Islam is going to dominate Volk! I personally don't see anybody even coming close to defeating him. He is just on another level, a level most never even knew existed. The champion has a name...and its Islam. Finally he has stepped out from under Khabib. I really liked how he carried himself in fight week. Charles got in his face and he got right back in Charle's. Never backed down. He was intense and we got to see some of his own personality, he's gonna be a great champ and he's going to show who he is.

Just keep in mind how much ‘stock’ Izzy lost after moving up and getting defeated by Jan. For the record he then went on to sign one of the highest paid contacts in all of UFC. And he still retained his #2 spot on the Pound for Pound list, Jan didn’t take it in his place. My gut says Volk doesn’t lose much of anything if he loses. Just my opinion.

Volk at the post fight said that he has a lower center of gravity and short legs so if he gets clinched it will be easier to get out. Okay. So it will be easier for Volk to get out of clinches. I really like Volk but I don't see his pathway to victory. He doesn't hit any harder than Charles. He hasn't got a better ground game than Charles. He comes in at smaller end of LW division, Islam comes in at larger end. He gives away height and reach. And, like Khabib said, Volk can wrestle every day with the best for the next 6 months but Islam has done it for over 20 years...and it's Dagestani wrestling.
He doesn't give up reach actually, common misconception. Agreed though this will be a very tough win to pull off for Volk. The only way I can see him winning is trying to outpoint Islam and use his footwork to stay out of danger. He's not going to be able to stay in exchanges long enough to let Islam shoot a take down. It'll be calf kicks, quick combos then pulling back out. The game plan will prob be similar to Holloway 1, though a much different opponent. He does have some of the best defense in the entire promotion and I think that's what he'll try to do to win while trying to steal rounds on the feet.
I love Volk and his Fight IQ is crazy good, But i have no legitimate reason to believe honestly that Islam doesn't smash him. Islam's style of wrestling is just gonna be too much. He's too heavy on top, I like what Volk said in you have too move in order to keep space. But once Islam grabs him i challenge him too get out. I'm a huge Islam fan and while I was at least 90% he's gonna beat Oliveira, I'm not so sure with Volkanovski. Volk grew more and more on me and is arguably the biggest badass in recent UFC history. With some guys you just can't imagine them losing and here we'll see two of them facing each other. This is gonna be very interesting! 😮

Makhachev I feel is still a little one dimensional but is getting a hell of a lot better and improving with each fight, I see this much, much closer than I did for the Main event at UFC 280.

Will be a super interesting fight, volk is faster and out can out-strike Islam, and Islam clearly has the adv+ on the ground, I rewatched volks fight with Ortega where he was almost submitted 3x and if that was Islam in the ring he’s getting subbed on the first attempt IMO, but volks hands are so deadly even on the ground. They both have extremely high IQ and I keep seeing people mention volk has experience fighting 200lb + but at the same time I guarantee Islams wresting abilities will truly be something volk has never faced or experienced before. Love both fighters this will be an amazing fight.

I think he has nothing to lose and a tonne to gain. He's so super strong at 45 and I don't think he will be at a strength disadvantage at 55 given his height difference would allow him to get ultra thick and dense. I don't buy the argument of Alexander being too tiny. He used to be huge and could probably get big pretty quick. His last FW defense was in July so if they fight in February he'd have had half a year to bulk up. Islam has decent understanding of range and knows how to pick his shots, but he looked slow as in his fight vs Charles. Also his jab (which is his best strike since his high kicks are slow and easily blocked) is ultra telegraphed as well. Best case for Islam in the stand up, he'll have equal power with Alexander Volkanovski and his reach will make up for his lack of speed (which didn't end up helping Max who's the same size but Islam can mix his take-downs in like Khabib when he fought Conor). I think Islam can take Alexander Volkanovski down but if Brian Ortega's guillotine couldn't tap the champ then I can't see Islam getting a choke. He could win a decision, but Alexander Volkanovskivs TDD could make the fight pretty close and it shouldn't be more than 2/2.5 : 1 odds favouring Islam.

The story of Islam reaching the title makes him a phenomenal champion. You hear that the remainder of the top 5 refused to fight Islam, how is he meant to pass that gate if they aren't willing to come to the party. Islam has clearly indicated that he is willing to fight anyone, Chandler, Poirier, Gathje, Paddy, anyone, if you don't love Islam as champion you're a fool. Volk is an absolute legend for fighting Max 3 times and then stepping up from a short injury recovery up a weight class to fight for a belt. PvP and IRL Legend.
Honestly not even close to competitive. I don’t understand the fight. The only reason volks striking stands out at feather weight is his wrestling threat and he won’t have any of that against Islam. This will be a complete dominance. I honestly don’t see anywhere that he can threaten Islam. I'm really not that interested in Volk vs Islam. I just think the size and the wrestling will be too much. It's a good chance it's not competitive at all. While i do think Islam gets the win. I really like Volk but I don't see his pathway to victory. He doesn't hit any harder than Charles. He hasn't got a better ground game than Charles. He comes in at smaller end of LW division, Islam comes in at larger end. He gives away height and reach. And, like Khabib said, Volk can wrestle every day with the best for the next 6 months but Islam has done it for over 20 years...and it's Dagestani wrestling.
He doesn't give up reach actually, common misconception. Agreed though this will be a very tough win to pull off for Volk. The only way I can see him winning is trying to outpoint Islam and use his footwork to stay out of danger. He's not going to be able to stay in exchanges long enough to let Islam shoot a take down. It'll be calf kicks, quick combos then pulling back out. The game plan will prob be similar to Holloway 1, though a much different opponent. He does have some of the best defense in the entire promotion and I think that's what he'll try to do to win while trying to steal rounds on the feet.

I'm a huge Islam fan and while I was at least 90% he's gonna beat Oliveira, I'm not so sure with Volkanovski.
Volk grew more and more on me and is arguably the biggest badass in recent UFC history.

This is huge but I do and don't wanna see it. Volk and Gaethje are my favorite active fighters by far and I loved Volk way before he was Champ. Not sure I wanna see him fight Islam but I have to love that that's what he wants. I don't wanna see any other of my fave fighters go against Islam. Will be a super interesting fight, volk is faster and out can out-strike Islam, and Islam clearly has the adv+ on the ground, I rewatched volks fight with Ortega where he was almost submitted 3x and if that was Islam in the ring he’s getting subbed on the first attempt IMO, but volks hands are so deadly even on the ground. They both have extremely high IQ and I keep seeing people mention volk has experience fighting 200lb + but at the same time I guarantee Islams wresting abilities will truly be something volk has never faced or experienced before. Love both fighters this will be an amazing fight.

I don't buy the argument of Alexander being too tiny. He used to be huge and could probably get big pretty quick. His last FW defense was in July so if they fight in February he'd have had half a year to bulk up. Islam has decent understanding of range and knows how to pick his shots, but he looked slow as in his fight vs Charles. Also his jab (which is his best strike since his high kicks are slow and easily blocked) is ultra telegraphed as well. Best case for Islam in the stand up, he'll have equal power with Alexander Volkanovski and his reach will make up for his lack of speed (which didn't end up helping Max who's the same size but Islam can mix his take-downs in like Khabib when he fought Conor). I think Islam can take Alexander Volkanovski down but if Brian Ortega's guillotine couldn't tap the champ then I can't see Islam getting a choke. He could win a decision, but Alexander Volkanovskivs TDD could make the fight pretty close and it shouldn't be more than 2/2.5 : 1 odds favouring Islam.

The story of Islam reaching the title makes him a phenomenal champion. You hear that the remainder of the top 5 refused to fight Islam, how is he meant to pass that gate if they aren't willing to come to the party. Islam has clearly indicated that he is willing to fight anyone, Chandler, Poirier, Gathje, Paddy, anyone, if you don't love Islam as champion you're a fool.
