! The words to those songs were so nice back then. Best wishes.
Wonderful music like this will live on...unlike the rap crap and hip hops sh*t that passes for music today.
I grew up in the 70's with a player piano and Joanne Castle and this is charming! Thanks for something positive and heart warming!
those were the days memories
wonder what became of all those people that are in the pictures?

Lovely to listen to all the old music, brings back many memories
yes - I agree - simple songs - big meanings. all the best.

+califdad4 Agreed - thanks for watching.
I agree, and I love this kind of piano playing! It cheers me up! :)
Niina S.K ..thanks - I agree and that was Mrs Mills' objective - no point being miserable - best wishes!

Brings back a million happy memories to an army old sweat.
Que Fantastico !!! Lindo demais ...!!!
I like playing this music when I drive into the city
Thanks - so did I some time ago - distracted me from what awaited me!
the traffic?
not so much the traffic - more the work problems...
ah I see
....was and still is a stress buster for me! All the best.
Great minds this week Steve...

***** that's correct Jo, from 1968. (I particularly like the organ backing - although I know others were less pleased with it back then..)
wordsmith52 ...yes I remember it raised my eyebrow a little, but on listening it was never intended to compete with Glad as it turned out, just an enhancement.
The backing I believe was provided by a section of Geoff Loves Orchestra. He was a very pleasant type of guy.
I think that most strict tempo pianists had backing invariably
drums and bass.
Ian Cooper ...yes throughout Glad's enormous amount of recorded material she was rarely without Geoff Love's accompaniment.
This music sounded like it was coming out of a western movie.
....could be!

HOLD ME

When you`re near me
I feel so romantic
When you`re far away
I`m always blue
If you want me
To remain romantic
Here are all the things
You`ll have to do
Hold me, honey won't you hold me, yeah
Hold me, never let me go
Take me, honey Won’t you take me
Never to forsake me Cause I love you so
Thrill me
Baby, let your kisses thrill me
Just like yours alone can do
Hold me, tenderly enfold me
Never try to hold me away from you
Thrill me
Baby, let your kisses thrill me
Just like yours alone can do
Hold me, tenderly enfold me
Never try to hold me away from you
Don't try to hold me away from you
REPEAT

Wouldn't that make him getting on for 80...:-)
***** yes Jo - that;s what I thought - but (& all due respect to him) he's no youngster now!) - maybe the photo is newer or he started young lol!
wordsmith52 10 out of 10 for diplomacy...:-))
***** that'll be it! (I see the girl is looking away from him, so maybe he'd already started his interrogation techniques, lol
wordsmith52 'Answer the question Mrs Mills...answer the question...ANSWER THE QUESTION...'
