    Any time I get a new-to-me retro console or old radio or any other thing that may have spent time in an attic or shed or other grungy place, I bag it up and leave it in the freezer overnight. ESPECIALLY old vacuum tube radios. Not only does that kill any and all bugs that might be in there, it also goes a very long way towards killing bad smells and loosens nasty stubborn dirt.

      And that doesn’t pose a risk to any of the components in the devices?

    • @VanderSysDavid
      @VanderSysDavid Месяц назад +4

      @@StealthyZombie Not really. Condensation can occur when you first take the console out of the freezer, but wrapping it in a plastic bag before you put it in the freezer really reduces that. You still want to let it sit and "thaw" for a few hours to make good and sure any condensation has evaporated before you start messing with it, but I've never had anything bad happen from doing that.

    • @Dargonhuman
      @Dargonhuman 28 дней назад

      @@VanderSysDavid I want to add that the bag is a critical part to protecting the electronic device if your freezer has an ice maker in it. My freezer does, and when it makes new ice to refill the hopper, everything gets a fine layer of frost crystals on it for a few days until the freezer can remove it.

    • @SeekerGoldstone
      @SeekerGoldstone 28 дней назад +1

      @@VanderSysDavidI feel the need to add to that. Any device with moving parts (disc tray, harddrive, flexible latches etc) MUST be warmed to room temperature before operation.
      When you freeze them, parts of different materials contract at different rates... so pieces that are supposed to fit together are no longer the same size. It's very easy to break components through normal operation if it's too cold.

    I used to work at a repair center for Geek Squad and the stores would send us roach computers from time to time, usually from Florida. We weren't supposed to work on them if there were any visible signs of infestation, but sometimes they had been "cleaned" inside. They all had the telltale roach smell though. The roaches liked to get inside the power supply and eat the wires inside. If you looked up the customer's prior service orders they would usually have a long history of specifically power supply replacements across multiple computers.

It looks like something, that if I saw it as a kid, I would want for the rest of my life, but my mom wouldn’t get it for me because it was probably too expensive and then by the time I had the money to get it on my own, it would be obsolete. But as a PlayStation kid, I’m immune. 😂

With the amount of brown gunk on those Wiis and 360s, I'd hate to see what the rest of their houses look like. We did get hit with a roach-filled 360 one time, I'm pretty sure my manager took it outside and destroyed it with an orbital strike.

Just the other day when I was looking up games I missed out on as a kid I came across 'Revelations: The Demon Slayer' for the Gameboy and then noticed a lot of games for that handheld had the shiny strip on the side. Because there is a major difference between trading something in and trying to sell something to someone. Stores that take trade ins tend to streamline the process, hence why in most cases you don't even get 50% of the items actual value. While selling on FB would force you to be responsible for the price, the condition, the sale etc.. I would never in 10000 years open up a console to clean it before trading it in for 20 cents on the dollar... What a waste of time.

    We once had a father and son come in with a bag of NES stuff to sell. I opened it up and it was absolutely filthy stuff, but we could clean it and refurbish it, so I had a look. I pulled out two gross controllers and then pulled out a copy of NES open and when I did, cockroaches started to run up my hand. I was able to flick them off into the bag, tie it up super tight, drop it into a bag I had on hand and tie that up and hand it back to them. They were very upset in how I reacted, as they acted like this was totally normal for them. I politely, yet firmly explained we do not take roach infested items and to please not come back again. I never sprayed Lysol spray directly onto my skin before, but I did and bathed my hands and arms in it like my life depended on it.
    For a few days afterwards I kept thinking I could see roaches on the counter out of the corner of my eye and I would freak out.

    To answer your question about the MISSING POWER CABLES...Microsoft changed their power cable designs several times during the lifespan of the Xbox 360, but the later redesigns weren't backwards compatible with the original faceplate-style consoles. Plus, these early systems bricked often, and many gamers chose to upgrade to the newer Slim series because it included native HDMI support. As a result, many folks tossed their old cables because they didn't think they needed two sets of cables. Plus, they assumed their newer cables were compatible with the first-generation unit (only to discover that this wasn't the case). As a result, many first generation 360s are missing their cables.
    You're welcome. 😎

He claimed he had bought it from that store new as well....anyway he asked how much he would get. The woman serving him asked if he had the controller and he said no...well CEX only buy in consoles with a controller. So she told him "if you had the controller we could give you 45 quid credit but as you don't have one we would have to charge you 5 quid to take it" I nearly burst out laughing. I've never seen someone get charged for a trade in. He didn't accept but honestly I don't think the woman wanted to take it in.

    Jay is great (hope I said that right?).
    Roach eggs travel, don't Floridians call them Palmetto bugs, neat name doesn't make them nicer.

    As a fellow game store owner I can confirm that people bring in roach infested stuff and get mad when you won't take them. WTF is wrong with people?

    the reason that you never get a HD-DVD player with the power cord is because when you spend 200 dollars and the only useful thing in the box is the 12-volt barrel jack adapter , well you're at least gonna keep the cord before you throw the rest out, it might come in handy, and you did pay 200 dollar for it.
    ALSO, do you have a website? if you do you should put it in your desriptions. I need an OG xbox s-type controller like the one you just panned over in the controller box., and a replacement break away console connection for the one i already have and dont want to deal with ebay
