Damn, this was the first rogue tier list I’ve watched in a long time where every pick you made I was shouting “yes, I wholeheartedly agree with this pick”… UNTIL… Nuclear Throne got tossed into the garbage can of C tier. As someone that has spent an unholy amount of time playing rogue’s and has played pretty much every game on this list, Nuclear Throne is a stone cold “S”. I beg of you to give it another go. Like Isaac where a lot of people are put off by the gore, I feel like a lot of people disregard Nuclear Throne because it initially looks and feels janky compared to newer games in the genre. But, the secrets, the nuance and the gunplay are genuinely unrivalled in the genre. Tl;dr. Give it another shot, nuclear throne is S
I'd recommend trying out: SYNTHETIK (1 & 2), Moonring, Feed the Deep, SULFUR, PlateUp!, Ballionaire... For two games that you definitely haven't heard of, first, I recommend Space Beast Terror Fright that, IMO, does something niche but does it obscenely well. Secondly, overlooked for the same reasons as Against the Storm, Circle Empires Rivals (no reason to play the original) - one of my all-time favorites.
I recommend checking out "The Last Spell" not sure why it's no longer tagged as Rogue-like/lite as I think it was tagged as such before same as Don't Starve.
You should try BPM: bullets per minute. It's a roguelike first person shooter game based around rhythm. Most actions, like shooting, dodging, reloading and using abilities can only be done to the beat of the music. It's a really unique concept, and is incredibly difficult at first, but it feels so satisfying and rewarding to master.
I have 1000+ hours in Gunfire Reborn and it is A tier solo and S tier in co-op. The fact you can share roguelike decisions with team mates (trade guns/scrolls etc) on a run and combine skills etc while having excellent gunplay it managed to stay fresh way longer than most games do. The developers also bring out sizeable updates and add new mechanics/seasons meaning it is always worth a revisit when patches come out for another 100-200 hours. Best played with friends though for sure. Woefully underrated game.
Great list, it was engaging to watch. I notice Sifu is not on your list. It's not like most of them here, but it's got phenomenal combat, and decent roguelite mechanics. Definitely recommend checking it out.
Oh man you should definitely try out Across the Obelisk! It’s an S-tier in my book, one of the very best card-based roguelike out there, albeit on longer runs (2-3h for full runs) than some of the more popular alternatives. But the combat system is so engaging, it’s a blast.
Agree with the list overall, as expected from this channel, always quality. I'd add Roguebook to the list, it's pretty good. It tries to iterate on Slay the Spire's deck building, and has some of Monster Train's cute aesthetic. I'd put it in A on your list.
I'm late to the party, I'm just discovering Hades and needless to say I'm hooked on the game and the genre as a whole. I was looking for some tips for Hades and came across your channel. Awesome channel, guides, and tier list. Thanks for these! Once I'm done with Hades I'll be trying out Balatro and Inscryption.
I second playing Roguebook as mentioned by someone earlier. It is missing something that i can't quite put my finger on, but overall pretty solid. Your taste in games is very similar to my own and I feel my tier list would closely mirror yours. One more game I'll put on your radar, unless I missed you mentioning it, is Dungeon Clawer, it's in early access and a bit raw but pretty engaging.
Notable miss: Inkbound (from the makers of Monster Train) cool setting really interesting mechanics and really smart take on multiplayer simulaneous turn base. Single player is also very good
Thanks for the recommendations! I've played into the breach but didn't care for it as much as some of the others. Haven't played the other ones you mentioned
Spelunky is one of the most refined games in the list and in my opinion should be S tier - the difference with most other games is that YOU are the one that will improve over time, instead of relying in better loot or cheap power ups. You need to have more patience with it and it will be really rewarding.
I'm not super good at roguelike or roguelites, but 1 that I played a lot of and enjoyed was neuroVoider. Top down twin stick shooter where u play as a robot and u collect coin to get awesome upgrades to your robot. Sound track is great too
You should play Crying Suns, it is criminally underrated, it is heavily inspired on ftl but with a different battle system. I consider it a great hidden gem
A couple lesser known roguelikes i'd suggest; A Robot Named Fight - if super metroid was a roguelike Atomicrops - farming sim meets bullet hell twinstick shooter Trinity fusion - similar to dead cells but easier and more of a story.
Great vid Totally agree on StS, inscryption and ofc Hades. Been meaning to pick up risk of rain 2 for a while, will give it a try Cool to see monster train on here, I enjoyed that Been playing a fair bit of dicey dungeons this year, it's less luck-based than I feared and a lot of fun - but much harder than I thought it would be. Recommend!
JAWLESS PAUL! Please try out Astral Ascent. Please. It is like a mix between Hades and Dead Cells. It is extremely well made and about as long as Hades (maybe a little shorter). Also Risk of Rain 2 is one of my favorites. I just took the time to unlock everything and once you do that, it becomes so much fun to play after you learn everything.
Not coming til next year, but what do you think of Elden Ring Nightreign and them adding rogue-like elements to it? It's getting very mixed reactions in the Elden Ring community, but I personally am looking forward to it and seeing if they can pull off the gameplay loop.
Oh man, you should've try "Lucky Tower Ultimate" before you drop this video. Anyway, it's a pretty accourate list, personally Against The Storm is my absolute favourite, while Lucky Tower Ultimate is definitely belongs to 2nd place with it's unique gameplay. (Undermine would make atleast A tier)
Agree with a lot of this. Feel the same about bumbo. Loved Isaac since flash but didn’t click with me. Also neon abyss is fine but always just gets me back on Isaac. Also I wish I could play returnal but I’m only on Xbox
@@JawlessPaul I have a gaming laptop so I can play low requirement stuff like FTL up to like hades, might have to upgrade for returnal. Also not sure if you’ve ever seen Void War, but it’s a new FTL clone that’s set in a warhammer 40k type universe. It has some cool new mechanics and a new focus on boarding and items for your crew, but otherwise you don’t even need a tutorial bc it’s just FTL. Some people are calling it a ripoff but form what I’ve seen the FTL diehards are stoked about it bc it’s essentially just more FTL, and that games old and only has mod support these days anyway
Cult of the Lamb was so disappointing. The demo blew me away with the gameplay, and then the full game is more city management with very little gameplay. They completely missed the mark IMO with something special.
Yeah, I struggled with that one. It probably belongs somewhere between A and B for me. It was super fun when I played co-op, but as I mentioned at another point in the video, I don't often play roguelikes co-op, so it didn't have that spark for me. Still, there are a lot of very good games in B. What would you have rated it?
Let me know what you think of the list! Give me your roguelike recommendations if I didn't mention it here!

definitely check out The Void Rains Upon Her Heart.

DotAge is another city builder with different mechanics

Looks intriguing! I didn't expect to get so many new games to put on my steam wishlist! 😅

I feel like tons of people praise Gunfire reborn. I like it pretty well!

I will! Epic games is giving it away today!
I recently got into roguelikes and I’ve been having a lot of fun. I have Balatro, Isaac, brotato and slay the spire.
I'd pick up Hades too! One of the best!
Oh man you should definitely try out Across the Obelisk! It’s an S-tier in my book, one of the very best card-based roguelike out there, albeit on longer runs (2-3h for full runs) than some of the more popular alternatives. But the combat system is so engaging, it’s a blast.

LOL, it looks crazy!
Notable miss: Inkbound (from the makers of Monster Train) cool setting really interesting mechanics and really smart take on multiplayer simulaneous turn base. Single player is also very good
I should really give it a try!
I highly recommend Into the Breach, Heat Signature, Streets of Rogue, Jupiter Hell, Slice ad Dice, Tiny Rogues, and SOVL.
Thanks for the recommendations! I've played into the breach but didn't care for it as much as some of the others. Haven't played the other ones you mentioned
Thank you for the list!
You are welcome!
You missed out Caves of Qud. It’s an absolute gem.
A fan of Sssseth?
I've heard good things about that one!

I believe that! I know a lot of people really enjoyed it. It just wasn't for me... At least not yet!

A couple lesser known roguelikes i'd suggest;
A Robot Named Fight - if super metroid was a roguelike
Atomicrops - farming sim meets bullet hell twinstick shooter
Trinity fusion - similar to dead cells but easier and more of a story.
Haven't heard of those. I have gotten so many roguelike suggestions from this!
Have u tried windblown yet? Its motion twins newest roguelike and its good but doesn't have that much content yet
Yes I have!
Glad to hear someone else loved Dead Cells but struggled with the difficulty. Those curses get me.
Totally! Super fun game though
I'll have to finish this later.
It's still in early access, but Emberward cracked my top 5 in playtime this year. Rogue-like tower defense
Whoah, Emberward looks really cool!
Great vid
Totally agree on StS, inscryption and ofc Hades. Been meaning to pick up risk of rain 2 for a while, will give it a try
Cool to see monster train on here, I enjoyed that
Been playing a fair bit of dicey dungeons this year, it's less luck-based than I feared and a lot of fun - but much harder than I thought it would be. Recommend!
I'd love to try Dicey Dungeons in 2025. I remember watching northernlion play it when it came out and it looked super cool

Yes I played Astral Ascent! I added it to the list at the end of the video
"Perhaps you have heard of Hades!" - Understatement of the year. 😆 Love that game.
Haha, same!
Look into Vault of the Void. I'd put it in the top tier of card-rogues with Slay the Spire and Monster Train.
Sounds cool! I'll check it out
i loved rogue legacy 1 in fact i wish i was playin it right now very solid list thanks jawless
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, Rogue Legacy 1 was one of my first roguelikes as well!
The 2nd one is even better if you enjoy 1
Not coming til next year, but what do you think of Elden Ring Nightreign and them adding rogue-like elements to it?
It's getting very mixed reactions in the Elden Ring community, but I personally am looking forward to it and seeing if they can pull off the gameplay loop.
Sounds interesting but I don't know how it will work...
It may be in early access and hasn't been out long, but Windblown, easy S tier!
I agree. Windblown is great
Haha, yeah, I've been enjoying Windblown as well!
I got the popcorn ready for this!
Haha! It was fun to think about all these games! I hope it met your expectations! 😅
Ooooh... let's have it! 💪🔥
Hope it met your expectations Mr. BednaR!
Surprised that Undermine didnt make it to the list
I never tried that one! It seemed like it was pretty good though! I just realized I forgot about moonlighter too! Gasp!
You kinda broke my heart by not putting crown trick in S tier, such an unique underrated game
Haha it's pretty great but not exactly for me
Nuclear Thonre is S tier once you understand the beauty of it, its what got me into rogue, it's above Dungeon for many
I didn't play it as much as I should have 😊
Oh man, you should've try "Lucky Tower Ultimate" before you drop this video.
Anyway, it's a pretty accourate list, personally Against The Storm is my absolute favourite, while Lucky Tower Ultimate is definitely belongs to 2nd place with it's unique gameplay.
(Undermine would make atleast A tier)
Good stuff! I know I need to try undermine!
The ONLY tier list I need
Haha! Yes!
Spelunky 2 and splintered fate deserve to be A tier for good coop
Ooh never did Spelunky coop
Hey JP, I know it's still in early access but where do you think Windblown will fall for you on this tier list?
Hard to say, but it seems really good so far. Very polished and feels great!
"You should try "Wall World
I'll check it out!
Streets of Rogue and Barony are top tier for me!
I should check those out!
Next, tier list of your tier list videos?
Whoah, that would be so meta! 🤣
Witchfire is an awesome game, still in early access but great!
I agree! I've been playing it a ton!
Agree with a lot of this. Feel the same about bumbo. Loved Isaac since flash but didn’t click with me. Also neon abyss is fine but always just gets me back on Isaac. Also I wish I could play returnal but I’m only on Xbox

Woa putting Spelunky and Spelunky 2 in B tier is a typical skill issue
No doubt! 😂
I seriously thought you'd give TLOU2Remastered a try now it has a rougelike element but then again I am still playing Hades
Haha, yeah I haven't played that one yet. I've heard good things about TLOU, but it's a bit spendy for me 😅
Have you ever played Rogue's Tale?
Never! Is it good?
@@JawlessPaul It's got a steep learning curve but pretty fun.
@@JawlessPaul Would love to see a review / thoughts on it.
RogueLite no Roguelike in this vid!
Cool yo!
Roguelites
Indeed!
no rogue lineage is insane bro
Roblox game?
My favorite of all time is rogue legacy
It's an amazing game!
No Brotato?
Nah, I was avoiding survivor likes
Am I the only one that doesn't consider Darkest Dungeon a roguelike?
It's more like xcom really.
I can see that. It feels a bit roguelike ish though and is commonly referred as one
You missed tmnt splintered fate!
Gotta watch till the end! I added a couple that I had forgotten 😁
Cult of the Lamb was so disappointing. The demo blew me away with the gameplay, and then the full game is more city management with very little gameplay. They completely missed the mark IMO with something special.
Yeah, it didn't land for me either
Shiren
Never heard of that one. What's it like?
Trinity Fusion?
Crazy! It is in my steam library, but I haven't played it much. I'll give it another try!
@ I think you could have a few good, fun streams with it!
Ravenswatch B? Really?
Yeah, I struggled with that one. It probably belongs somewhere between A and B for me. Tiny Rogues!
It's on my list!
I wonder if anyone knows ADOM :)
I looked it up. Very interesting looking game! Cheers!
wheres witchfire?
Witchfire is early access
youre early access
Love Witchfire! I feel like it fits the roguelike genre pretty well, just doesn't have the "randomized" aspect to it.
@ witchfire is great I’m looking forward to playing more of it
16:28 Enter the Gungeon. It should be on it's own tier.
Haha, fair!
Roboquest
Looks very cool and has such good reviews!
