    The Mets will have Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor and it's entirely possible they continue their streak of never having an MVP because of how stacked the NL is. That's insane.

    This contract is ridiculous, I love Juan Soto but that money for him is crazy.
    I understand he is a great hitter and is one of the best hitters at his age in the history of the game. And at the age he went into free agency, I didn’t think it was crazy that it would be 550-600 million deal. But more than the best player in the history of baseball because that player gets paid like an elite pitcher and elite hitter because that’s what he is, I can’t fathom that.
    And now the best player we have ever seen a true elite player at every aspect of the game, you have a guy who is a great hitter, not great defender, not a speed threat, and who plays a non premium position on the diamond as the highest paid player in the league

    • @_ve0
      @_ve0 27 дней назад +8

      while i also think $765 is insane, it's a little disingenuous to call it a bigger contract than Ohtani's contract without addressing the fact that the AAV is nearly 20 million lower because it's a 15 year contract compared to Ohtani's 10
      overall more money, yes, but nothing near 70M a year

    • @exarkunrocks
      @exarkunrocks 27 дней назад +4

      it's also not about Soto entirely. It's more of Cohen announcing to the Mets fandom, baseball media, and sports history that he's interested in cementing a legacy, exactly as Trev put it.

    • @ShrexyGuy
      @ShrexyGuy 24 дня назад

      @@_ve0 even then it only got that high for Ohtani because his defferals. Before the deferrals were confirmed he was looking at a 65 mil a year contract.
      So there's 2 ways to look at it:
      Is 14-19 mil less a year, but 10 years paying 49 mil more than Ohtani, worth it for the Mets?
      Then is 65+ mil less overall for 5 more years of payments not a better deal for the Dodgers?

    Football (soccer) contracts are a bit different since they're generally in the 3-6 year range. Any player who goes over that is THE face of the club - Messi, Iniesta, Casillas. I do think by AAV, Messi and Ronaldo still have the "biggest" contracts. Maybe also Mbappe. But football contracts for elite players also have buyout/release clauses and I don't think baseball does? Or at least not to the level of football, since Yamal's is supposed to be something like €1b lmao. Plus football players at big clubs can easily take lower AAVs because of how much revenue they make off-field compared to baseball players (I think only Ohtani is in that conversation).

    I can't believe this shit honestly...as a Mets fan, I don't want him. I'll probably end up loving him if he produces, obviously. I just feel like we had a great team last season and we should have done what we could to keep that team together. Unfortunately, they had too many free agents after an amazin year and it was almost impossible. If anything we should be spending big money on top pitchers. The pitching staff was our biggest weakness. I get it we've made some moves on the pitching front but we just spent a whole lot of money you better pay he produces and stays healthy!

      I find it crazy that you all got another ex Yankee Holmes and he will be a starter. Maybe it'll work out what do I know but you also let sevy go to the lowly As. Hope that wasn't due to Soto.

    calling Juan Soto Barry Bonds without steroids is just plain untrue sure the ops+ is very similar but the actual production isn't, with both players in the corner outfield soto has never had a positive dWAR in a season whereas in bonds first six season where he is 2 years older than Soto he pilled up 11.2 dWAR at LF and Soto doesn't have the baserunning abilities that bonds had by the time he was 27 he already had 251 stolen bases, i think this is a really bad deal and the fact theres no team opt out is crazy a lot can happen in 15 years, prime bonds was worth this contract not Soto 40 mil a year tops

    • @Zo3yX
      @Zo3yX 27 дней назад

      Well comparing soto to young bonds is not what they were doing. They were comparing soto to "eating my wheaties" bond. The one with similar slash lines.
      And it seems soto is worth more than 40 m a year cause he is getting paid at least 51M

    • @jgame2228
      @jgame2228 27 дней назад +1

      @Zo3yX yeah but that's what I mean bonds pre steroids has like 150ish ops+ which is the same as Soto now but what I'm saying is that bonds brought a lot more value with his defence and base running I'm not saying soto isn't generational I just think signing a contract of this price isn't the best thing

    • @Zo3yX
      @Zo3yX 27 дней назад

      @jgame2228 and using prime bonds as a measuring stick, will make every contract look bad. Maybe not the profar 1 for 1 deal

    The guy had 8 WAR this year and 6 WAR last year. Why the big bucks? I doubt he gets better. The best you can hope for is that he maintains. For that kind of money you could have added way more than 8 wins. It can't be because he brings in marketing dollars. I don't think people outside of baseball knows much about him at all. This is a curious contract. Ohtani got his contract because he is going to pitch and hit, potentially adding 12 or 13 wins.

    Jake and Jomboy always talk about the Yankees and how poor they are organizationally. The lack of emphasis on fundamentals, the lack of developing players. If they can see it as fans, you can bet that Soto saw it in his one year there. Trev said it about the guys in their organization that have been there forever. How is Cashman still GM after the lack of success the Yanks have had since 2003? It certainly is a worrying trend that outside of Judge, who was always going to stay there, they can't get the big stars to join them.

    So I have a couple of issues, and yes I root for a mid-market team that could operate at 150 million/year payroll and chooses not to so I’m sure I’m a hater or whatever. That being said, 15 YEARS!? That is completely insane. I get that he’s young, but dude better dominate for at least the first 7 years of the deal. I’d never guarantee an athlete more than 5 years, I guess that’s why I don’t own an MLB team

  • @Dad-vice

    If you NPV Ohtani’s deal, you also have to NPV Soto’s deal. It’s still a ton, but it’s not $800 million

    All these NL teams are stacking up. It makes the idea of expansion teams and league/division realignment really juicy. Manfred wants to expand and 2 new teams would probably mean a realignment. Be wild if the Mets and yanks ended up in the same division 6 or 7 years from now.
