To help with chipped buttons get your Service Alphas and Dress Blues Blouses "Button Holed". This will allow you to remove all the black and gold buttons for dry cleaning. Plus you can use a boot string behind them on the inside of the coat to keep all the eagles head pointing up. Semper Fidelis Marines
In The Old Guard (the Army's ceremonial unit), we removed the buttons and used safety pins (I liked using the heavy-duty safety pins from bandoliers of M855 anno). We never took our ceremonial uniforms to the cleaners, as that was a guarantee that we'd get them back with railroad tracks or what have you. My first tour of four years saw me constantly pressing my Blues out but only ever washing the shirts and gloves. Each company has press rooms, and a good steam press gets them fairly clean. Anything visible takes lint brushes and plenty of tape.
@@SFMF247 I had a part time gig...Friday Saturday..Sundays running the Camp Butler scuba locker...I WANNA GO BACK for a season of the worlds best diving!!
The most common mistake is placement, just because it looks one way on the hanger doesn't mean it stays that way when worn. Double check before being seen in public.
Ooorah a LCpl with a Service Stripe. That brings back memories. A Cpl could reup for Sgt.. I knew both... and some of us refused to reup for Sgt.. Pinned on Sgt in 26 months. Had my Wool Overcoat Service Alpha's.. Sgt stripes and a Service Stripe.. the only way to fly lol.. I spent a lot of money on wooden hangers as well. Additionally I turned in both my trousers and the blouse at the same time. So they were the same color. Nothing worse than faded trousers and dark blouse. We had locker inspections every Friday. Field day the barracks Thursday night. Plus J.O.B. and IG inspections routinely... everytime everything went to the cleaners and then meticulously ironing and startching to perfection. To include skivvy drawers, t-shirts and socks, all new never worn and folded to perfection. Have a tackle box with all ribbons, badges and medals... and devices. Everything in the tackle box. Shoe /boot shine kits.... THOSE WERE THE DAYS OOORAH !! SFMF...
I still have my tackle box. Being retired now, it's probably time to look into giving its contents away. The Army is badge happy, and those aren't cheap, so I probably have about $300 just in Recruiter and Drill Sergeant badges...
@@anonymousm9113 LOL, I could restock the exchange lol. I was so used to just grabbing several items. Every time I was at the exchange. But I gotta say it saved me on more than one occasion when I had to prepare a uniform for an inspection or just everyday wear, and the exchange was closed. Your right though, you guys have a lot of items to keep track of. Well before you do away with everything. Purchase a few blank zippy lighters. Then glue on a few of the devices. To have a collection display to keep on the shelf with everything else. If anything one day the kids and or grandkids will enjoy it one day. It's a legacy worthy of passing on down.
@ronthompson2366 My favorite days to put together uniforms were as a Private. Army Service Ribbon and NDSM. Then I got a Combat Infantryman's Badge, then Air Assault. Quite a few other ribbons and devices to put on those ribbons. Oh, and the obligatory name plate and so on. It adds up. I was just an average Infantryman, but I think I had at least seven badges and 14 ribbons plus other stuff to put on. When it was time to hang it up, I took my five months of leave and never opted for a retirement ceremony.
The base had a good one,my dad used an off post dry cleaner once and he refused to ever go back after they kept fucking things up…. But one thing I can say is both my mom and dad showed me how to stitch things up with needle and thread as well as know how to use an old singer sewing machine from the 1940s maybe even the 30s lol thing was old but it did better stitch work than what my schools had for my home economics class.
And don’t forget to check for “Irish Pendants” as in stray strings and threads around patches, buttons and hem lines. This could be the difference between being squared away on an inspection or not! Had a CO find a few on my uniform in boot camp and he pulled on em to try and spool em off! ✌🏽
A few times been stationed areas where the cleaners were not used to military uniforms 😮 Really had to pull that plastic off ASAP (stripes not even close to center crease 😢) 🙃🤪 - Oorah!
Remember when I was a boot. First time getting my alphas dry cleaned. I also had them put on my Lance Corporal insignia. That shit was upside down! 😂 and we were just outside MacDill too! wtf!
👍👍💯🇺🇸 A good cleaner will spoil you for life. 😂 Once had a cleaner with an employee who understood the high standards some clothes required. Boy did I miss that when we left the area. 😢
I miss those uniforms dearly. When I was discharged, I gave all of my Marine Corps uniforms away to the civillian moving company employees that unloaded all of our furniture. But now I feel the need to "twerk" in front of the mirror in my dress blues 😂.. but now I ain't got no uniforms to do it in.
I would've hated to come across that Sergeant Major after he got his rank sewn upside down 😅😂
Lol I caught that also.

Camp Hansen. ( A co. 1/1 0331 )
Our Houseman in the Philippines could get inspection ready for MSG SCHOOL.
Good advice as always. Marine's uniforms are so beautiful, and deserve the best of care
Good naval infantry advice for a fine part of the Navy

That’s how you stay Locked On SgtMaj
Wise words indeed. Mammason does a good job too.

Can you do one how to prepare uniforms after extended time out if service?

Yes sirrrr! Of course, I had to learn the hard way 😏…

Had a chevron on upside down on one shirt. Busted to private.
Here is the real question.
What do you do with all of them when you are out???
Keep them… store them properly. I’m saving mine for my kids.

I’m assuming you work at MMA in Texas judging by the backgrounds you have in your shorts?
How does being OCD with uniforms improve military readiness?
Would it be possible for a Australian like me to join the United States Marine Corps because I love the Marines the uniform and how they train.
❤😊

I noticed the upside down chevron. Completely missed the L/cpl who shipped over.
Haha, yup! Imagine seeing a Marine wearing that!! And unfortunately, I’ve seen a few

We had a PFC in 2/4 in the mid 80's that had a 3 row rack on his chest and 4 hash marks. He was a Former Gunny, never got the true story on his bust.
