I grew up listening to him, he was my mummas favourite, she s in the last stage of dementia , but when we play Mr Neil Diamond , she springs to life for the moment. ❤ his voice 🙌❤ just stunning
Neil Diamond song to me is a love affair between himself and his guitar he woke up to find that lying beside his bed and as the lyrics go you are the words I am the tune play me but the car is telling him the guitar is the tune he's got the lyrics now play it
I love this song! It’s always been one of my favorites. And you’re right, it’s soothing and mellow and just makes you feel good. I’m glad you liked it, thanks for playing it for me! ❤️
This man should be considered the 20th Century's Poet of Poets! This song is a fine example of why. His lyrics are beautiful and convey so much meaning beyond their mere surface use. He paints word pictures, tells stories, and sings about things everyone can relate to. His fearlessness in vulnerability is brave and he has given us so many incredible songs over so many decades. What an amazing artist! This is among my favorite Neil Diamond songs of all-time. It's so beautiful.
I appreciate both of you so much. Number one you both listen intently without stopping. Your commentary is intelligently phrased and you both look so damn good doing it! This song is magical and being almost 60 I know his songs well.
This song is 51 years old, and an all time favourite Neil Diamond song for me. I especially love the guitar solo. So perfect for this song! For a moment there I was going to tell you two to go get a room, Asia and BJ! But you toned it down, ha, ha, ha! 🤣😂😉
I can't even put into words how much I love this artist. The man is a living legend. So many great songs. One of the most proficient Singer/songwriters of all time.
He is to me Americas greatest singer/songwriter. The man (Neil Diamond) has over 100 top 40 hits he composed. That in itself is extraordinary. He is an American Icon. There is now a Broadway Musical about his life and his music. It is playing on the Broadway Musical Theater in New York City now. Great reaction to one of the greats of all times. Priceless!
I just listened to this song five times in a row and cried until i wanted to die. I miss my deceased soul mate, my wife my childrens mother. We enjoyed this song when we dated back in the late eighties and nineties. Shes gone now and my children are estranged drom me so it hurts and hurts bad but i love this nostalgic piece from neil diamond as i love all of his music and voice OMG. God help me!
Oh my.....I have strong memories of hearing this one in the car going places with my parents and siblings. This one is so moving.... simple and beautiful. I have tears in my eyes.... I miss my parents and that time.
Considering the three songs you've done so far, if you'd like to hear something more uptempo from Neil, he's got those too: 'Cherry, Cherry' 'Kentucky Woman', 'Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show', 'Cracklin' Rosie', 'I'm a Believer.'
I grew up hearing Neil diamond all the time so it does have a special place for me. It was actually the first concert I took my wife to before we were married and we will be celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary and a couple of weeks... Great story and memories we have from attending this concert... We were definitely the youngest ones in the crowd... She was 19 and I was 24...
Neil Diamond is one of the great songwriters of my generation. Add to that his beautiful distinctive voice and you cant go wrong. His greatest hits double album is great.
When this song was popular on the radio, I was working at a radio station. A lady called the station and told me the lyrics and wanted to know the name of the song and the singer. I told her and she told me her dad was in a hospice center, near death, and as she was sitting at his bedside this song came on a radio playing softly nearby. She said he responded for the first time in hours by opening his eyes, looking at her, and smiling. When the song ended, he drifted back out and passed the next morning.
Great reaction. Neil said many years ago that music should make you feel something. After listening to you two talk about how this song made you feel, I would say Neil nailed it. Now grab a bottle of wine, two glasses, go outside and light that fire pit. Thanks again for that wonderful reaction.
One of the greatest lyracist musicians ever. You really want to be moved... listen to "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"...an incredible duet with Barbra Streisand that Neil cowrote with Marilyn & Alan Bergman. Neil and Barbra btw, were high school classmates and sang in the same choir together. There's a fantastic live version which I highly recommend; they performed this song together at the 1980 Grammy Awards and it's been one of Grammys' most memorable moments ever since, especially when you consider the audience had no idea they were going to be there, and that Barbra and Neil literally only rehearsed it over the phone a couple of hours before the show.
This song reminds me of growing up. My best friend lived right behind me so we would just hop the fence & we'll be at each other's house. Anyways, as soon as i hopped the fence, all i hear is Neil Diamond's songs. "Play Me, Sweet Caroline, I Am.....I Said, Song Sung Blue & others" Her mom had only 3 different singers that i hear playing her records too & of course, that's right, VINYL RECORDS people!!!!! Great time of my life!!! ❤❤❤
I was privileged to see and hear this man play live in Ames, Iowa many years ago. He is every bit as good live as he is in the studio. He made many, many, very romantic tunes. Check into the album "Serenade". This song is in my top five Neil Diamond songs.
I was a rock and roll heavy music type of dude who paid hardly any attention to Composer/Songster Diamond. Decades later, and I mean decades, I discovered him again. He was and is the real thing. Who can write and sing like this? Very few. He was going to be a doctor but told his father he felt songwriting and singing in his blood and went that way. The rest is history.
When you dig down to the bottom of this, accepting all of life (and for many, it may have the lure of a relationship), it begins by luring anyone into what was laying beside him. It was the music. Relationships are important, instruments are important, but can be changed with the artist's will, but the music will take you. Way more than a love song. Very, VERY VERY deep. It is the eternal language understood by all ... and it always will be. You don't need to speak a particular language, it still moves you. It haunts you. It springs up like new flowers in springtime, with a new glow for your next encounter. Love, war, pain, religion, joy, creativity, anger, new surprises always ... all of it is in the music.
That was mine and my late wife’s wedding song, her name was Anna and she was beautiful. I lost her 7 years ago. I’m happy you all are digging it. It brought us so much joy. I’ll never forget looking into her eyes that magical afternoon as all we had was each other, and each other was enough. 🙏
I'm mostly familiar with the live Hot August Night version, but damn, the singing on this is impressive. Can you f'ing believe that singing was an afterthought for him, he initially being primarily a songwriter?
I had the album and there were a few really good ones on it. Home Is A Wounded Heart, Dry Your Eyes, If You Know What I Mean, Beautiful Noise.....Robbie Robertson produced the album.
Honestly there are so many great songs by Neil diamond You could have a real fun time with that journey I hope you play more yourself if you don't decide to do reactions to it
Thank you guys for giving honest opinions and also credit when credit is due. He was right up there with great artists like elton john. He now has dementia. It will be a great loss when he passes. This is music I grew up with, you can't top 60s and 70s for the best music.
Very, very sadly, Alice, Neil was actually diagnosed with ‘Parkinson’s’ disease in 2017 - not ‘dementia’. I became aware that something was not ‘all well’ with Neil ( as a concert attendee in Glasgow on July 2nd, 2011 ) and again in 2015, until my last concert of Neil’s (also in Glasgow) on October 3rd 2017. His movement’s were maligned … but his voice was still, uniquely his own .
Neil did a magnificent duet with this incredible song with Shirley Bassey( sung Goldfinger). So romantic, so beautiful. It was said they were having a relationship. I hope you react to that great performance.
I've got a perfect introduction for a Neil diamond You need to review the movie The jazz Singer which stars Neil diamond as well as Lawrence Olivier and it really is fun to watch Not a great movie production but it does kind of give a Great great look at his music... Please consider doing a movie reaction to the jazz singer. All the best!
Took my mom to see ND everytime he was in LA! We saw his concert af least 5 times and after a while, I was going for me and not just for my mom ❤ Sorry mom 😊
I'm not an expert on music theory by any means but to me this song sounds like it is in the relative minor key of B rather than D major even though it never goes to a B minor chord or any minor chord at all! It definitely has a minor sound to it despite no minor chords. Would love to hear comment from anybody who might have theory knowledge. Absolutely beautiful song despite the simple chord structure.
You need to go down the Neil Diamond rabbit hole: "Forever in Blue Jeans", "Turn on your Nightlight" (about ET), "Holly Holy" (live on the Ed Sullivan show), "Solitary Man", and "Hello Again", "Summerlove", "Songs of Life" and "America" (all 4 from the movie the "Jazz Singer") of which Neil Diamond acted in. You should react to the movie, it was great. Neil now has Parkinson's disease. x
My favorite love song from Neil is his cover of God Only Knows. It is the only version that I can stand to listen to, But I would melt when I would ply it for my wife.
There is a live version from his concerts, & the woman in the audience scream evertime he sang the words "play me"...,lol. Neil is well known songwriter, singer 1960's & active til mid 2000's.
I grew up listening to him, he was my mummas favourite, she s in the last stage of dementia , but when we play Mr Neil Diamond , she springs to life for the moment. ❤ his voice 🙌❤ just stunning
💙
🙏❤🎶
He has so many hits. Great voice.
Including women.
Glad you enjoy it!❤️❤️
Haven't heard this song in 50 years! So soulful, soothing.....nostalgic for the earlier days of life💙
This man should be considered the 20th Century's Poet of Poets! This song is a fine example of why. His lyrics are beautiful and convey so much meaning beyond their mere surface use. He paints word pictures, tells stories, and sings about things everyone can relate to. His fearlessness in vulnerability is brave and he has given us so many incredible songs over so many decades. Keep going keep going don't ever stop reacting to Neil Diamond 💍💎
One of his best songs, so beautiful.
My favorite Neil Diamond song.
I appreciate both of you so much. Number one you both listen intently without stopping. Your commentary is intelligently phrased and you both look so damn good doing it! This song is magical and being almost 60 I know his songs well.
Neil starred in a remake of the movie "The Jazz Singer" that is well worth watching, not only for the movie, but for a tremendous soundtrack...
NEIL DIAMOND = a poet, a composer, a voice.
Asia & BJ, you'll love his "Sweet Caroline", "Song Sung Blue" and "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show"!!!! A great singer/songwriter!!!
This song is 51 years old, and an all time favourite Neil Diamond song for me. I especially love the guitar solo. So perfect for this song!
For a moment there I was going to tell you two to go get a room, Asia and BJ! But you toned it down, ha, ha, ha! 🤣😂😉
My pop showed me this song when I was a little girl
It’s one of our favorites❤️❤️❤️❤️so beautiful❤️❤️
This song is the perfect union of art, poetry, intelligence and masculinity. It’s what makes Neil Diamond great. Excellent choice for a reaction.
His song "I Am I Said" is INCREDIBLE and one of my very favorites. Glad I found you guys this evening. Thanks for GREAT reaction.
“Ever hear of a frog that dreamed of being a king, then became one”
I can't even put into words how much I love this artist. The man is a living legend. So many great songs.
One of the most proficient Singer/songwriters of all time.
Neil is such an old American soul. Great music and a legend.
Priceless!
❤❤Love this song. Bless his heart - he has given the world some incredible songs. In 2018, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's.
This song makes me cry every single time 🥹 It’s just beautiful 🎼🎸🎤
I just listened to this song five times in a row and cried until i wanted to die. I miss my deceased soul mate, my wife my childrens mother. We enjoyed this song when we dated back in the late eighties and nineties.

For something REALLY different from him listen to "Jungletime" off of the 'Beautiful Noise' album.
I grew up hearing Neil diamond all the time so it does have a special place for me. It was actually the first concert I took my wife to before we were married and we will be celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary and a couple of weeks... Neil Diamond, one of my favorite lyricist's!!

It’s amazing how powerful music can be. What a sweet memory he left her with. I’m glad you were able to help her out so she could listen to it again.
Great reaction. Neil said many years ago that music should make you feel something. After listening to you two talk about how this song made you feel, I would say Neil nailed it. Now grab a bottle of wine, two glasses, go outside and light that fire pit. Thanks again for that wonderful reaction.

1973 when this was released.Vonnie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Neil was my parents favorite....both gone now but...listening to him in the next life.
Love me some Neil Diamond. All his classics are terrific but my favorite is Be, from Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack.
Fabolous song by Neil
*You should do a movie reaction to Neil in - The Jazz Singer. It has some of his best songs n it....and the movie is great*
You need to listen to one of his lesser known songs called, “The Story of my life”. Might be one of the best love songs ever written.
Great singer, my favourite is "Cracklin Rosie".
One of the great songs
