Just got back from trying my improved pinpointer. The difference was amazing. I get a full 1 1/4" depth now. For some reason it cut way back on the falsing also. I highly recommend this tip to anyone who's bought a Chinese pinpointer. I wonder if the Garrett Carrot can be improved this way also. Hank
good vid, had mine 4 days and tested it when it arrive and it was picking up a coin at 20 mm, found your vid and a few others, your first one, just found this one and took mine apart as I didn't have wire, my gap was rather large so took mine apart and it moved over an inch, now mine pick's up a coin at 3 inches, so BIG THANK's from me in the UK, you have made my day....stay safe and best of luck finding them goodie's...
You can get even more depth by pre- loading it, fasten small strip of metal to the side with rubber band and slide it forward until it beeps then back of just enough till it stops, it is now far more sensitive. You can also do this with a ring on your finger but bit harder to maintain correct position
I got another inch of depth (or more) on my no name pinpointer just now trying this. It has more sensitivity than the Garrett hitting a nickel at around 4 inches. Seriously! I did it with the handle of a spoon.
I also tuned my one based on your video, but i did it sligltly differently. I picked it apart by removing the only one screw in the whole thing (at the battery place), and after it, i could move the part with the start button out of the way, so there were no danger of breaking it accidentally.
Thanks for bringing this fault to my attention, I have two of these pointers, I shone the light through both of them and there was a 3/4 gap, but I just tapped the pointer downward and both of them went down to the tip without doing the poke wire thing.
I just did the same with with my cheap one. Just firmlytapped the tip on a tiled floor and now it detects and extra 1.5 inches. I cannot justify spending 5x more on a Garrett.
I bought a Garrett Pro Pointer At on ebay that Garrett said was fake. It does not beep but only vibrates. It gets a clad quarter at 2 1/8". At 2 1/4" nothing. I could not find any way to adjust it. A car steering wheel at about 2 1/2". Is that good or subpar?
We received our GP and used it Sunday on our outing. It worked okay but the on off was a pain, we like the sound not worried about the vibration at this point . Was it in was it off none stop checking even after Turing it on. But it’s cheap enough to be a backup after the Garret arrives later this week!
Thank you so much for the video when I got mine it was getting coins around and 1 in to maybe 1.5 all of a sudden side scan no problem but the tip wouldn't pick up. I thought battery low got a new one no dice same story watched your vid 2 mins later quarter 1.25 dime 1 in thanks so much.
Absolutely brilliant and informative video for us beginners, who have the cheapest set ups. I have one of these wands and will now do this trick. I've now " Sub'd and Bell ". Thank you
I checked my pointer and there was no gap. Just back from my first metal detecting session where I used my pointer twice and the cheap gtx5030. After 2 days scanning the beaches in Falmouth Cornwall UK. I found 20pence coin and a 1pence coin plus loads of metal rubbish (bottle tops, can ring pulls, wire, nails and random metal). Settings were at "discover all metal and very sensitive". After adjusting the settings, I avoided random metal and didn't find anything else.
Got mine out to 7-8 inches just by changing the electrolitic capacitor on the PCB from a 450uf to a 1000uf. my detector in my pointer would not go down any more and has an inch gap but will no push any further down so moded the PCB instead.

I have the gp pointer at. Fully waterproof. Been using it for almost a year now. It works extremely well 2 inches all day in depth it does glitch once and awhile but for 30 bucks I love it.
Just grabbed one, it is WAY more accurate than the one shown here. Without modifying it at all its picking up a quarter at 2"- done the same way as yours. Actually I love using the GP Pointer 2 and it doesn’t make the simplex chatter. The pointers in this video are ok if that’s all you can afford, they are better than nothing. Spend a little more and get the GP pointer 2. Oh! and don’t go cheap on the batteries. The dollar store batteries will work only a few minutes in the GP 2. Get a good brand name 9v battery.
Gordon Jones on this pointer you can try something called super tuning. I don’t have a video about it, but you can search RUclips and find quite a few of them. Thanks for watching 🙏
Omg those cheapy pinpointers are whack (and I don't use that term ever) 😂 It's cool though that you're showing people how to hopefully improve on what they've bought 👍
Veer ji must tell because I also have Simplex Plus which version of Simplex you are using which one works best according to your experience I have the old version 2.68 Will I get more depth by updating the version I run Simlex in the first field mode
What if you have some kind of metal debris inside the pinpointer? Maybe an extra small screw that they use to put it together.🤷♂️ You can open it up to check if you like. If you remove the battery you’ll see a small screw in the battery compartment. Remove the rubber power button cover and remove the screw and the electronics should slide out. WARNING! Be very careful of the power button when sliding out the electronics it can break very easily. Once it’s out check to see if anything is rattling around inside. Let me know if this helps. 👍👍👍
🤔 if its loose enough to just push around with a wire, wont it eventually retract from the tip again or even break loose and disconnect? i dont like anything about this "improvement". we cant even see whats really goin on in there, and whatever youve done is temporary at best. you have a youtube channel brother, dont half-ass something. take one or two of em apart, fix it properly!! they were put together = they will come apart. is it possible without cracking the plastic housing? probably, remember that glue hates heat.. ya know what, ima do it. later doood
HELP..... I have the orange version. My son and I used it alot last weekend. And it worked great.., and saved us alot of useless digging. But yesterday we went to do a little searching locally.., and the pointer was acting crazy. When I turn it on, it does the typical beeps. But when I'd just point it downwards it starts beeping like crazy "nowhere near any metal". I could hold it upwards, and its stop...,but as soon as I aim it downwards.., it starts beeping again.., very erratically. I tried turning it off, and back on...but same thing. Even took battery out and checked it, and it's fine to. It worked perfectly last weekend. And hasn't been used or dropped or anything. If I point it directly at metal.., it still does the rapid beeps (like normal). But it's all the other beeping just waving it in the dang air now. Surely it's just needing calibrating or something. It worked sooo great last week.
Sounds like a small peace of metal is inside the pointer. When you point it down the debris falls to the sensor in the tip. If you take the battery out you’ll see one small screw. Remove it then remove the button cover off the on/off switch. You must be VERY CAREFUL on this next part. Carefully remove the battery compartment from the carrot but at the same time making sure the button doesn’t break by guiding it through the carrot. Check to see if anything is loose inside the pointer. Again. You must be very carefull with the on/off button. They break easily.
Kkkkk só não fiz isso no meu porque ele é preto não dá pra ver com a luz da lanterna mas o meu pinpointer é muito bom el nível de alcance pra um chinês o meu é o GP POINTER

Omg those cheapy pinpointers are whack (and I don't use that term ever) 😂 It's cool though that you're showing people how to hopefully improve on what they've bought 👍
I was much kinder in my other GP pointer video lol 😂 but you’re right saying 💩 May have been too much. 😬
Thanks for watching ❤️
@@DigginwithJason you didn't say anything wrong. Just that pinpointer was 💩
Veer ji must tell because I also have Simplex Plus which version of Simplex you are using which one works best according to your experience I have the old version 2.68 Will I get more depth by updating the version I run Simlex in the first field mode
Ik heb een Chinese pinpointer die is water dingt heb ge test en hij doet het nog heb hij klinkt harder
Another hack hold a dime on the side of the gp pointer and move it so it doesn’t go off and you will get another inch of depth
Woow nice
Keep the spirit alive, my friend
Greeting from indonesian
Thanks a lot it worked great 👍🏻
Awesome! Glad I could help.
i must be the lucky one i have had my Garrett pin pointer for several years and mine picks up a quarter at 2 inches
Mine just going off nonstop I'll trun it on and off and sometimes its stops but I'll go over some metal and it wont stop
What if you have some kind of metal debris inside the pinpointer? Maybe an extra small screw that they use to put it together.🤷♂️
You can open it up to check if you like.
It was helpful
I GOT THE SUNPOW AND IT HAS RANGE OF A LITTLE OVER 2 INCHES
Thank you Jase uk
Just put in a rebar, and everything is top notch
Why not just cut the end off glue the end back on again close to the sensor ? a bit of silicone and its good to go lol.
Because it isn’t much easier.
Good to know.
Mijn gp pointerS serie is water dingt
🤔 if its loose enough to just push around with a wire, wont it eventually retract from the tip again or even break loose and disconnect? i dont like anything about this "improvement". we cant even see whats really goin on in there, and whatever youve done is temporary at best. you have a youtube channel brother, dont half-ass something. take one or two of em apart, fix it properly!! they were put together = they will come apart. is it possible without cracking the plastic housing? probably, remember that glue hates heat.. ya know what, ima do it. later doood
Bro if you pulled off the metal ring you would have seen it has a grommet under that. Just lose the metal ring and Bob's your uncle
Your hat seems to be a little frayed there pardner, I can send you a fresh hat if you need one.... lol
😂😂 that’s when you know the hat nice an broke in and comfortable.
ihadgp pointer how much mony this
Mine is already pushed down. Weird
That’s good. I have one that was already pushed down too. It seems to work better than the others. Thanks for watching.
Nice one…

Scott Sparks yes. I have a black one that works really well so the quality is hit and miss on them. 👍 thanks for watching bro.
Your pinpointer is your second most important metal detecting tool, don't go cheap...
Thank you!
Hey. Hope the video helped you out. Happy hunting when you get the new detector.
Good Video
Thank you sooo much. 👍
