Such an amazing discussion…I spent 32 years of marriage to a narcissist, true classic, lying, cheating, betrayals, public humiliation, gaslighting, nasty, insults under the guise of “joking”, and so much more. I took care of him for the last 4 months of his life, that was a year ago. I’m still working through the chaos and devastation he’s caused
When my mom passed I abused weed to the point I was having panic attacks and anxiety. Now I’m on meds for my anxiety. I found I started to try to drink shots (only on weekends) but last week I found myself taking 3 or 4 shots. I can not replace on addiction with another. I don’t even like liquor. So I chose to be sober thru and thru. It has been a struggle but my daughter is worth me being my best self
Ed's interviews never fail! I struggled for so many years trying to figure out and understand why I couldn't make things work with my Ex. All the puzzle pieces are coming together now.
When he shared about codependently linking with others pain, and soothing them to not have emotional outbursts..Ouch..Hit home! Sometimes you just don't realize there is still work to be done.
Another exceptional interview! Thank you Dr. Drew for responding to Ed’s questions in a way that is understandable and also for being willing to ask other doctor’s questions when main stream was ignoring their professional opinions during the 3 year pandemic. Grateful for courageous men like you!🙏🏻
No. It’s not necessarily going to be ok, often times it won't be, especially for average people. Be at peace with things outside your control, and take massive action on what's in your control. Don't expect things to magically change for the better with time.
@@theodosios2615 lol, yeah! Who needs food, shelter, even somebody to just talk to as long as somebody said, "Thoughts and Prayers" somewhere on social media once. I'm an idiot for volunteering at the local homeless shelter. I need to get on the level of these people. So much more efficient to take 5 seconds instead of devoting hours a day to actually help people.
This is so good!! I loved all of this. I liked it so much that I took notes in a Word Document. Some fav quotes are listed below! "You stop looking out for your own emotions because you're too busy with the emotions of the parent or the other person. Childhood injury manifests into a poor relationship." - Dr. Drew. "The best fighter pilot would be an alcoholic narcissist." - Dr. Drew. "A coward's approach is saying someone is bad instead of saying their action was bad. It is a coward's approach to managing an argument" -Dr. Drew "My perspective changes over time." - Ed "Same here!!!" - Ed. (Love your enthusiasm!) "Bliss and satisfaction are two different things. I still want to grow. I think I get a lot of significance out of contributing." - Ed "A pathway to happiness is curiosity and trying something new." - Ed This show has great energy, Thanks!
12:20 to 16:00 I cannot believe how much my life sounds exactly like Dr.Drew. I am also a codependant who is really great at helping others regulate their emotions. I have been working on boundaries for myself as well as self love because it gets exhausting to worry about others and trying to save them which I know I can't ugh
Profound podcast! I grew up as well listening to Dr Drew at night. My last relationship was codependent in nature with a narcissistic person. This show has helped me to understand why i choose that path. In my journey to heal i have learned so much and understand now why i choose that relationship. Now as i heal i look at relationships in a whole new light. All this learning and growing has helped me to be a better parent and person. So thankful for this message and all the positive messages Ed puts out.

16 minutes in and I'm absolutely loving this conversation! My mother was/is an absolute tyrant and grew up feeling utterly terrorised from her and my sister, father and her divorced when I was 5 but he was a diagnosed schizophrenic living in the community most of the time. I Didn't want anything to do with him thanks to mother's brainwashing and manipulation! He knew he was ill and was open about it whereas she... Has absolutely no idea how mentally ill she is but it has all played out in her physical health drastically. I've distanced my self since age 26 and now aged 43 I live abroad, being the black sheep and the family not talking to me all due to her lies etc!
Ok... wow: The definition of a narcissist. If that was all I took with me, I would have taken life changing knowledge. I am sending this one to everyone I know.
I’m 13 minutes in - the whole I picked you because you’re so special - hit me. I’ve hd those friends. I don’t anymore. That this “you’re so special” crap has it’s origins in being raised by -as high functioning as they might be- narcissists is making good sense as a foundation. I’m sure the same words can be said authentically too, and not as a hook to try and fill someone’s sorry self.
Interesting!.. I never knew therapists had the uncanny stuff poke in on the sessions, but it does make sense because well, we can’t leave that out can we. Not without some garlic and such haha. But seriously, that’s pretty creepy to think something so disturbing to someone else can then creep in… but you know what? It’s true because I had this friend that said her whole life she had dreams about people chasing her, and I let her sleep over at my beach house, one night, and the very next night I had a dream that I was being chased in my dream, and it blew me away. I was like no more sleepovers. Thank you.
Great Podcast! The information was powerful and very informative. So much information I will have to listen to this one 2x a day all week to get everything out of it. I shared it on my social media as well.
Very interesting. I believe narcissism is not a disorder so much as it is an instinctive reaction to childhood fear. The frightened child's mind takes an instinctive turn toward a more "law of the jungle," kill or be killed, eat or be eaten mentality. Narcissism is an instinctive survival tactic that, once in place, never goes away.
I wanted to just keep listening to this one. Just wow. Your comment about not knowing if weed was aggressive. I wonder that myself because of my experience. I've experienced abuse from someone who smoked.
One of the key takeaways from this video is the importance of a healthy diet in promoting brain health!! We need to consume foods that are rich in essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins! Everything in life is about compounding! How much is your life worth?! #PowerofOneMore #EdMylett #Maxout

2 things can help....adopt a dog that has alot of energy...take that dog on long walks all over the place. Promise that will help you! Puts your focus on the dog at first because you have to meet the dogs basic needs, after awhile you begin to enjoy the opportunity to go on walks and getting more excerise for your own benefits. Dogs give unconditional love, you can talk to that dog and let yourself ramble all you want and he's still gonna be your friend! Horses work the same way but are not for everyone, expensive and pretty dangerous. Stick with the dog and try to find someone with a good horse you can spend some time around. There's a quote that says, the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man. It's true!! Good luck my friend!!
