As someone who practices against friends by using level 9 cpus on his own time and has played thousands of rounds against them I have a few theories about the AI in this game from the patterns of gameplay that I noticed (I only say theories because I don’t have a solid way to prove this): Theory 1) When the AI gets down to 1 stock left it REALLY tries harder and REALLY FEELS like a true level 9 (almost 10) cpu at that point as if everything is on the line like in a tournament and it must win! It’s the hardest stock to beat out of the others and each stock gets harder the more you take from the AI! One way of testing this is try to do a 3 or 5 stock battle and get the cpu down to 1 stock left then keep jumping to your death until both you and the cpu have 1 stock a piece and now the battle will really begin because the AI now calculates it really has a chance to win against you and that the W comes down to this stock! That’s why when I saw HungryBox’s gameplay I kept waiting to see what happens when the cpu had 1 stock left! Theory 2) If you played against your friend and let’s say he was player 2 playing with controllers then you changed the second player to cpu level 9 with same character (or maybe even another character) the AI will implement similar play style skills of your friend with the crazy hard level 9 AI skill blended together and will play more like him. Each time you turn off your switch or quit the game back to switch home screen the AI slowly returns back to its regular fighting pattern. Theory 3) The AI seems to kinda know what buttons you’re pressing on your controller before you land an attack on it. What I mean by this is if you run towards the AI it can kinda predict you’re holding the left stick right or left and that there’s a good chance you’ll follow up with pressing B or A for some kinda of running smash attack and even adapts its position before you come close to it. I’ve also noticed sometimes the AI could have used an UP+B for a ledge grab recover and it sometimes just gracefully falls to its death for no reason when edge guarding making me question “wtf?!? It could have lived lol” and I noticed each time I’m somewhat high in the air and held down on the left stick for a good amount of seconds it kinda predicts there’s a high chance you might do a down smash or get a 2 frame where it will trick it to kinda give up or wait as long as it can before it tries to recover using UP+B (This rarely happens). Also, if you keep spamming the same attacks like say a side smash multiple times to hit the AI it will catch the pattern and adapt its play style so it punishes you and forces you to adapt yourself to hit it another way, you’ll know this is happening because it will be hard to land a hit with the same attack multiple times! 4) Let’s say you set up 2 player smash and set both players to CPU Level 9 and have them play against each other, one CPU player is bound to be better at playing then another. After a few rounds see which player consistently wins while keeping the characters the same and then change the characters around from player 1 and 2 and the one cpu that kept winning will most likely be using a better AI gameplay skill method to have a higher chance at winning the match even when swapping characters! Theory 5) Every time you play another set with the same CPU even after a win and same stage it’s not guaranteed you’ll win again because it sometimes feels like the AI plays even more aggressively on some sets and more easy going in other sets regardless of it set to Level 9. Anyways, cool video and now I’m gonna try playing more level 9 Kazuya’s after watching this video!

Edit: on my second attempt, I chose small battlefield and kept everything else the same, he killed me 3/4 times this time Edit 2: kept the stage as small battlefield and changed it to 3 stocks, he killed me 2/3 times Edit 3: I've played 3 more matches against him, I lost 2 and won 1, all either 2/3 or 3/2, I'm starting to understand where people are saying it's hard, half of his combos are true, especially his damn footstool one, you literally can't escape them until they're over

Edit: on my second attempt, I chose small battlefield and kept everything else the same, he killed me 3/4 times this time
Edit 2: kept the stage as small battlefield and changed it to 3 stocks, he killed me 2/3 times
Edit 3: I've played 3 more matches against him, I lost 2 and won 1, all either 2/3 or 3/2, I'm starting to understand where people are saying it's hard, half of his combos are true, especially his damn footstool one, you literally can't escape them until they're over
