Just FYI as a Londoner, whilst obviously slavery and the commonality of torture & mistreatment of prisoners is a very dark & shameful part of our history, we were not “the originators”. Slavery, shackles, torture devices etc have been around for millennia in pretty much every country and culture on earth going back to the days of the ancient Egyptians, who built their empires on the backs of slaves and had horrific torture methods to punish criminals & enemies. Obviously that doesn’t make any of it right and it’s still barbaric, but I really don’t think it’s fair to paint Britain as the originator of it. Britain wasn’t even the originator of the transatlantic slave trade - that was the Portuguese, although our later participation and profiteering off it is extremely shameful and criminal. Britain was also the country who spent 40% of its GDP and countless naval ships & soldier’s lives stamping out the slave trade later.
I agree with everything you said. BUT - the Brits colonized the world (“The sun never sets on the British Empire”). Colonization is horrific and we are still tryna clean that up. The Americans did the same on our continent. Really, it’s Human History. We are capable of amazing things as a species but also horrific, parasitic things. I hope we learn before it’s too late.

My grandfather was in the workhouse. So...yeah, unpaid forced labour was a thing. So, I'm not taking b.ame for what the rich, and the royals, did...and do. But here's a fun fact. The first police force I the world was Thames River Police. It was set up to defend slave ships docked in London from the ordinary Londoners. True. The people hated slavery because that's what the rich would do to us and did every chance they got. So ordinary londorers would throw bottles and bricks at the ships crews.

@@TravelSpreeOfficial I wouldn’t say overpaid given it fed 4 of you and in London. But it was a “posh” roast different to the normal carvery most of us have Toby carvery is the biggest national chain and they charge around £7 each. But as a national chain, some of their pubs are awesome and some are terrible. Most pubs will do a Sunday carvery where you pay at the bar, get given a small ticket which you then go to the carving counter, give the chef the ticket to show you’ve paid and tell him which of the meats on offer you’d like and he slices and plates it, then gives you the plate and you help yourself to the sides buffet style. Pub roasts are ordered from a menu and served by staff to your table. But mosts Brits will tell you their moms Sunday dinners beat any pub food, would be awesome to see you link up with some Brits and be given a proper home cooked Sunday dinner

You know the Hebrews were slaves to the Egyptian Pharoah waaaayyyy before England became involved in the slave trade, but yes, when there were bad kinds I'm sure peasants felt like slaves, but there was always threat of revolt from them
London was not the originator of torturous things, or slavery, not by a long shot. Slavery was practiced by the Phoenicians, a very early civilisation from the Levant at the east end of the Mediterranean. Later, The story of Joseph and his coat of many colours, in the Old Testament remember, tells how he was sold into slavery by his brothers! The Bible also recounts the description of the Crucifixion which was a torturous death. And the some Roman Emperors organised terrible things to kill people in the Coliseums, and Aztecs did dreadful things playing football with peoples heads, the Japanese did torture and so it goes on and on. At the other end of the subject, England WAS at the forefront of the abolition of slavery, long before the US stopped it.
Am i the only ones who was thinking bargain? £10 for those real shackles? lol saw the comments, and highlight. Appreciate you holding your hands up. Theres a great vid that explains we fought against it though. Coronation chicken sandwich?
That is not British fish and chips! The chips are definitely not your typical “chippy” chips and no curry sauce 😱 you need to be closer to the coast to get a good 1 which is pretty easy to do in the uk with the rail service. Not hate just feedback and ❤ x
The pilgrims actually started their journey from exile in the Netherlands, but they boarded the _Mayflower_ in London and called in at Southampton on the south coast to pick up supplies etc. Plymouth was the last place they called at before departing across the Atlantic. There's an old riverside pub called The Mayflower in the Rotherhithe district of London which is supposedly where the ship started its journey (being named after it years later).
They boarded the Mayflower in London, then sailed east along the Thames, around the Essex and Kent coasts, west to Southampton and Plymouth was the last port of call before crossing the ocean.
@dunbardunelm3924 yeah, they were very convenient. Bit like the fire that did for the last remaining business who wouldn't sell up on the land spurs needed to build their new stadium.

@@TravelSpreeOfficial except The Clink never held slaves, since slavery has actually been illegal in the UK since the fall of the Roman Empire. And Britain and London certainly was NOT the originator of slavery, imprisonment & torture, so to proclaim that it was and that “all other countries followed” is quite ignorant & disrespectful of our history, and shows an alarming lack of knowledge of world history.
@@LollyJActually while technically Britain didn't have slavery on the British isles their colonies definitely had slaves and the owners were British. Also while technically it was illegal to have slaves in the British isles you actually did have adverts about slaves who were bought with their by their owners who had run away. Camden town being touristy. Lol Camden used to be a run down area in the 1970s Then in the 1980s like a lot of run down areas in London, Artists moved into the area. From photographers painters designers and musicians moved in to Camden. Then a little knownl Designer moved into Camden and started to build her world wide empire there. That designer was called Vivian Westwood. She started out in a shop selling tee shirts with printed political slogans on them and then grew from there. This is what put Camden on the tourist map! You also mentioned the "Mayflower" another little known fact by the American people. The Mayflower is remembered as leaving Plymouth to sail to the USA or New World as it was known back in the day. This is actually factually wrong. The Mayflower and its crew originally came from a sea side town in Essex England. That town actually built the Mayflower the Crew all lived there including the Captain of the Mayflower who undertook that voyage to the New World. That town was actually Harwich on the North Essex coast

I’m glad you went to Covent Garden, that’s where I like to stay when visiting London.
For your curried chickeen sandwich, you need to ask for Coronation chicken....hope that helps!
Not the Emmy speech 😅😂
My favorite part 😂
You guys should do a Germany trip! Southern Germany the state of Bavaria is so beautiful. There is a castle called Neuschwanstein Castle. It was the castle that inspired Walt Disney. It's a whole different world there. The food is incredible and the people are so nice
Germany is high up on our list!! Can’t wait to travel there
When y’all started out on the clink joint I thought it would be fun and slightly creepy but Fain I’m glad you spoke your mind as I was thinking the same thing. I was getting a bit too creeped out. I think I’ll skip that one when we go to London. But I do have a curiosity about how the plague was handled and what people thought was going on at the time.
Who do you think built the pyramids in Egypt?
The flat earthers, so it can evenly balance the disk of earth so, we don’t fly off into a black hole and return to our past. The Denver airport shows that… duh 🙄
Workers who were paid built the pyramids. The idea that slaves built the pyramids is an outdated misconception and disproven by archaeology.
Food always taste nicer in the summer ....
The way I nearly passed out at £95 for that carvery. Toby carvery or normal pub carvery for us Brits 😂
Awesome to see you really enjoying our country, will definitely be getting a photo of your sticker when we come down for the formula 1 exhibition at the start of next year
Lol I’m guessing we overpaid? 😂 but they also let us order endless sides!
@@TravelSpreeOfficial I wouldn’t say overpaid given it fed 4 of you and in London. But it was a “posh” roast different to the normal carvery most of us have
Toby carvery is the biggest national chain and they charge around £7 each.
@@darrenjones22 As if a Toby Carvery is a decent roast.🤣
@@darrenjones22You are talking nonsense.
@@nicolad8822 welcome to post your own opinion. Toby is fine for what it is at the price it is if you go to one of the better ones, the bad ones I wouldn’t feed to a dog. Of course there’s much better available
You need malt vinegar on the fish! It’s so yummy😊
Did you have salt and vinegar on your chips, if you didn't then it's not chips!
Fain did!
You know the Hebrews were slaves to the Egyptian Pharoah waaaayyyy before England became involved in the slave trade, but yes, when there were bad kinds I'm sure peasants felt like slaves, but there was always threat of revolt from them
We have some beautiful Christmas Markets in Bucharest ✌️🎄🎁☃️❄️🎅
So cool i didnt know Tony abd Sarah are from my neck of the woods in Maryland 🥰👍
Looks awesome!!!
Am i the only ones who was thinking bargain? £10 for those real shackles? lol
saw the comments, and highlight.
I thought the Mayflower left form Plymouth not london.
I wanted to go to that cheese wheel place too. I have it saved in my Google maps . So glad I know here to look now thanks to you guys 😊.
I think you will find that the pilgrims on the Mayflower left from Plymouth. 😂😂😂😂
@@whitedrguy6503 Actually they went to Amsterdam in the Netherlands 1st .
@@MaxwellMoore-d1u Leiden.
They boarded the Mayflower in London, then sailed east along the Thames, around the Essex and Kent coasts, west to Southampton and Plymouth was the last port of call before crossing the ocean.
I hope you were able to get a salt beef beigel in Brick Lane! Those were one of my favorite bites in London!
Nope, sounds like we’ll have to try it next time
you two are the cutest ❤
🥰
Good morning friends
Good morning! ❤️
Sunday roast is the best!
It’s like Thanksgiving but better lol
Curious if you guys stayed at the Westminster Curio Hilton. Those rooms look exactly like the ones we stayed at last Christmas
Yup, that’s the hotel!
Camden used to be cool. Loads of great, proper market stalls. Good pubs etc. it's a tourist hell hole now.
Since all of the 'convenient' fires, Camden has changed dramatically but it still has a special place in my heart ❤🥰.
@dunbardunelm3924 yeah, they were very convenient. Bit like the fire that did for the last remaining business who wouldn't sell up on the land spurs needed to build their new stadium.
Yeah it definitely felt super touristy, but then again, we’re tourists haha
@@TravelSpreeOfficial this is true. Used to be very gritty though. Punk and then indie culture. Great small music venues and could buy magic mushrooms (when it was still legal) to go and eat on primrose hill nearby. Fun times
To anyone else visiting and wanting a Sunday roast, get out if central London and go to a good pub instead. It’ll be just as good but a bit cheaper, amongst real Londoners, with proper British ale.
It’s always a bummer when they mix too many cheese together and it ends up tasting bland. Loving this London adventure so far 🎉
Yeah definitely looked better than it tasted haha
That Taylor swift photo is blasphemous 🤦🏻♀️
The curried chicken sandwich is known as coronation chicken , for if you visit again 😊
Yes! We figured that out eventually haha
Espresso martinis with roast dinner? 🤢🤣
I like poppies but it is so so expensive. £22.50 for cod and chips, anywhere else out of London it’s half the price and less.
skin on fish is MOSTLY a southern thing
and an inland thing
If you're looking for curry chicken sandwich because of a memory, I'm thinking you might be thinking of chicken tikka
Or Coronation chicken
Omg need jacket deets 😂
Uh.. canal not river..
Looks to be great place to vist for the holidays herd that about lot of Europe. Are u planning head north into Wales and Scotland when their. Surprised you did do the Harry potter stuff
Harry Potter was sold out. They mentioned this in their first 🛫 flying to London video ☺️
@dunbardunelm3924 yea I remember it other stuff of the movie around London I seen others do.
I wish we had gone to Scotland! We did get out of the city on our last day though, so that video will be coming up!
I'm a "Swifty" for her basic principal, generosity and kindness for what's she's done and her support. I've always liked her but I don't go out of my way for the music.
I can understand that!
does Tony and sarah have a youtube channel?
www.youtube.com/@TheDetourDuo
Oh Fain, how could you not be affected by that prison? That is a real part of our dark past which did translate to the slave culture/trade. An important reminder for everyone.
Yeah it’s one thing to hear about it but entirely another to see physical evidence of it
Those prisons never held slaves. No slaves were in England...ever!
Read a book before you apologise for something you had no involvement in.
Get your fact right..... you obviously are very confused.
@@LollyJActually while technically Britain didn't have slavery on the British isles their colonies definitely had slaves and the owners were British. Also while technically it was illegal to have slaves in the British isles you actually did have adverts about slaves who were bought with their by their owners who had run away. It would be the equivalent of saying because murder is illegal it wasn't happening. I recommend you watch a video by a lady called jdraper called " Slavery for white people". She is an English lady and quite well versed as on the subject. Also I may add these places like the British Carribbean were also considered the United Kingdom up until independence in the sixties. My grandparents passport literally says the United Kingdom on them. Then it states the island they are from on the bottom.
Other countries did the same.
im glad you tried fish and chips and a sunday roast and didnt do what americans tend to do, which is just go with what they know and have a hotdog and a pizza. btw its coronation chicken sandwich im sure.
Was it a narrow entrance to a restaurant
London is San Francisco of Europe
🤔🤔 That's a new one on me but then, I've never been to SF...[🏃🏃🏾♀️rushes off to seek out SF scenery content 😂] ✨
That fish and chips looked disgusting.
lol 😂 Laura “ I don’t have a shrine “
He called me out REAL quick lol
The inaccuracies of what you say is the most disturbing thing about this video! Do your research first. Pathetic
'Pathetic' is a bit harsh, mate. There's no need for that.
We admitted we were wrong and apologized, so I don’t see the need for the “pathetic” part of this? It was an emotional moment for Fain and his wording was inaccurate. Everyone makes mistakes in emotional situations. We’re learning just like everyone else.
Camden town being touristy. Lol Camden used to be a run down area in the 1970s
Then in the 1980s like a lot of run down areas in London, Artists moved into the area.
The Mayflower is remembered as leaving Plymouth to sail to the
USA or New World as it was known back in the day.
This is actually factually wrong. The Mayflower and its crew originally came from a sea side town in Essex England. That town actually built the Mayflower the Crew all lived there including the Captain of the Mayflower who undertook that voyage to the New World. That town was actually Harwich on the North Essex coast
Taylor itch got you unsubscribed
is that promise we will never see you again??
Omfg 😂😂 but then, I'd feel the same way about a Beyoncé fan 😭😭😂
I am so sorry about these comments Fain. People taking their time to gaslight and obfuscate under the guise of setting the record straight is both disingenuous and shows a serious lack of empathy. It’s not surprising but still disappointing.
@@taemtaem1625 how is correcting a blatantly untrue statement by educating him with historical fact “gaslighting”? He made a claim about another country that is false and ignorant and put it on the internet - as a Brit why is it “disengenuous” to correct it? Why is it lacking in empathy to inform him of his incorrect statement and assumption that HE chose to state as fact on the internet?
I was just saying that a lot of people are not leading with empathy by his one comment that was made when he was emotionally feeling a bit distressed. I just wanted to acknowledge that. I don’t think the point was about who started chattel slavery. It was a real moment and real feelings he was having in the moment. And I stand by my comment.
So you rather have lies than facts?
@@taemtaem1625 no, he was propagating the myth, thus has to be corrected. What if a white person stated all criminals were black and that's were criminals came from? Wrong is wrong.
@taemtaem1625 thank you so much for your support! ❤️ I made some claims that I believed at the time and have since be corrected. Don’t get me wrong I feel like an idiot and and should be more responsible with what I say. But In all honesty, I’m glad there are people that care enough to call me out and prove me wrong. Now that I know better I can do better ☺️
You've got your History wrong on slavery. You've bought your book marker now you need to read more. You have just put me off your channel. If I was you I'd take this video down or edit the slavery inaccuracies out of this video. We welcome you to our Country and you offend us. Go look at your own USA History when it comes to Slavery. I think it was called the American civil war.
You didn’t see Camden properly from the video cos there’s so much to see other than the food stands lol big markets indoors and out and Regent’s Park close by if the weathers nice
It's impossible (and tiring) to try and 'do' Camden in one day - they covered a good amount though ☺️. Give me a few Sundays and a wad of cash and I'll be nice 😂
