Luthier Jason Kostal (Phoenix AZ) is rightly renowned for his extraordinary attention to detail throughout the guitar making process. Earlier this year I visited him and we had a chat about string choice while he carved a new nut and saddle for my MDW signature model.

So funny! I used J P PB lights for a number of years and liked them. I've since switched to Martin coated strings which do last longer but don't sound quite as nice.
Well, I can still tell the difference, I find that JP's sound gorgeous for the first 37 seconds and then it's downhill fast...
Thanks for pointing that out...nothing worse than strings that go downhill fast! Elixirs, while more expensive, do go the distance! I've been using the D'Addario phosphor bronze EJ 16s for years and find them to be satisfactory.

I hate elixir they dont make the instrumen vibrate like it is sopost. They feel like roberbands.
I know what you mean...Elixirs are different, and not everyone's cup of tea.
Erm... well, everyone's different. I've used them for 20 years and they're an integral part of my sound.
