The kinks. Before their time. One of the most underrated bands in history
Yeah, and most of the stuff people know is their earlier work like You Really Got Me or All Day and All of the Night. Not that those songs are bad or anything, but they really don't hold a candle to what you find on an album like Arthur.
@@bredincaptivity4692 actually they do as is most of there very early work-better than the Beatles
come dancing
Agreed.
The first of the heavies!! I loved the Kinks, in fact, all of us apprentices in the factory where i worked at "The Kinks" written on our overalls. The boss wasn't happy.
The song written in such a sweet way, the boy was so naive.
"Very important song to listen before going to South-East Asia" lmfao hahaha
Savio puts things in a straight up funny Beautiful and totally relevant way!!!!! You are totally correct Savio!!! Bless your Heart....❤🤣🤣😂🤣 from Brandon in San Jose California.....I ALWAYS enjoy your Beautiful Channel....❤🙏🏼
Wouldn't want to accidently Bangkhok
Im not the worlds most masculine man but i know what i am and I'm glad I'm a man, and so's Lola 😁
The correct grammatical interpretation of the song is that Lola is ALSO glad that the singer is a man, not that Lola IS a man. Nowhere in this song does the singer say, one way or the other, did they bump uglies or not.
I was lmao the first time I heard that
@@scottstewart5784 The real interpretation is that Ray Davies was fully aware of the ambiguity of grammar and meaning.
@@jackal59 What i am saying and what you are saying are both correct.
Actually, there seems to have been a mistake in the lyrics on screen. Ray sings 'bet I'm a man' and not 'glad'.
I've heard the song for over 40 years (more or less) never knew till now at the age of 55 what the song was about
I get it. Sometimes your feeling a song and not bothering with the lyrics.
@@mjames4709 my sentiment precisely.
I love your assessment that this is a very important song to listen to before travelling to SE Asia!! LOLOL
1:15 the "A HA" moment,
I did find Kirti's sudden 'realisation' funny too.
Love your reactions. The Kinks are one of the most under rated bands and never given enough credit. Some of the best riffs ever. Check out Waterloo Sunset it is my favorite Kinks song.
My 21 yr old's first karaoke song was Waterloo Sunset. Dad raised his son right, lol. Top 5 Kinks song for me.=)
Any relation? And i whole heartily agree, the Kinks are as good as any band!
David White I would love to say I was related but i have no indication I am.
I have on a few occassions, been walking across Waterloo Bridge in London with it playing on my MP3 player, timed for sundown....Nice view of the Thames, Kinks in my ears:).
Sometimes you find out the hard way, lol, great pun savio
;-)
😂😂😂
How wonderful! You selected the song i requested (and probably requested by dozens of others) about the person who "walks like a woman but talks like a man". And you had about the same type of reaction everyone has. "Lola" is such a catchy and upbeat tune you just can't help singing along with it. Then you begin to understand the lyrics. Can you imagine the reaction to this in 1970?! Ah, good times.
Thank you as always for sharing these videos. They are appreciated.
You sir are one lucky man ,having such a beautiful wife .
Isn't she gorgeous?
Stay together
LMAO 3:20 the look of someone who just realized what the song is about.
So damn cute.
You're a really cool couple!
I enjoy watching you reaction videos.
*OMG... Today was the day... I've been on RUclips for years & always wanted to do this. I never thought I'd see the day I would come across a video with 999 likes. I've always wanted to be the one to 👍and be the one who brings that video a 1000 👍 Great reaction, Absolutely loved it & congrats on 1000 likes* 😁
"Lola" is one of the truly great songs. It's near perfect. It's got a nice melody, catchy tune, fun lyrics, buildup of emotions, it tells a story, it makes you pause and think... it's one of the great songs from a generation. A lot of people take the ending, "I'm glad I'm a man, so is Lola" to mean that Lola is a man, but the lyrics are actually wonderfully ambiguous. Some take it to mean Lola's a man, others take it to mean that like the singer, Lola too is glad he's a man. The song implies several things, but never clearly states anything. It's a great song because it captures so many of the things that make music great, and mirrors them with lyrics that capture the wide range of human gender expression.
Good grief! She's OBVIOUSLY trans.
The point of the song is Lola is Lola and not someone to be ashamed of. I think it's a sweet song well ahead of its time.
Travel Advice too! Hilarious!! Great reaction!!
Lola makes another appearance in a Kinks song: "Destroyer". Another one worth checking out, IMO
Definitely! I realized one day that the tune for Destroyer is the same as All Day and All of the Night. Love Destroyer.
Remember this in the 60's it was fun then it has aged very nice and still fun Especially when I was in the Royal Navy in Singapore
Another great selection. You two are simply amazing. Great reactions. Stay with the oldies, you can never go wrong.
This song was from 1970, almost 50 years ago.
Wise words of advice 😁👍
You guys are great
I really enjoy watching you both, please keep going.
Thanks for reaching to the Kinks!!!
This song was released in 1970 and was very controversial at that time. I was a junior in high school when this song was released.
Her reaction to the song is priceless
you ought to try out more kinks like "come dancing"......great video
I loved your reaction when you realized what the song was about. LOL
Ray Davies is a master storyteller..You should try the tune, Live Life by The Kinks. It's from the album Misfits. One of their best albums..And Living On A Thin Line. It's from the album Word Of Mouth..
Memories of a weekend away with schoolmates...the radio, in September 1970. On the Saturday, 18th, the news came across of the passing of Jimi Hendrix.
Their "Sleepwalker" album esp. side 1 (Juke box music is particularly cool track) is a beautiful sounding underrated lesser known Kinks album. Cheers from canada.
Lola is a great song. It came out when I was in high school, I couldn't believe what I was listening to. The Kinks will always be one of my favorites; check out their song "20th Century Man".
Memories of hearing this played on the record player in the senior common room at school For me I found this had a catchy tune (had I Learned the guitar sooner in 1970, this would have inspired me but it was five years later when I worked out the chords...then we all could JAM!) But hey! What about the lyrics...then I couldn’t care less but now for the first time watching you two ...and the lyrics made me smile!!
Nameste, have never seen someone react to the kinks, great band, great song.check out superman by the kinks
Ray Davies is a National Treasure ! "David Watts" is the best Kinks song who some younger than myself think is a song by The Jam !
Here I am checking out some reactions where I find this nice Indian couple with a lot of good energy, and some super thoughtful reactions. Then I see that some sick F out there had this nice couple do Lola! LOL! It may be there shortest reaction but they still do a really good job. AND dude even makes a few good jokes about it. Brovo everyone. Enoma you just got a new sub 😃
Great reaction 😎
The Kinks are an unbelievably underrated band. They have about 50 albums, all good.
'Underrated' is an unbelievably misused word.
The Kinks are a band that have stood the test of time. Great song writing and beautiful music. The Death of A Clown is a great one that I think it was Ray Davies’ wife sang backing tracks on.
The original release of this song as a single by The Kinks in 1970 was banned by the BBC (who controlled nearly all radio air-play at the time,) but not, as you might expect, for it's theme of transvestism, (1970 was a less enlightened time than nowadays after all,) but because of the original line of "where they drink champagne and it tastes just like COCA-COLA".
The BBC don't allow advertising on any song they play over the radio, so as a result Ray Davis had to travel back to London (from the USA where the Kinks were on tour at the time,) to re-record just one line to change the reference to "cherry cola".
fun song to play
I'd love to see you do a reaction to my all-time favourite Kinks song, Waterloo Sunset. Best heard on an MP3 player at sunset on Waterloo bridge, London....when the weather is sunny:).
This was adorable!
Great reaction.
I remember listening to this song in the car when it was new with my conservative Catholic mom. I had no idea what it meant, all I knew was L-O-L-A, Lolo, Lolo, La Lola. I don't know if she understood it either.
Glad I'm married :)
I jokingly call Lola a typical Portland (Oregon) love song. Boy meets girl, boy gets girl, girl turns out to be guy, everyone's happy.
Hi guys just found your channel and your reactions to parts of this great song are priceless lol new subscriber love the channel.
Another classic that doesn't pull any punches!
I'm glad I'm a man and so is Lola.............there's the cinch....like the "Crying Game" but in a song!
Can i give multipke thumbs up... Love this song sooo much
Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed would be a good companion piece. (Heh... I said "piece.")
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT REACTION SONG LYRICALLY ... 'i know what i am and in bed i'm a man AND SO WAS LOLA.....
Song was apparently based on lead singer Ray Davis' experience when he was approached by a transvestite in a Soho bar.
Lola by the Kinks and Take a Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed (of The Band) were very controversial when I was a kid ... still are if you read the lyrics
Weird Al Yankovic made a good parody of this song. It's called Yoda.
Good advice.
I dont know what version this is,but the audio is just amazing!!!
World's funniest song. The lyrics are a hoot!
Awesome, my favorite band! I've seen them in concert 5 times.
Just a good time, party band! You should listen to "Celluloid Heroes" or "Destroyer".
Old mate here punching several notches above his weight but good on him.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! LOL
Queen of New Orleans - Bon Jovi is of a very similar nature. Dare say this might have been an influence.
He said very important to listen to before you travel to southeast Asian 😂😂
attention, 90% of bands, when your guitarist tells you he can play this guitar solo, he's lying.
True
Your reactions were too funny 😅
You have great taste.Lady, you're very pretty too.
"Walk on the Wild side" is about the same thing.... Thank God I've never reached under a skirt and got a hold of a tree trunk. But then I have to know the girl before I get into her pants. I'm weird that way. :)
It's actually dark brown voice.
Took only 1:18 to figure it out. Awesome.
Any song off muswell hillbillies the whole album is a masterpiece
I love ya 😁
The live version is much better. And so much fun. It's one of the few songs, where I prefer a live cut, over the studios'...
True. It definitely rocks more.
@@dexterjankaren ~ 👍 Yes it does... I also like when they try and get the audience into it. And the ending is great...
Honestly I think it's supposed to be "dark-brown voice".
"She walked like a woman and talked like a man." Wife's reaction was spectacular Is it Kitri? Terrible with names....
Came for lyrics reaction. :D
React to 'I don't wanna grow up' EP by Bebe Rexha
Honestly I know the popular interpretation of this is that he fell in love with a transsexual or whatever, but if you think about it and really give the lyrics the benefit of some possible ambiguity, it could just be about falling for an aggressive, assertive, dominant, woman. Like if you went out and got picked up by Gina Carano or something.
same sort of thing once happened to my dad. He took a "girl" home... got in bed and discovered it were not a gal. My dad beat "it" up pretty good.
And is the knuckle dragger proud of himself?
Please react to general levy incredible please UK London 90s music
Another good song about transvestites is "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed
That whole album, called 'Transformer', btw, is about gender bending.
I enjoyed your reaction a lot, but your post-analysis seemed mildly cautionary, as if to say we need to be careful not to be fooled. However, that isn't what the song is about. The song is about falling in love, with a personality, then discovering the *surprise*, and still loving Lola anyway! I think the song is like making a wish that people could be kinder to and more accepting of transgender people- and a wish to love them for who they are, so they don't feel the need to deceive due to rejection and loneliness.
I named my bass lola because she looks like a woman but talks like a man. 😂
Mick Dundee, she's a man... haha
Later in the movie, "just checking.."
Hilarious isn't it?
Does this song have anything to do with a transgender person? Just wondering is all.
Bahahaha
Cherry-Cola? No thanks. I'm out.
Lola must be a transvestite
@@innit8376 sounds like The Crying Game.
Na ya think?
@@martinmarquardt8589 btw that is a great movie
"Walk on the Wild side" is about the same thing.... Thank God I've never reached under a skirt and got a hold of a tree trunk. But then I have to know the girl before I get into her pants. I'm weird that way. :)
