  • From our year of prep work and training, to day 1 at the Huntsville Algonquin Outfitters docks; follow Mary and Steph as they depart on their longest and most difficult journey to date. They meet up with Steph's brother (Luke) and sister in law (Chelsea) and then tackle the terrible beauty of travelling upstream on the Big East River.

Another great episode. The camaraderie, co-operation and communication you two demonstrate is inspiring.

Thanks to you and Mary for doing this trip in Nancy's honour and memory. She would have loved to have been able to be part of the trip, but I know she was following along and right with you all of the way.

She was definitely still a big part of this trip in memory! There were a lot of stories shared about time shared together in the park (some memories including you as well!)

love the video. beautiful river. perfect narration. the constant music is very annoying and makes it very hard to hear the narration.

Thanks, it’s my first time editing anything so the music balancing was somewhat of a challenge. I think I improve with it as the episodes go on. As with anything, I’ll improve with practice!

Really inspiring preparation. So what is the reason for using 4x bear vaults instead of a 60L barrel and harness? And how did you divide up the gear between the two packs?

We wanted to avoid the time for a bear hang, as well, we were able to equally distribute the weight between the two canoe packs. When you have a trip this long, the weight of a “food only” barrel will be drastically less at the end, leaving one person still carrying a heavy pack. We liked the idea of being flexible with the weight.

It was her brain child and we used this method all year. I think I’m a convert!

Definitely frustrating to see sites disrespected. Especially in bear territory. It could very well be deadly for the next person. And no one deserves that.

Thanks for watching! It was an awesome adventure. Definitely frustrating to see people leaving garbage everywhere. I’m glad we were able to help, even if it was just a little bit.
