What you said… yet another example of Michael being his incredible self. I had the good fortune of seeing an iteration of this group at a jazz fest in Ohio and while Randy seriously struggled on that gig, the rest of the band was killin’ it… especially Michael. He was the only one getting that sound out of a link. Cool to have the different mouthpiece eras with his playing. The Horace Silver stuff on the link is just an incredible sound.
...amazing, I will come back again and again to check this out...studying the masters was always a part of a solid musical training, even centuries ago..You Tube has made this infinitely easier..no excuses!..extra special thanks to Michael Brecker RIP..a giant among giants
This track gives me a very special feeling - back to 1978. Danish Radio Jens Jørn Gedsted was so generous to provide this area with goooood music and amongst were I´m sorry by Brecker and Manieri - I taped on my 'Tandberg`and listened for decades. Still do.....Thanks a lot.....I vent from the North of Jutland to the coast of Venice to hear this group in the early 80 - along withe Miles and B B King and others - only because of Danish Radios Broadcast of this song .......
Il me semble que cette année là, c'était vraiment la meilleure, Vraiment la meilleur. Merci pour la vidéo. D'autant + qu'elle est très claire. Merci encore.
Dramatic contrast is a sign of a great player: how Brecker goes from a complex passage at 1:18 to a more tuneful and bluesy passage at 1:28 for relief. The whole solo has shape and builds.
I must i´m pretty jealous with you guys that actually saw this thing live back in 78, it was kind of before my time i was 4 years old then. But the music is fantastic, all guys are now adays more or less legends! Nobody could paly sax like Michael Brecker.
For me, it was the year, the best. There was a multitude of artists : Michael Brekers, Richard Tee, Mike Mainierin Steve Gadd, Jaco Pastorius, Randy Crawford etc... I think that it was The One.
Yup and James Taylor and the original Blues Brothers Band and the original Letterman Show drummer on NBC with Will Lee, Hiram Bullock, Paul Schaeffer and David Sanborn.
That band is just ridiculous! And Michael is at his effortlessly soulfullest..... I wore this vinyl out back in the day, and I still get goose bumps!

Steve Jordan's groove @ 21 years old...wow.
Yeah he was "a mini Steve Gadd" with the over all feel of everything but his groove is his own.
For me, it was the year, the best. There was a multitude of artists : Michael Brekers, Richard Tee, Mike Mainierin Steve Gadd, Jaco Pastorius, Randy Crawford etc...

Excellent.
hard to believe this video is almost 30 years old.

I really wish this stuff were commercially (or not) available on a single DVD
Doesn't he play with John Mayer sometimes? (Steve Jordan)

How old was Steve Jordan in this vid?? He sounds killin'!
Why did the post edit Michael's beautiful unaccompanied intro? I love this performance, but wish it was posted in it's entirety.
Do you have his two books?:)
What's that cable doing on the neck of his horn?

That's for a pick-up. MB used a lot of effects at that time.
He was SO soulful in spite of what some people think.
