    That was one tough looking slog! Well done.

      Thank you! One of the hardest things I’ve ever chosen to do. So glad we did though!

    Bravo, the dragging and big portages in this leg of your trip were no joke. Thoroughly impressed by your grit and attitudes.

      It was more river walking then we expected, that’s for sure!!

      Thanks! It definitely was a tough section to get through. Keeping a positive attitude is essential.

    I guess my wish for easier days hasn't come to pass yet! The Meanest Link is showing why it has that name. Looking fwd to more. Uncle Bill

      Hahaha it certainly did not get easier on the big east! The bear spray was a nasty surprise to both of us. On a positive note, the combo of the big east and the mace made the buzzkill mountain portage feel easier than we had expected! Glad you’re enjoying Uncle Bill!

    Great video! I love that you're showing aspects of the trip that many others haven't. For example, you've showcased what the Big East is really like(I've often wondered how bad/tough the rapids are and what the landscape along this portion of the trip is like) as well as Buzzkill. I'm looking forward to the next video!

      Steph and I talked a lot about how the challenges of the Big East were not highlighted in a lot of videos and it left us guessing as to what we might be up against on this section. We decided we would change that! It was later seen to use as an empowering 3 days up the river. If we could do that, the rest should be easy, right?!?!

      Thanks! Yes we also noticed that not much of the big east is shown in most other videos (probably because it’s really tough to film while travelling that way!). We agreed that the head mounted GoPro is probably the only way to capture it and make any progress

    Thanks so much for taking the time and making the effort under such arduous conditions to film your trip. They bring back many memories. Especially impressed with the steady, helpful communication between the two of you. I think I read in an earlier account somewhere that you are nurses, and it shows. Looking forward to the rest of your trip.

      I'm glad you're enjoying! It definitely took extra effort to film but we are both very glad to have the memories for ourselves and to share with others who love canoe tripping. It's such an awesome community and we are blown away by the positivity and support we have experienced sharing our adventure. I'm sure our ability to communicate and cooperate through difficult situations is the number one thing that helped us through the Link

      Thank you for your response. Our husbands would often pass along messages of support from the ML community while we were tripping - it was all held very close to our hearts when things were tough.

    great job capturing that hummer. Any time I've ever seen one they've generally moved on before I can get organized to react. Coming back with moose footage is a hallmark of this particular youtube genre. Nobody comes back with a hummingbird.

      You are right! I was super happy to be able to get it. It hung out with us for so long (well, long for a hummingbird 😂)

      That footage was all Mary! That little guy hovered a few feet in front of us for a good 15 seconds. It was pretty amazing. Neither of us had ever seen a hummingbird behave that way before. We love moose footage as well but there is something special about that bird!

    Pat sent me the link to see this awesome trip. You two are machines! Love the way you've captured the true challenge of the trip so far, can't wait to see the rest of the journey!

    Amazing teamwork! I had no idea the meanest link had so much river walking

    • @stephaniefinn488
      @stephaniefinn488  Год назад +1

      Thanks! We wouldn’t have gotten through it without our teamwork. From what I understand, our water levels were relatively high (which was our aim going in June). I hear other groups have had to do much more walking and dragging than we did. We almost had the opposite problem with TOO MUCH water and current (especially around the sink hole and Finlayson Rapids). I think it’s tough no matter which way you do it!

      @soggywilson Год назад

      @@stephaniefinn488 ohhhh I hadn't even considered too much water being an issue but it makes sense. Thanks

      Haha, we didn’t have any idea we would be walking that much - especially against current. It was a wake up call for our hip flexors 💪

    Not many people are that excited for a portage but after all the dragging I understand why... Another tough day and finally some actual paddling, you two work hard for that well deserved night of rest!

    • @stephaniefinn488
      @stephaniefinn488  Год назад +1

      Haha I think that was the most excited we have ever been to portage! We definitely slept well every night. Though usually not any more than 5-6 hours before we got up to start again.
