I don't own the rights I just want to promote my favourite artist. Go buy his stuff.
An EXCELLENT version of this song! Todd was hating being a 'singles' artist, but sure glad he did this one.
Great song indeed
In a perfect (Todd) world, this would have went straight up to #1. Magnificent !
Glad you like it
It is a perfect Todd world. You already know that. 🤙
always got a kick out of Todd only being listed on the playboy poll under keyboards as opposed to being one of the greatest guitarists ever.
@@chuckjann1714 😀
Very unique to hear it this stripped down live as opposed to the Initiation studio production ! Todd on the Wurlie keys, Powell with early synth sounds, Seigler time signature with Willie always solid & true soul vocal backup. Sweet ! ...
Yes , more plain, more basic
This version has more soul. Better drum sound too.
This was a really fertile, transitional period, 'proto Utopia' to soon become the longest lasting Utopia, the Kas period.
Todd is the greatest. One of his many many many brilliant songs. A lotta soul on that stage...
Yeah that's right!
Todd...always an original unique talent...
He sure is
Todd is like american David Bowie....... always loved his music
Only less chameleon like.
@ not really...... Todd is more pop-oriented than Bowie, but Todd was always combining different genres with different productions...... Todd also writes some pretty experimental stuff like Bowie...... the two sound completely different offcourse, but the approach to songwriting is very similar for both of them
Very talented man. So glad I grew up with his music from day one.
Nazz, Nazz Nazz

A Wizard, a True Star & a Real Man!!
yes he is
Initiation is such a great album. My favourite Todd song (actually a tie with Torch Song) is Fair warning and I love the way it morphs back into Real Man at the end.
I love both songs also, i'm a ballad man.
@ It's in his ballads that his lyrics and melodies are most profound.
@ It's in his ballads that his lyrics and melodies are most profound.
You tube fair warning for a great video from todds movie
@@dalenelson7161 Thanks I will! edit: Just got back from watching it - what a treat!
I have all his stuff. Me and Todd go way, way back.
I also have all of his stuff.
Luther Vandross on background vocals.
that's right.
@ Damn, I miss Luther, what a voice, background, eventually made it "up front".. Love his endeavors..what a God given voice . Even in the Bowie days( look into he rare recordings)
👌😎♥️
@@michellerjackson5776 Yes he had a great voice.
all the vocals sound amazing!
Wait.....what....how kewl is that...
They only live to criticize.....Todd was ahead of the times and really did nt give a hoot!!....Genius.....I really like his old space suit with all the spikes on it.....lol.....and I dont think he ever really grew up either......Rock on Todd!!!

Let's also hear it for the BBC. Outstanding technical quality for its day
What a fantastic lineup! Todd, Roger, Willie, John, Luther, and. . . .
that other guy that will always be remembered as the other guy.
Anthony Hamilton
REAL MUSIC 👍😊
So cool to see Roger playing the RMI Keyboard Computer, with the Moog on the side. And Luther!
Yes, great setup!
Initiation was my first Todd's album....and...Real Man is one of the greatest Todd's song...😊✌
it's a classic
Can you imagine that I am teaching my granddaughter your tunes? She loves it at 6 !!!
Keep up the good work!
Too cool. Old Grey Whistle has the grooviest stuff!!!! Love this and early Priest, too!
Wish i could go bsck to the 70s /Things were so much more fun ,and simple 🎬
Please don't get sentimental ;-)
Great performance. What a bad. Never understood why Todd was never more famous. You don't see many with that much talent in one place.
He's a genius
Did anyone notice Luther Vandross?
Anyone who loves music noticed him
Hey I see him. I see him too!!! Luther Vandross. Wow!! Nobody said anything. I stumbled on this video after watching the Isley Brothers sing a song Todd wrote and sung , Hello, It's me. I didn't know that either. Todd is a musical genius, way ahead of his time!!!
I think you've right about Luther, but what was he doing in London? I worked as a Secretary at BBC Television in London in the 60's and 70's, and one of my offices was just down the stairs from that small studio (one of two) where we see Todd. They were previously used for Presentation. They did "Old Grey Whistle Test" there, late in the evening, after we'd all gone home, but we watched it on TV later . We weren't encouraged to loiter at Television Centre, unless we were going to see an evening show in one of the larger 7-8 studios downstairs. I discovered two other smallish studios in a building called Richmond House. I'll try to find a date for the episode shown here. J.H.
Vandross joined Utopia in September 1975. This is from the UK tour later that year...
Warped Passage. Thanks! Just seen your reply. Although I heard 2-3 of Todd's records in the 70's, I actually never saw him on any programme or at any concert & I missed that Old Grey Whistle Test. He's a complete mystery to me. Now I'm catching up & can see what I missed. There's an advert on TV here, playing, "I Saw The Light", sparking new interest. In one episode of OGWT (just found), Bob Harris & crew went to the Bearsville Picnic, USA. They quickly found clever Todd on his computer, but didn't seem so interested in his music. BBC Engineers are very clever and quick to copy. Todd reminds me a little of the deceased Bill Withers - so much talent. Like Bill (to us), he suddenly disappeared. He should have toured Britain & Europe more and written more ballards. I'm going to try and draw more attention to his work. I will keep you posted. J. H.
I love this song! Particularly, I am excited about the introduction beautifully.
Yes Todd playing a Wurlitzer
This song's so classic and priceless.
Indeed it is
Hell Any Todd makes me happy
Your at the right address
Btw- if you see this in 2020 (November 17) to be exact 😉 Thank you again, for this MOST UPLIFTING post! Be happy and well

VOTE FOR TODD!! ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME 2021
Todd is Godd.
Amen
Still turning out great albums today brilliant artist all round musician great ballards and rock songs great live 👍
absolutely!
My favourite version of this is still the Initiation original because it sounds so motown.
Sounds legit
So perfect. I love the interaction from the band to the back up soul singers.
Another WONDERFUL GEM~ Bless you , Cliche~matic!
Thanx
Amazing!! I loved Todd since the early seventies. I finally got the chance to see him last week in Atlanta. Unbelievable performance! Some 50 years later and I still love his incredible catalog, Talent, Charisma, uniqueness and Stage presence!
he's good
I jumped on the ‘Todd/ Utopia’ bandwagon in 1979, when a friend of mine introduced me to his music- I saw the ‘Adventures in Utopia’ tour in 1980, and later in 1985, the ‘POV’ tour, and then Todd’s ‘A Capella’ tour. I have also seen him at a computer fair in Chicago, where he demonstrated the Fairlight CMI, which he used on ‘A Capella’. The last time I saw him in concert was in 2015 on the ‘World’ tour, where I had bought stage-side tickets. I have posted video of portions of that concert on RUclips. I really wish I could have seen his ‘Healing’ concert in 2013!
The back up singer on the left has so much poise. He sings with pride. Love watching him. This is IMO Todd's greatest song. Love the lyrics.
The backup singer on the right is Luther Vandross.
This and Hall&Oates on the Whistle Test are great recordings from that era
This one is also not to bad ruclips.net/video/yOPlvRkfJTU/видео.html
Fabulous in every way. Thank you!

Home Run, this one!
Bullseye!
RIP Luther Vandross ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Fm radio used to play this a lot -not anymore
Todds freaking awesome! Nuff said
Early version of Real Man sounds good. Also like his playing synthesizer not swinging a microphone.
Yes this is a very nice version
It’s a Wurlitzer electric piano
@@ChrisWhittenMusic I stand corrected. Thanks for letting me know.
Great

Love this performance.
great!
Excellent!
it is
I don't think Lennon or McCartney ever wrote a song this great in their solo years. A truly great Todd classic.
Imagine?
@ Nope, overrated song.
😂😂😂
Great upload - haven't seen this one before. The video and sound quality is fantastic. Genius communication between harmonies in this song as well.
Glad you like it!
Thanks.....Authored to DVD by us...we had the master from BBC Worldwide. Not sure what that TV set is doing round it though...bit pony that.
Like that early version
me too
Great upload my friend.
Thanx Geoff
Nice!!!!!!!! Love the last chord.
Wow…. Never saw this on the Whistle Test at the time (UK version of Midnight Special). Saw him play this live at Knebworth supporting The Stones though…
Glad you can see it here

Boy Howdy that was a treat...and cliche you make me laff, thanks for u toobin !!

I don't like it, I love it, thanks again !!
Great stuff!
There is so much more
Awesome ... thank you!!!!
Glad you like it
Thank you.❤️
your welcome
@Todd Rundgren I don’t know who you are or why you are doing this, but you are Not Todd.
Great song, Upper Darby's own. Could be his best song along with "We Gotta Get you a Woman" and "It wouldn't have made any Difference"
A Dream Goes On Forever, Sweeter Memories and Real Man are three of my most favorites. Legendary artist. I love Todd.
@@clownprince0801 I like two , don't know Sweeter Memories but We Gotta Get You a Woman has to be in the top 3.
@@clownprince0801 I don't like Sweeter Memories at all. I like Love is the Answer would be in my top 3.
@@oppothumbs1 Yeah, that's an awesome song too.
This is one of my other favorites on ‘Initiation’
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing this.
Nice!
Thank u.
Geen dank!

Willie Wilcox
Luther was everywhere.
yes he was
Do you have seven rays also. Nice 1 CM
sure ruclips.net/video/rQRuCtrxau0/видео.html
his hair looks extra soft in this performance
Hairdresser?
It was the Creme Rinse ;-)
I think he uses Timotei.
👍 Todd's hair was always healthy. 🙌
Yoiks! Too much treble/upper mid on the bass. Was it Mr Siegler's amp or the studio engineer?
It is the mixing desk output, and line out from the amp. Good defenition though
@ Sounds to me like the audio was likely engineered for small television speakers, and the mixing desk output could be different than what was broadcast, like a monitor mix, but sounds good to me nonetheless. I appreciate the post!
@@MrGone-bw6bk Glad you like it!
Is that Tony Sales on bass? Very nice recording!
No it's John Siegler
John Seigler on bass.....
And a horrible mix of John Sigler’s bass. It’s a shame - his playing is so good. Too heavy on the treble. Still, a great performance.
I LOVED Todd when he was skinny. Even though he is still thin, it's obvious that he's gained a good amount of poundage, especially around the stomach area!! Sorry Todd!!
It's the age
Who is on keyboards? Not moogy ?
Roger Powell
the yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah garbage adds nothing to the chorus and it subtracts a lot from the tune.
Beautiful Ugly
I guess you like it
This is great but Todd's studio and other versions are a little better. Manifold reasons. Too funky for me and i like very little funk. Maybe a song like Tyrone Davis' Can i Change my Mind uses funk well but i just hate funk .. ruined a lot of 70s songs.
Funny that you call this funky, I love funk but this ain't it
@ No this isn't pure funk just a little bit of white man's funk.
Ay. Yet another self proclaimed music critic. One from the funky police yet. Pls put your playing up so we can see how you get it correct. Ty.
Like anyone cares! Its pure Todd..
Awesome!!! John Siegler on amazing Bass; Roger Powell on Keyboards and Synth; "Willie" Wilcox on Drums; Luther Vandross on BG Vocals! Not sure who the gal is(?)
Sounds like John snuck into the Live Booth and turned-up the Bass for Broadcast!!!
Glad you like it
Yeah the bass rips in this performance, real old school Ohio Players, Cool and the Gang style.
