This kinda makes me want a unique Sonic.EXE take. The premise is that Sonic.EXE (let's say it's Exetior, but could be any of them really, as long as it needs a host) starts his usual killing shenanigans, but some kind of character manages to activate a Seal of Endless Rebirth. What it does is basically turn the "assist character" mechanic (where no matter how often they die, they always get reincarnated) into lore canon for absolutely everyone. This normally wouldn't mean too much, as being killed is still very unpleasant and instinctively feared. However, there's a twist. Exetior, being the demon that he is, gets more powerful as he keeps killing people. This may seem like a purely bad thing for everyone except Exetior himself, but unbeknownst to Exetior, Sonic's body can only hold that much power. And an EXE's host, if reincarnated after dying, always gets reincarnated as themselves (with the EXE becoming disembodied and effectively powerless until it can possess a new host, which is easier said than done at a power level that killed Sonic from within). The problem with that is, Exetior only gains power that way rather slowly (at least compared to the far-past-Fleetway power threshold needed), so in order to kill him through power overload, the heroes have to let him kill them many, many times. Cue a heartbreaking moment where everyone, Tails and Amy first obviously, vows to follow through and bring back Sonic, no matter how much pain it takes.
