    Be careful when looking for sugar free products. Read the ingredients list carefully. Companies use many different types of words for sugar. Often things that say they're "sugar free" aren't. Dextrose, Sucrose, (basically any word that ends in "ose") corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, barley malt, brown rice syrup (pretty much any syrup) molasses, etc. These are all different kinds of added sugar.

    • @emmetgin6864
      @emmetgin6864 3 года назад +56

      “Sugar free” refers to sugar substitutes that have significantly less calories than sugar based sweetners. “Sugar free” never meant it’s free of all sugars. There’s a difference between “sugar free”, “no added sugar” and “unsweetened”.

    • @kaylee.w6970
      @kaylee.w6970 3 года назад +14

      @@emmetgin6864 I'm not sure about that. Even some that say "no added sugar" contain some kind of added sugar. And sugar free to me means: No added sugar or sweeteners. But what do I know, I'm not a health expert or dietitian. You should just educate yourself and read the ingredients list, then decide for yourself whether or not it's ok for you to eat.

    • @emmetgin6864
      @emmetgin6864 3 года назад +17

      Kaylee.w What you’re talking about is “Unsweetened” not “Sugar free”. You can’t have a subjective take on what “Sugar free”means, it’s a label already determined by the FDA. It’s the consumers responsibility to be educated on such terms and their differences and make informed decisions. It’s this sort of ignorance and fallacy’s manufacturers prey on with their marketing.

    • @emmetgin6864
      @emmetgin6864 3 года назад +16

      Again, that’s not what “no added sugar” means. For instance, orange juice already has natural sugars. “No added sugar” means you haven’t manually introduced any additional amount of sugar to the product that it naturally did not have. It never meant that there is no sugar.

    • @kaylee.w6970
      @kaylee.w6970 3 года назад +4

      @@emmetgin6864 I just meant that it's up to other people to decide what sugars they cut out of their diet. I cut out everything except for honey. Others might do it differently. All I was saying was that there's different names for sugar, and that you should know them and decide for yourself whether or not you want to eat it. As for the orange juice, I never said it did contain added sugar or that sugar free, no added sugar, etc, meant that there wasn't any sugar at all. I think we're misunderstanding each other. Either way, there's really no point in arguing about it.

    Hi everyone
    So I am currently living without refined sugar for now almost years. I feel like now a day’s there are more alternatives, like for example foods that are sweetened with dates or coconut sugar which are more healthier options, so I can still have my piece of chocolate if I want. ;)
    But one thing that was shocking to me was how my taste started to change. Now to be honest I can’t stand the taste of a snickers bar or cake because it’s just to sweet and overpowering in its flavor and otherwise foods like carrots, fruits and even really dark chocolate (99%) taste sweet to me.
    You have to do a lot of research and inform yourself about the pros and cons of sugar and its use in the food industry to make it more approachable in an very day life but once you built this habit it really changes your life and the way you see food :)

      If you're trying to avoid cavities, brushing and dental hygiene is really important too. Dried fruit is natural sugars but actually harder on your teeth than gummy bears because they stick to your teeth and have fibrous bits that can linger between your teeth or in your mouth for a quite a while, whilst gummy bears dissolve really quickly. Those "sugar bugs" that convert your mouth leftovers into the acid that damages your teeth will have longer to make more acid if you've got raisin glop stuck in your molars. Cavities!
      Not to say gummy bears are a better choice nutritionally, or that gummy bears won't give you cavities so have as many as you like, just that there's more that goes into cavities than just "processed sugar bad"!

    Wants to eat sugar-free, ends up eating fruit and veg like green peas and carrots.
    What you might have wanted to avoid was added sugar, or even just refined sugar - in which case you could've eaten a lot more foods that just happen to have a natural amount of sugar in them, much like a lot of the stuff you've actually been eating this week.
    You didn't quit sugar, not even almost - you merely cut back on sugar. If you actually wanted to cut out sugar completely your diet would basically have to boil down to fish and meat.

    Cause the pasta you got has specific instructions on how you can cook them. Cause it’s not really pasta. It’s “pasta”made from glucomannan.
    You drain the liquid, you washed them with water and vinegar then again with water and the last step is to cook them in the sauce or with anything else you want so they can absorb the flavor.

    Are you trying to quit sugar altogether or just added (processed) sugars? Most foods have natural sugars in it, and it's not necessarily bad for you.
    If you're trying to cut added sugars, that's totally doable! You'll be fine eating regular pasta or bakery-made bread. For chocolate, the only option that makes sense is erythritol (which tastes really bad in my opinion), but you can always cook your own sweets with dates, cacao, and etc.

Either eat all carbs or none at all, high fat or none at all, completely no sugar, cut out all junk food and eat 100% whole foods 24/7 etc. But really is if you eat everything in moderation and follow a well balanced diet (more whole foods with sweets and other junk food in moderation) you’ll be fine. Same goes with sugar and sweeteners.

    Does anyone know if those cookies are actually sugar free? Because the ingredients on the website say “unrefined cane sugar” is the 3rd ingredient (plus regular cane sugar in the chocolate chips).
    From the Planet Organic site:
    Ingredients: Brown rice flour*, tapioca flour*, unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa powder*, chocolate chips (cane sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring), gluten-free oats, milled flaxseed, chicory extract (2%), raising agent (bicarbonate of soda), salt. *Ingredient from organic agriculture.

    You don’t need to completely eliminate sugar from your diet. What’s important is that you clean your teeth twice a day and floss. I can’t emphasise how important it is to floss your teeth and visit your dentist for a professional annual cleaning.The plaque, which is a biofilm that forms on your teeth, is the culprit and the bacteria in there can cause tooth decay and even in some cases gum disease. I suggest you invest in a proper toothbrush and use tooth floss every single day. There are illustrations of brushing techniques which you can find online, but I’m sure you already know☺️

    My teeth five me the same issue here is what I changed and seems to be helping.
    1. Get a toothpaste with novamin, that's sensodyne.
    2. Use a fluoride mouthwash. I use act with 0.05% fluoride.
    3. After brushing(for 2min!) do not slosh water around in your mouth. Just quickly rinse out the excess tooth paste, if you slosh water around you remove the flouride. If you remove it, nothing will be there to protect your teeth. Rinse after with mouthwash and do not drink water or eat for 30min. In the morning, brush and a use mouthwash after breakfast. Then set a timer on your phone and don't drink (no water either) or eat for 30 min. Same reason, give flouride and novamin time to do their job.
    4. Floss at least once a day.
    This has helped me be cavity free for two years and this never ever happened before. Hope it helps @clickfortaz. Or someone else out there. 😘

    For breakfast you could eat omelette, fresh fruit, porridge with a sugar free plant milk, mix in fresh or dried fruit for sweetness.
    Lunch/dinner you could eat any protein meat/tofu/lentils with rice flavoured with spices and veggies on the side.
    Use things like herbs, spices and lemon or lime juice to flavour things. 😊

    It’s nearly impossible to cut out all sugar completely. I think a lot of people get confused because “sugar” is a very broad term, there’s naturally occurring sugars (fructose, lactose, and glucose) within the complex carbohydrates in fruits, vegetables, dairy, and whole grains which aren’t the same thing as the added sugars (like granulated sugar and syrups etc) in processed foods and it’s not a good idea to cut these out of your diet as they contain lots of essential nutrients we need.
    When people talk about cutting out sugars, they’re usually referring to added/refined sugars but when you’re reading labels on packaging it can be really hard to know where the sugars are coming from and it can be quite misleading.

    I am a lifelong diabetic and a rule of thumb to use with regards to sugar is that it should be beyond the fifth ingredient in the ingredients list to be healthier

    Natural sugars are fine; fruits, etc. It’s the processed sugars which are bad for you when taken excessively. You can’t completely cut out sugar as everything has a bit of it for taste and preservation purposes.
    Also, just because it says ‘sugar free’ does not mean it is completely void of sugar either. They just use replacements, which I suppose will help with plaque on your teeth but is not a big difference for your body tbh.

    👍. There's a book called 'Lick the Sugar Habit' by Nancy Appleton that might help you strengthen your resolve. I've gone several days at a time without sugar, but honestly it was too restrictive. My suggestion is moderation, after a period of reduction of or elimination of sugar. If you are aware of sugar in things like ketchup, some brands of pasta sauce, salad dressing, and you want to eliminate all refined sugar from your diet, you can, but unless those things are going push you back into eating sweets and desserts, it's really not necessary as long as you don't eat things like cake, cookies, desserts, quickbreads, certain brands of granola bars, cereals, muffins, and most fruit juice.
    Unrefined sugar is unfiltered honey, fruit, corn, sweet potatoes, but they all have nutritional value (but you still shouldn't eat honey if you're giving up sugar.)
