    Hi AngelSix - nice video, but I think there are two things that could be explained in more detail (Sorry for the long comment, I tried to be brief but...)
    1. Use/abuse of units:
    The convention (under Linux at least) is that metric indication of storage units (multiples of 1000) use the form kB, MB, GB, TB etc., while the base 2 variants (multiples of 1024) are presented as either KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB etc. or just K, M, G, T etc. Which means that if I run commands such as ls (list files) df (free space) and du (disk usage) with the -h option (human readable format), by default the output will be in units of K, M, G, T etc. as appropriate and there is no ambiguity. One can actually use the --block-size option for most of these commands to choose what size and unit format should be displayed. Also, my file manager (Xfce Thunar) will display units as KiB, MiB etc. once again removing any ambiguity. Unfortunately many applications (especially in the Windows world - even the Windows 10 file explorer is guilty of this) completely ignore this convention and show file sizes using base 2 format, but then go ahead and stick the metric version of the unit at the end. An example: I have a file on disk named 'video.mp4'. On my Debian system the file size is reported as either 35300K or 36148kB, depending on my chosen options. This is correct as 36148 = 35300*1.024. Windows 10 file explorer, on the other hand, reports 35300KB for the same file, i.e. it reports the base 2 file size while using the metric unit rather than the corresponding base 2 unit.
    2. Hardware vendors misrepresenting storage capacity of devices.
    This issue is what actually brought me here. I have just bought a brand new flash drive. The device is being marketed and sold as a 64GB flash drive; if we assume this to be the metric representation, it translates to a capacity of 62.5GiB. However, this drive has 118110208 sectors with a sector size of 512B,giving 60472426496B, i.e. 60.5GB or 56.3GiB available storage. In other words, no matter how one looks at it, the claimed capacity in this case is nothing else but a lie.
    I'm not saying that that all vendors are guilty of this, but from my experience a lot of them are.

    So why don't they advertise in the same unit that computers work with? Otherwise they're just lying to us and cheating us. People should get what they paid for. I just bought an 8 terabytes SSD (as advertised) and only got 7.27 terabytes when I plugged it in. If that's the case then they should increase the size of their drives and market them as what the consumers actually get when they use them. Someone buys 1 terabyte drive he should get 1024 gigabytes on the computer screen not 931 gigabytes. People should be in an uproar and hold these companies accountable for such actions.

    Nice Video, I like to know who the delete and restore works. Because if you delete something space is then available for you to use, and where is the deleted stuff sitting?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 лет назад +2

      Depends where you delete it from, the file size and the operating system. Files too large get deleted completely meaning the position and location on the drive where the file is gets forgotten. If you use secure deleting the area where to contents is also gets overwritten to scramble the data, otherwise the location where the data is on the hard drive is is forgotten and now at any point in time that data could get overwritten. If the file is smaller than typically 4GB it can be moved to a recycle bin so its only like moving the file to another folder. The space is still used. Once you empty your recycle bin then the same happens as mentioned above

    AngelSix, I know you made a video 8 months ago about win10 + black theme, I have followed it several times but I have never got the explorer to look as good and "clean" as yours in this video. I usually get one or two colors that don't fit in at all. Are you still using the same theme from your video or have you found a better way to make the black theme? And other programs like Hyper-V and SQL Server Management Studio usually don't follow the them very good at all on my computer which is why I usually go back to the standard look after a few days :-(

    • @alexk7467
      @alexk7467 3 месяца назад

      As explained in the first part of the video about kilobytes, terrabytes etc, you are getting the amount of storage you're paying for. Windows formats in binary and shows the decimal prefix not the binary prefix. That's where the confusion occurs with the sizes. The amount of reviews I read on websites claiming it's false advertising etc but you are getting what you pay for.

    I purchased two identical HP 256GB USB flash drives. First one reads 230GB's, and the second one reads 232GB's. Why is there a 2GB difference between these two flash drives?? Also, is 230/232GB's(26/24GB difference) the actual size for a 256GB flash drive?? Is this normal?, because there seems to be a bit of discrepancy there. Any advise would be very helpful and appreciated before I make the decision to return these. Thanks.

    So is my “4TB” seagate hard drive stuck at 3.68 TB capacity or is there anyway to increase the capacity to a full 4TB? Like what exactly happened to that 0.32 space? Is it being used as something else. My brain hurts.

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  5 лет назад +1

      Ha nope thats just not there. It's the false advertising of 1000 bytes of space where computers read and display based on 1024 bytes

    i dont get it, why there are two types of units instead of one?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 лет назад

      xpilarz0 I believe it was all due to marketing being able to sell less physical space for more money. No reason computers should show one size and sales packaging and advertising use another. But that's how it is

    • @jodevgn
      @jodevgn 6 лет назад

      There's actually a pretty nice short explanation on Wikipedia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte ). In short, the binary value of 1024 conflicts with the SI kilo prefix (1000). Therefore the kibi (and other xxbi variants) we're established to go along side-by-side with SI units, back in 1998.
