Born and bred in London, Anjunabeats started life as a university project in the year 2000. Today, Anjunabeats is one of the world’s best-loved dance labels. Over 700 releases spanning two decades wear the iconic Anjuna ‘A’.
To celebrate, they’ve opened the vault for a handpicked group of artists from the label’s 20-year history. Each artist will sift through thousands of hours of music to create a definitive, mix of their all-time favourite Anjunabeats releases.
On 23 July, Maor Levi delivers the fifth mix in the series.
Another child prodigy, Maor Levi started making music at age 11 and signed “Lital” to Anjunadeep at 15. And boy, were we blown away. Not one to be hemmed in either, he is equally adept in a number of genres, producing deep house, trance, progressive and - as a member of Bad Royale - dance hall music. Bad Royale’s EP of Caribbean Above & Beyond covers is worth a listen. Maor has been a semi-regular contributor to the label over the years, but always an important one. “Reflect”, “Chasing Love” (with Ashley Tomberlin), and “Infatuation” (with Raul Seberdi) are label classics, and his remixes of “Memorial” (by Ad Brown feat. Kerry Leva) and our own “Liquid Love” are the winners of the 20 years “Stuck In The Box” trophy, remaining playable for years after their submission. Maor introduced ilan Bluestone to the label, and together they’ve had numerous hits, like “Everybody” and “Can You” (with Gid Sedgwick). This year, they formed Elysian with Emma Hewitt, and the results - like with everything Maor does - are awesome. Maor’s mix is as eclectic and satisfying as his musical productions and features some great, lesser-known gems. - Above & Beyond
"I got signed to Anjunabeats when I was only 15. It became more than just a record label for me; as a musician, it became a family, a place where I can express myself in the best way possible-through music. I'm very fortunate to have worked with such great people over the years and to share my art in a place I can call home. I've chosen some of my favourite tracks for this mix; it was such a tough task as there are so many timeless records for me on Anjunabeats that really shaped my sound and inspired me. I've included some of my own personal favourites as well to remind myself and the Anjuna family on where it all started, and how we paved the way to 2020. This mix makes us to remember just one important thing: the OLD Anjunabeats is still MUCH BETTER! Nothing that is produced today by the "new" Anjuna is comparable to the old one. "I Kill For You", "Reflect", "World on Fire", "Liquid Sweep and "Eternal Reminiscense" are tracks with an unique and magical atmosphere. I can feel the love and peace when I listen to them :)
