The story of the song is that pete Doherty and carl barat (the 2 singer guitarists and song writters) pete broke into carls flat n stole some band money carl called cops pete went to jail and this song was just after his release its all in the lyrics.. amazing
Definitely not Mancs, this lot. They were essentially the UK's equivalent to The Strokes, only these enjoyed the rock n roll lifestyle a little more. Pete Doherty was almost always off his t*ts on something. A really good band, albeit a self-destructive one.
That's quite a good comparison. The strokes are probably my favourite U.S. Band that are still going. Their back catalogue is huge. I'd love to go over the pond and see them play in Brooklyn one day. Until then I'll be seeing them at the Lytham St Anne's festival hopefully this summer. 👌
I went to see them at Newcastle race course at the end of lock down. Pete looked really well. He's been clean for a while now. He's had an implant that stops him using. He looked quite big with a big mop of grey hair on top. He looked like he'd make a great Doctor Who. 👍 😁
I went to see them just at the end of lock down. Pete Doherty is a brilliant lyricist and poet. We drove 4 hours from Lancashire to Newcastle. It was at a horse racing track and we had to stand on podiums and our drinks were brought to us. You could have up to 7 people on each podium. It lacked the atmosphere of a usual libertines gig, but it was great to hear live music again after the lock down. How do requests work on your channel? It might be a longshot, but I'd love you to react to a great band, who were still playing until recently called "The Enemy" and the track is called "We'll live and die in these towns". Whenever I suggest a song, I kick myself and think of an even better one that you may not of heard, but I'll stop myself from writing more and leave it there..... Peace and respect from Burnley, Lancashire, North West England.
That's london there a London band this song is genius its pete (short) and carl singing what they think of eachother.petes a heroin addict who had just burgled Carl and sold his guitar.
If you like the band Rob then you should also look at 'Babyshambles' they were formed by Pete Doherty one of the guitarists and vocalists during a hiatus from the Libertines. Also 'Dirty pretty things' formed by Carl Barrat, the other guitarist vocalist & better than Babyshambles imo. Some songs of their's - Bang Bang your dead, wondering, tired of England. Oh and the Libertines are not a Manchester band, they were formed in London but the members are from various places around the country.
Good call. 'Albion', 'Killamangiro', 'delivery', 'Fuck forever'. God they did some great music 🎶 In fact, it's 3 o clock in the morning and I can't sleep cause I had a barney with the girlfriend and came home to my flat with the dog to get away from her, so I'm going to down load some Babyshambles before I forget. I download them to my phone, then play them in playlists when I'm driving. Thanks for reminding me about a great band. That's cheered me right up. Sorry for the life story too 🤣
Just never watch a live video of these. Possibly the worst live band in history. A lead singer drugged up to his eyeballs on crack and heroin doesn't help I suppose. From London. Great fiirst album. Excellent non album single and so so second album. imploded because the singer is a complete mess. Ended up in jail. Made a comeback a while ago. Headlines festivals. Seriously out of tune and unable to sing.. 3rd album very dated sounding. They hadn't moved on. Doherty is still a massive heroin addict
Have you seen there comeback gig at reading they was brilliant. The other gigs some other gigs are crap coz there smashed playing guitars that have been smashed and fixed up after every gig.

Love this song.
London band. Proper rock n roll. Drugs, sex, violence, jail and incredible live performances.
These have some right tunes

@@davesmith8620 that reading gig was an abomination
@@davesmith8620 They've headlined loads and played well in loads. If you hate em, you hate em I guess - which is fine.
They’re deffo a lot better now they’ve been back playing together for a while, I like the 3rd album but it was deffo overproduced
Well no.
