The definition of a parasocial relationship right here. Jake kept me company so many years while I did my weekend tank maintenance. Coming back to this video to hang out one more time. I never actually met him, but yet, I miss him. 💙
Love the content. Continue to be the voice of the silent majority of reefers! For real… i think your overall takes on the hobby in general are the same as those who quietly have amazing reef in their homes and mostly away from social media! Keep it up!
very nice tank. you can not only grow corals, but your colors are crazy. i have been doing it over 30 years and still learn things all the time. I am LPS guy never got into the sticks but i have some. i have a bubble coral over 20 years old. love the LPS.
Hey guys, great video as always. Hoping you can help, where is the best place to start learning in depth knowledge from peer reviewed sources about reef tanks. Currently finding it really difficult to find articles specific to reef tanks and would love to learn more. Thanks in advance
Question about the lighting. Can you tell us how many hours you have the whites on and at what percent . Same with the blues and other colors. Do you do a blast like 4 hours of Max lighting?
Cool video. Like the updates I do have a question. What’s the best way to wash your hands before you put them in the tank? Water only? Use soap? Do you know? Appreciate all the videos 🙏
We have Asterina in my school's reef. We don't give them any respect but we don't worry about then. I have only once ever seen an Asterina negatively impact a coral. Cheers, Chris
@Reef Builders I like Astarinas too!!!! But I like coralline algae and when the get abundant in the system I’ve noticed they eat it off my back wall and rocks. Have you noticed this?
What's the status on the closed loop tank? I see that it's still empty in the background. When is it going to be filled with fish or coral? It would be refreshing to see a successful closed loop system.
The asterina starfish can be extremely unsightly when they grow out of control. I had to tear down a tank once when i had like thousands of them. I would rate them the same category of pest as vermetid snails as far as im concern.
I don't know why I'm watching because I'm not allowed to have aquarium no more but this aquarium you just showed makes me want to get another aquarium I'll blame it on you Jake the man and those starfish are the best man people say take those out no way they're the best
I know you've done some fish videos, but the focus of the channel being corals. That's very cool, but EYE would like to see more fish, inverts, etc... Reef life that can coexist. I do appreciate all the "hardware" and tech reviews. Just a thought. Thanks for your channel.
I notice you skim pretty aggressive (your skimmer set level is pretty high in the neck and running filter socks) What’s your opinion of turning the skimmer setting down so it doesn’t pull everything out? Or as dr Tim says not skimming at night so the corals can consume the bacteria before the skimmer pulls them out Reason I ask is because I to for the longest time struggled with nutrients being so low because I would filter my tanks the same way as you are When I’ve backed off to much my filtration then I had issues with to bacteria in my system (fish would get ick and Lps brown jelly etc…) Would love to hear your what someone like you has to say thanks Jake 🙏 🙂
Forgot to mention the only reason I wanted higher nutrients is because everything in my tanks from nems to lps to sps was all pale I also noticed with my ulns the tank was super unstable algea cyano and dynos would take hold way to easily
There isn't really an all or nothing, black and white way to run a protein skimmer. I kind of go back and forth with it as needed to keep the coral coloration as vibrant as I can. I can adjust the water flow of the controllable PSK pump or raise and lower the water level in the skimmer to tweak the skimmate production.
It's on one if those free youtuber / creator subscription sites. Have heard it in a handful of videos. Pretty sure Daniel Schiffer has used it in some of his commercials
The Bob Ross of reef tanks
This might be the best compliment I've ever gotten on the internet
I like these Bob Ross video. You should be doing more of these. It gives me loads of inspiration now 👍
I was going to comment this! 🤣🤣
Agreed on Bob Ross comment!! And it was a honor to have you and your wife over to see our humble abode!! Thank you!

The music in the intro goes hard. Your nickname should be the Reef DJ

Agree with you and I love your user name!

Thanks for the tour and insight,

Wonderful to see those lights used so well. Not sure why I didn’t catch this earlier. Well done!
Lots of love to Jake and Family
That open sequence is 🔥
I really enjoyed this video, especially the randomness. Your tanks are wonderful and such a pleasure to view. Thank you for sharing! Cheers :)
Great video Jake!
Love asterina's as well! Can't tell you how many times I get "yelled" at for having them in my tank. Horrible stigma for those lovely little guys!
Insane colors brother! The corals definitely enjoy those lights
Tank looks beautiful thanks for putting out contact I really like the reef studios congratulations on 15 years
Speciosas have such a pleasing growth pattern to me. That is good size colony. 👍
Jake is the reefing GOAT! RIP!!
The aquarium looks great You're the man
Don’t know how I missed this episode, too good. My goodness, we will forever need and miss Jake ♥️ #goat
That intro was popping!🔥
Branching cyphastrea is such a beautiful coral, love your frag of it.
Hey @reefbuilders very slick intro, really liking all the effort you guys put into each one.
Beautiful tank. What do you feed the tile fish?
Really enjoyed it Jake nice just watching a fellow aquarist having a sort out 👍
its always a good day when you post a video
Great video thanks Jake

RB has time to put a like on your comment, but none to reply. I'll dislike the video.
Beautiful love this can of videos👍👍👍👍👍
the purple filefish are awsome, so friendly
Cool video. Like the updates
I do have a question. What’s the best way to wash your hands before you put them in the tank? Water only? Use soap? Do you know?
Appreciate all the videos 🙏
Beautiful tank ! Do you know what's the par on that tank ?
Great video and info as always brother but we’re can I buy this led fixture
Where is the studio?
Jake another great video. Will you do an video on power failure back up. What is Reefbuilder emergency back up system. Power Generator ect....
We have Asterina in my school's reef. We don't give them any respect but we don't worry about then. I have only once ever seen an Asterina negatively impact a coral.

I like how one of the frags is mounted on it’s side to another Frage plug. Is that large blue Acro an Oregon Tort?
The large blue Acro is a strain I call the Immortal Tort reefbuilders.com/2021/01/15/are-reefers-ready-for-the-immortal-tort/
Boyyyy that intro was fire 🔥
Quite often I see in your eyes the glint of the kid in the candy store.
What’s the best coral disinfectant to use on newly acquired SPS Acro frags?
@Reef Builders I like Astarinas too!!!! But I like coralline algae and when the get abundant in the system I’ve noticed they eat it off my back wall and rocks. Have you noticed this?
Dont think they'll answer you but for me they do, I like the coralline so I pull every asterina I see.
Our sea stars don’t seem to eat all our coralline.
Don’t forget about that Disney lol
Which algae is that dark wine red colored i see a lot in this tank? It's not a coralline is it?
It is.
Great content as always, big fan from Sweden! Just wondering.. Do you have a tank where you live as well or it’s “just” the ones in the RB studio?
Everything was moved to the studio! Easier that way.
can i ask how you controlling your phos thanks
The tank is looking awesome Jake! I am using red sea for dosing. Can you tell how much calcium and alkalinity are you dosing? Thanx in advance
What's the status on the closed loop tank? I see that it's still empty in the background. When is it going to be filled with fish or coral? It would be refreshing to see a successful closed loop system.
Any video you make. I will watch.
My biggest fear is if I die, that my reef tank will die shortly after.
I'm intrigued by what the flow feels like at the end of the peninsular dude?
the water flow is strongest/fastest at the far end of the peninsula where the momentum builds up and turns the corner.
@@ReefBuildersVideo interesting! what do you use gyres?
do you think on that red sea reefer 2 mp40s could get a similar amount of flow that far?
Lokan-eye! Hahah. Your are killing me the way you pronounce the names. Same when people say mon-tip- pera.
The asterina starfish can be extremely unsightly when they grow out of control. I had to tear down a tank once when i had like thousands of them. I would rate them the same category of pest as vermetid snails as far as im concern.
why do you like and have asterina in all your tank? aren't they bad?
Ugh...that encrusting monti adjacent to your new frag spots can be a pain! any ideas how to remove encrusting monti's? tank looks great Jake!
Don't even bother removing them, just kill it back with a movable piece of Galaxea or simply put a coral on top of it
@@ReefBuildersVideo you just gave me a great idea...Maybe a piece of black plastic (garbage bag?) will kill mine back!
Hello, can locals come visit?
I don't know why I'm watching because I'm not allowed to have aquarium no more but this aquarium you just showed makes me want to get another aquarium I'll blame it on you Jake the man and those starfish are the best man people say take those out no way they're the best

Nice clean intro
how do you spell purple towel fish
tile
That yellow belly is really good looking for a yellow belly
Bro that intro. My daughter and I vibing

Jake should really start putting his track list in his videos, anyone know the intro music!!!

Nano update paweez 🙏
The astarin starfish have eaten a lot of my zoanthids so I’ve been killing them
It is true that fish stays on top
what was that blenny or whatever
No blennies. The long purple fish are purple tilefish.
Please use a filter om your camera
That.s not what we do, we show corals as they actually are
☺️
