This is a really cool addition by adding the sanded notches to the tree. I’ve turned several trees but haven’t don’t one like this yet. We’ll done.
Thank you very much... Yeah it's really nice this way!!!🙏🙂👍
Absolutely beautiful work. Thank you so much for the inspiration, I am definitely going to have a go at them. I’m hoping to get back to my turning next year and trust me this is going to be one of the first things I try. Thanks again and keep you the great work. 😊
I am very grateful for your kind words Agnes!!! Of course give it s try... they are so beautiful when you put your heart in them!!!!👌🙂
Beautifully done. Using the sanding drum on the drill press was a very nice touch.
Exactly!!! That's what makes them so special!!! 🌲🎄🙂
I really like your square chisel. I've made some of own, but I like the way it cuts ... not like the standard ones I see.
Yes it's very versatile and easy to use!!! You can use it as a parting tool or as a forming tool touching only the tip of it!!!👍👌🙂

Very interesting
That's what i hope my friend!!!👍🙂
I love the finish on this, but how do you know that the number of sanded indents are going to be evenly spaced around the tree?
After making a couple of same sized trees.... you get the touch of it!!!😁👍
Ótimo trabalho.parabens.,🇧🇷🫡✌️
Muito obrigado meu amigo!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙂
Is that a self made chisel? Never seen one like it that I’m aware of.
Yes this particular tool is self made... but there are commercially produced... search for "Bedan lathe tool" 🙂!!!
Excellent work. I sold my large Jet lathe years ago because I had enough bowls, vases etc to last a life time. I’ve just a small 350 second hand - and, boy, have I lost any technique I ever had! I hope that practice will make adequate.
I would like to understand what tools you were using and switching to - and why. That would help us tremendously
Thank you very much!!! I bet that your technique is still inside you... you just need to get it out!!!👌🙂
I use the minimum of tools but I believe that anyone can do it with the tools that he likes to use!
I start with a roughing gouge and all other work is done with a custom tool that inherited from my father which is a straight square like parting tool but with the bevel just on one side -
It's very easy to use with great results - and last i use a small detail gouge just for the curvy top and bottom of the Christmas tree!!
I hope i am helpful!!!
Thanks for watching!!!!✌️🙂
@@MichaelBechlivanis I think the tool you're using might be called a "bedan". When I googled, I saw tools that look a lot like the one you used.
Watching you use it so effectively made me VERY interested to investigate further.
@@shaunhayward YES!!!!😁 You are so right! I just googled it and I can confirm!!! I didn't know that it existed in any brand!! Thank you for this !!!🌲🌲🌲
what size piece of wood do you start with?
It depends on the size of the tree that I want to make!!! 20 cm approximately is a the medium size!😊🙏😊
Perhaps I should know, but don't ... What species of wood are you turning ?
Don't worry Annie... it's beech but i use a coloured varnish at the end to make it look brownish!!!🙂🙏
If you put a bit of green coloring on them couldn't we still see any of the woods grain. Otherwise these are awesome
I guess you could...if you just use not much colour!!!🙏🙂🙏
Very nice, I am new turner what kind of tool used in shaping? Thank you. And Merry Christmas
Thanks David! Anyone can do it with the tools that he prefers ...i am using a straight square hss tool -like a parting tool but with the bevel only in one side- that I make on my own...i have never seen any brand selling something like that!!!👍🙂
Тор👌
Thank you Petro!!!👍🙂
Please could you tell me the dimensions of the tree. Thank you.
I usually make three of them like a set with the big one at 21cm the second 20 cm and the third around 19cm!🙂👍
@@MichaelBechlivanis thank you.
What is that tool called?
To be honest i don't know the English word of this tool because i have never seen anyone sell it or use it the way i use it although older turners here in Greece used it a lot!!!!
It's a straight like parting tool but the bevel is just from one side of it!
I hope that helps!!!🙂👍
Way too fast
Am i fast???🙂
