- THIS Is How The Indiana Fever DEFEATED The Phoenix Mercury.
In Caitlin Clark’s first game, she put on a SHOW against Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury. Although the Indiana Fever were down 15 points in the 3rd quarter, they came back and won the game. How did they do it? Well, Caitlin Clark led that charge, tallying 15 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds. The Indiana Fever just PLAY BETTER when the ball is in Caitlin Clark’s hands.

A standing ovation for Caitlin at an away game about says it all.
I was there. She won the crowd. It was such an amazing game. Everyone was on their feet for the last 5 minutes of the game.
Every game is a home game for Clark. Over 17,000 showed up. More than twice the Mercury's average home attendance. I doubt if most of the crowd was rooting for the home team
Yep, every road game is a home game for Fever with CC22. Over half the crowd are there to see CC22.
@@charlieb9630 I envy you!
It was a beautiful thing to see , I love people celebrating others , and Caitlin deserves it all the love ❤️
If Mitchell learns to trust Clark, Caitlin will elevate her game with those open shots. That’s what shooters love.
Taurasi showed respect to CC before, during, and after the game. Much needed in the WNBA.
She should've done that when CC entered the WNBA!
She has no choice it was obvious that Caitlin was great and if she didn’t say it looks bitter and isn’t a good look !!
@@motherofthreeb6337 better late than never
@@mariamonsegur9403 everyone always has a choice.
@@adhdguy8403 yes but everyone has a boss , and she knows what is best for her 😂
Young man the real truth is that her teammates at Iowa were more aware of being ready to receive a pass from Caitlin - so they made more catches than her current teammates.
If her teammates will focus more on being ready to receive a pass from Caitlin than there will be fewer turnovers
Absolutely 💯
It begins with trust. Give Clark the ball, trust she’ll find you.
Do you know the difference between "then" and "than"? Young man stop mixing them up and learn the difference.
@@MelvinJ64 Typos are a thing, you know? Also, you put quotation marks inside the punctuation mark. This is incorrect. I'm addition, there should be a comma after "Young man."
I think that is an astute observation.
Typically fantastic analysis. Rumors are that Caitlin had a cold or a migraine. Scary when she's 100%. Just a good, tough, resilient road win when nobody was really hitting shots in the first half.
Her previous 5 games had averages of 50/40/90, so that's probably correct.
I think it was a migraine.
My daughter graduated from New Mexico State in 1992. That event marked the end of her basketball career and my fanatical obsession with the women's game. My cure was short lived.however, because in October of 2024 I fell victim to the Caitlin Clark Effect. Now as I view your excellent videos I'm becoming convinced that something other than honest competition is fueling the current version of the WNBA. What say you young sir?
Her tenacity reminds me of Larry Bird.
Not just rumors, Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson from the Indianapolis Star said that it's straight from the team that Clark had a migraine for the entire game. Fever coach Sides didn't say 'migraine' but said that Clark didn't let her know about it until after the game and was with the trainer, which is why she missed the postgame presser.
That's typical Clark, just putting her head down and going to work, regardless of what she has to deal with. And ESPN's previously reported that Clark has suffered from migraines for years (but has never made a big deal about it).
CC is a phenomenal player! She makes her teammates better scoring machines! A top notch play maker!!!! She’s scary!!!!!
Clarke's basketball iq is phenomenal
Caitlin “the reality” Clark
I'm a Motorsports fan and literally never watch basketball, but Caitlin Clark has caught my attention. Listening to your analysis is very informative and fascinating for people like me with little knowledge of the game.
So awesome to see Briner and DT giving CC some love. Seeing DT and CC laughing together at half court during the free throws is the epitome of what will lift the W. DT is a professional, a vet, and it's awesome to see her have fun playing a rookie. When you're a true vet, you're confident enough to know it and react like a vet would, with humility.
It's because Caitlin has a good heart. DT needs to rescind her immature comments and learn from Lebron James. He's never had a negative thing to say about new players.
If the ball goes thru CC they are successful 90% of the time everytime
You are on the money, Mitchell has been playing with ego most games but if she drops it and recognizes she can shine even more with Clark as the offense general then the Clark, Boston, Mitchell trio gonna be unstoppable.
Damn kid, you should be a coach. You have me convinced you know what you're talking about.
😂😂😂
Agreed. Good energy, easy to follow, and compelling arguments
She gets compared to Steph a lot because of her shot but she reminds me more of Jokic. She has crazy range but can't get it off as quickly as Steph. The threat of her range, however, sets up her passing. And she sees the floor phenomenally
Totally agree with you about that
For Real... I'm convinced too!
Despite the fact that Caitlin Clark's team isn't passing her the ball, and she is Only averaging eleven shots a game, Caitlin has become the fastest player in WNBA history to record 300 Points, 100 Rebounds and 100 Assists in a career.
Thanks, great analysis. that game was beautiful. CC's BB IQ is off the chain. IMHO she is the best PG in the WNBA. She will improve greatly. That logo 3 was everything
So proud to see Mitchell & Boston scoring big too. Those CC to AB passes are magical. What an awesome win against some of the best players in the league. And when Turasi & Griner hugged her, made my day.😊
When Indiana Fever is down by 10 points at least, the teammates of Caitlin Clark are slowly learning that they should not panic and keep their composure because Caitlin Clark is there on the court and she will make things happen to overcome the lead by getting points in transition, by passing to them when they are open and by shooting her logo 3s to hype up their morale and dampen the spirits of their opponents.
She reminds me of Tom Brady… love it
CC possesses an eye of an eagle in the court!!!
TRUE(mismo)
Excellent Commentary
Yes, I love his explanatory categorizations which is the hallmark of a good teacher.
You are a great analyst and so articulate. You know basketball and know how to explain it. Everything good that happens for the Fever happens because Caitlin has the ball in her hands and her teammates are beginning to understand how to be ready in the right spot on the floor to receive the pass from Caitlin. She is making her teammates better. You are so right about Mitchell. If Mitchell plays the right way, let’s Caitlin run the show, she will get open looks always and will have an opportunity to be an all star every year. I could see them being a special duo if Mitchell continues to learn that Caitlin is the catalyst and takes her lead. Caitlin is a visionary on the court - it is special and as she plays with her teammates longer, turnovers will reduce and her assists will continue to rise. And if her teammates continue to learn how to play with her and actually set screens like they did today, Caitlin will continue to get open looks (and she will hit them - today she hit big shots when they needed a run but she was off as she was not feeling well today).
It's the little things that people don't notice. Like the time she came off Boston's screen and kind of stopped, waiting for AB to roll and forcing Griner to pick her poison, as soon as she took a step toward Boston, CC took it to the hoop.
Clark should be called the quantum computer. She’s got an extremely fast processor that reads the court information and what’s happening and boom. Executes the weakness in the defense.
Her teammates must be aware all the time and produce! CC is a true General that can make a difference when needed!
And she had 12 Assists!! Fantastic!!
13
She was involved on 44 of their 88 points, people don’t realize that assists are equally as important as points
Great analysis, better than the talking heads on tv 📺 making the big bucks. You should be a talking head on Television.
Good and fun analysis. Caitlyn is just plain exciting to watch, good or bad night!
First rate analysis. Deeply appreciate your enthusiasm. Thank-you for posting.
I love your videos, Carter!!
I agree with everything you said, with one exception. IIRC, Kelsey was in ball-hog mode at the beginning of the game. She brought the ball all the way to the hoop twice, I think, and ignored her teammates. The third time, she cut under the net and circled back out to the right side. CC was open and was waving and Kelsey ignored her and shot an errant 3. She left the game after that didn’t return until the second half, with zero points. In the second half, she was exactly as you described her, e.g. performing as a teammate to her PG-playmaker AND she hit everything she shot, or most everything.
I like to think Sides sat her down for the remainder of the first half, for disregarding instructions and everyone reaped the rewards of Kelsey playing team ball!!
Keep up the great videos and great analysis, Carter!!
I bet you're right! Sides benched Mitchell for refusing to play team ball. Finally!! Someone else called this too, I think it was Mick Talks Hoops or Ben Daniel, or maybe Adrienne Ross, all channels with great CC22 and Fever content.
This is exactly what happened. I hope Mitchell realizes what HUGE opportunity is in front of her. I hope she grabs it, has fun, makes money, and win championships.
You are the first person I’ve watched analyze a game, and I am hooked. You articulate it perfectly and I am feeling so validated in my thoughts being said so perfectly. You’re great at this! I’ll be back after every game, can’t wait to hear what you think.
Carter IS fantastic! You might also enjoy Mick Talks Hoops, Ben Daniel, and Adrienne Ross, all have terrific CC22 and Fever content also. Each drops gold nuggets of truth in nearly every video, and also posts regularly and quickly after games. Love them all! P.S. I suggested Carter review his habit of bringing one hand to his face while he's speaking, picky, but would help his visual look of professionalism IMO. Would love to see him break 10K subscribers and keep right on going.
Agreed Ben Daniel’s is fantastic !!
Dig your channel and breakdowns. As soon as Caitlin tightens up her defense, breaking through screens, and gets some better movement off the ball. She's going to be scary!! She needs a good 10lbs of muscle and she's going to dominate the W. She sees the court at an elite level! Can we talk about how horrible the refs were in this game. BG throwing more elbows than a Ludacris concert!
I bet against the Fever in the 3rd quarter because of how bad the refs were. She's eating 5000 calories a day and can't keep the weight on. The off season will be magical for her! She'll gain 10lbs, study film like it's movie night and dominate next season.
1 reason CC22 must keep attempting the deep 3s is that if she doesn't, the opponents will modify their response so that they're focusing just that little bit more on her team mates.
That and because she knows the crowd loves it and it could also feed into the energy of the team like a 6th man and push them for the win. I imagine it also affects the home team somewhat when the crowd is cheering for Caitlin and the Fever.
It's a shame that Sides didn't give CC and the fans the chance to see CC possibly get the triple double. It would have been a great moment.
Wow what an excellent analysis and I am so impressed with you. You are seeing and saying things that no one else is mentioning. You actually brought a tear to my eye for your assessment of Caitlin and even Kelsey . I love watching Caitlin and want her to succeed so bad that it’s almost reminds me of when I was watching my daughter play lacrosse and she was the star too . I get nervous and I feel the same joy when Caitlin does well. It’s crazy and I don’t think I’m alone in this feeling.
Outstanding analysis unquestionable!!!!! 100%
Screens looked much better tonight.
Vision is a gift...execution comes with experience and maturity..we'll stated my friend..love your channel..enjoy your breakdowns very much
Damm dude you need to be there coach bro you see wat CCLARK sees perfectly ❤️❤️❤️❤️😎
Love your take and analysis about CC's game. Outstanding.
Great work, Carter. 1 board shy of a triple double on a very off shooting day says a lot about how massive amount she contributes outside points..
You get a lot of compliments, kiddo- and deservedly so!
First time listener! 🙌 Great job!! You are wise beyond your years! ☺️ Excellent communicator!! 💯
Caitlin scored and/or assisted on 44 of the 88 points of the game with a migraine!
At 8:07 I love how how Clark was immediately aware of the mismatch. Easy bucket for Boston in the paint over the shorter player. Great assist from Clark. ✔️ Her awareness and court vision is amazing.
Damn you on the money. You should replace Coach Sides. She’s playing favorites.
I am not a fan of young kids spouting off but you are truly incredible. Well reasoned, well spoken, 10 out of 10.
It takes a whole team to win a game, but Caitlin is the catalyst that pulls the results out of the other talented players on her team. The key to winning is allowing Caitlin to be the general. Steve Nash pulled the great out of Stoudemire and Caitlin can do that here.
@@chevyyyyyyy I don’t think Caitlin can win by herself but whenever she gets the ball, good things happen for her and her team. I don’t think her stats describe what she contributes to her team. I think there was some jealousy with some of her team mates but as of now, I think they care the most about winning (as it should be).
With the tickets selling at more than 100% more than last year and over 100% more per ticket, somebody is making a lot more money and it isn’t the players I suspect Caitlin will force a better deal for the players from the teams (ticket sales) and the league through a better TV deal. Within 2 years, all the girls will be getting 2-4 times their current salaries directly because of Caitlin.
CC has so many tools in the toolbox and she's so quick on the drive it forces the defense to collapse in on her. So much for her being a one trick pony as
only an outside shooter..
CC effect, sellout crowds on away games and home games. CC has great court vision and a better passer than I thought.
Loved the clips, Carter! You're right about Caitlin finally shooting. She's had bad shooting days in college too, but she has to keep shooting. Compared to what's been about 11 shots per game, it was so nice to see her throw up 14 attempts this time. I'm so happy the reporters cornered Christie Sides last game and made her say that she wanted Caitlin to shoot at least 15 per game. I don't know if it matters, but she had a migraine all day, which is why she didn't do the post-game availability.
Carter, you nail it every, every time! Other podcasters , streamers and Utubers should watch and learn from you!!!!!!! You gots class my man!
Christie Sides, listen to this analysis!
Excellent analysis, especially about great shooters needing to shoot without worrying about missing. They have a gift that they need to demonstrate to their fans without fear of missing. The audience pays to see her amazing range; all her other basketball skills are just an additional bonus.
Awesome commentary. I love Caitlin Clark and it is a joy to see her play.
Fantastic commentary and analysis! Thanks for another great one! So great to see Kelsey Mitchell starting to "get it" that she can just play off the gravity of CC22. Mitchell up to now has been 100% about her stats and 0% about winning. Someone helped her figure out if she plays off CC22 she'll get the stats and be part of a winning team. So fantastic to see her give the ball up to CC22, CC22 immediately draws a double-team, Mitchell moves to open spot, gets pass back from CC22 for an open 3. Great stuff, finally!
LESS SELFISH, MORE PRODUCTIVE TAKE YOUR CHARITY
I don't know who he is, but with Carter in this RUclips, I feel like I am getting great commentary from a guy that plays, and that really knows how to play. This is chock full of insight that I think is spot-on. and it confirms what I thought I have been seeing with Caitlin Clark, that she has great court vision and is way ahead of a lot of players because of it. And she did this on a night that she shot poorly.
@CarterMomon, this is your best video on CC yet. it addresses so many points that fans and haters keep making, and keeps everything in perspective. you need to just link to this video from now on, to address the points that keep coming up: turnovers, and Kelsey Mitchell, and coach Sides, and CC's vision, and how she balances shooting and assisting, and what the Fever need to do to capitalize on her skills and BB IQ.
relatedly, as you get better known, you might want to keep refining your presentation. (I'm the commenter who requested more replays and slo-mo -- you had a lot of nice replays here, but no slo-mo, oh well!) try telling us what to focus on before you play a clip ("notice how Kelsey passes the ball to CC and then immediately heads for an opening on the wing"). also, I love love love your enthusiasm -- don't ever lose that. but try to keep yourself to a couple of repetitions of your favorite phrases ("good things happen"), and maybe do an example of "here's what I mean: they couldn't have predicted that the defense would be open on the left, but they were in a great position to take advantage of it."
you really are an amazing commentator and analyst, and we all benefit from that. I really admire how you've never let the haters wear you down (love your comment to people going off on some bizarre rant: "okay"), and I feel (though the haters will disagree, of course) that you're being really balanced and objective about the fact that CC is amazing, AND needs to improve, and her coach and some of her teammates aren't supporting her (or helping themselves), but she is making a difference for the Fever. which is, as you said, what she wanted to do: not be MVP or the GOAT or pad her stats at all, but make a difference for the Fever and the WNBA and for women's basketball.
which I feel is your goal too (as well as a lot of other basketball-related goals, no doubt, e.g. in the NBA). so thank you!
Team mates need to do their part to get CC shooting opportunities so her gravity remains effective. Icing out CC is effectively damaging everyone else's scoring opportunities.
Been one of the problems in losing games was Mitchell and Smith not including Clark many times. Of those times, of the two, they made shots. Other times they got tied up and lost the ball, for not throwing back to Clark or someone.
Transition offense is when they're at their best. Normally mitchell and wheeler kill transition offense because they hold the ball, dont pass, and dribble too long. Bad or nonexistent screens also halt the transition 2 man game. Wheeler didnt play much which kept the ball in clarks hands and mitchell realized she didnt have it and so started feeding clark, just to get it right back and hit her groove with the spot up shooting. Most of the time they played beautiful ball when running the offense through clark.
transition offense is where CC shines. as an incredible playmaker.
I am really enjoying your videos. You have an outstanding Basketball IQ. Just became a subscriber.
I was waiting for this game to see if Caitlin and the Fever could win the respect of veteran player Diana Taurasi. To her credit Diana voiced respect in her after game interview, unlike her comments about Caitlin before the season started. Maybe part of the motivation for Fever to WIN this game is to show the veterans they are worthy of respect! It just seemed to me the Fever REALLY wanted this win. That fire just wasn't there in the Strom game when they lost by 12 points!
Dude! You are on your way to GOAT of RUclips basketball analysis! I enjoy your videos so much. I’m new to the WNBA because of CC and there are some really good things here and other good players. I’m here for CC and definitely rooting for the Fever. Love Boston and the potential of Mitchell being a team player. I’m even watching non-Fever WNBA games. I’ve also learned that so many of the other CC basketball videos (not from you) are flagrant fouls they want to focus on the controversies but not the game. Your passion for the game, and the game played well, shines through. ❤🏀⭐️
Good call about the difference between when Caitlin chest-passes and bounce-passes mattering with other players being able to catch her passes. In the previous game against Seattle, we got a look at how powerful her chest-passes are when she fired one off all the way from the opponent's paint to a player who was in the Fever's paint because she'd hauled ass to get there and open. Most female players would throw that pass one-armed like a football for that distance and Caitlin is so strong that she chest-passed the ball like it was shot from a cannon. In this game Caitlin softened her passes to cut down their velocity, and that made a huge difference in her teammates being able to catch her passes more easily. That translated into better chemistry for being able to competently execute plays.
The Fever are going to have to find a balance where Caitlin doesn't have to take enough velocity out of her passes to make them easily intercepted for turnovers and them being soft enough for her teammates to handle. Once they find that balance they'll become a much more formidable and effective team. In one week, the team went from fumbling passes and not being able to execute easy plays to beating a higher-ranked team in an away game.
It also seems that Coach Sides has finally pulled her head out of her butt, and figured out how to find a better balance between Caitlin's passing-power and her teammates being able to handle her passes by having Caitlin soften her passes for them. She also managed to refrain from making any end-game boneheaded play calls that would have cost the Fever their lead and win. I saw an improvement in coaching and playing this week and it made a significant amount of difference.
lovely analysis of her passing -- thank you!
one thing CC did at Iowa, that probably doesn't translate to the pros very easily (someone argued with me online that it won't translate at all), is passing to the open space the receiver could be (should be) heading for -- where they can pick up the pass and not even need to dribble, just take it to the rim. (Hannah Stuelke's specialty at Iowa.)
no, WNBA isn't a great environment for that style of passing -- but if CC's teammates learn to expect those kinds of passes, so CC can learn how and when to make them, and minimize turnovers, then that's another arrow in her quiver, and something else for the defense to worry about. beginning at full-court, the instant CC gets the ball.
Your commentary is excellent. I learn so much from you. Thank you.
You are on the money, my friend! 💯🔥
I love caitlin clark❤
This is my new go-to channel.
The game was fun to watch. CC shared the ball with everyone.
They said she did not feel well. Migraine
Remember MJ decades ago he was totally sick & won the championship? Same with CC what ever it takes.... I never watch WNBA before. CC a 22 yr old compared to Steph Curry, Magic J, MJ & all other NBA players is breaking the records in basketball sports. I'm so proud of Caitlin Clark.
It was so good! I was cursing by 30 seconds in tho 😂
Excellent analysis! Clark does such a awesome job controlling the tempo of the game for her team. ✔️
This is the first time I've seen your video and I'm blown away with how articulate you are and how perceptive your analysis is. Kudos to you.👋
Caitlin's great court IQ and ability to see the entire court, like a chess grandmaster can see the chessboard, will help her shotmaking. Her pinpoint passing is getting her teammates to hustle down the court and get open more, knowing that the reward will come when Caitlin hits them with the pass. As her teammates score more, opponents can't double team and triple team her. If she gets any opening she can let fly. It's win/win/win. CC/teammates/team will win.
Caitlin is such a smart, generous team leader. Her teammates are realizing that CC is giving up the opportunity to take a shot, to set up her teammates to go for it.
exactly: she's generous. it's not about her, it's about the team. so they all win.
Fever just beat a team that has 3 players going to the Olympics this year :)
“Every one of her turnovers (off passes) is sloppiness on her part”
Not true. Sometimes her fault. Sometimes her teammates just fumble a beautiful pass.
This game.they were honestly..I was at the game he's right...her turnovers this game were on her just sloppy throws
he wasn't generalizing (because your point is perfectly valid, in general) -- he was talking about this game.
I think you’re right … they need to let CC run the ball up the court and let her decide where it’s going. If she causes a turnover, likely the next one won’t be her percentages are good enough
I think some of her misses might be that she wasnt feeling well...had a migraine.
Thank you for a great analysis
Great breakdown and analysis, and I agree! 100% CC's court vision is such a gift and is sooo entertaining to watch that she's making a believer out of everyone. As her coaches buy into it more, along with the rest of her teammates, this CC vision-lead style of play becomes more and more infectious and rewarding for all who choose to participate.
They've been icing her out the ENTIRE season! They can't handle her passes! Sides and the team are sabotaging her rookie season!
Reality punched Diana in the face and she ran away after the game 😂
That was probably the biggest crowd Dianasaur Taurasiaurus ever played in front of. Maybe the pressure got to her. 🤔
Don't be daft, she played at UCONN. 😅
You sound wacky, she played at UCONN. 😅
You need to trade mark. Good things happen. I can't wait to listen to your commentary
How do you not have more subscribers.
New channel. Stick around and help him grow. Watch the whole video, give a like and a comment, it all adds up. And I agree, he deserves its.
Spot on analysis, Carter. Love the interaction between SALT and PEPPER, (Clark and Boston)!!!
Just saw an Olympic ad for USA basketball. “America’s greatest basketball players” was the tagline. You know who I saw? Stephen Curry. Jayson Tatum. Lebron James. Among others.
Know who I didn’t see? Diana Taurasi. Britney Griner. Know who else I didn’t see? Caitlin Clark. I wonder why they didn’t feature any women. Oh. Right. They said “America’s greatest basketball players”.
Gotta wonder, tho. If CC22 is on the team you think the women get featured as well? Hmmmmmm.
Just sayin’ …
As usual, excellent analysis. When the Fever are struggling, it is when Caitlin is either on the bench or she is not handling the ball.
Another great game, another great video from you. No lies were told here. Keep up the good work!.
Caitlin has now proven herself over and over again. I hope she has the whole team's full trust now and hopefully they ride this wave. Like you said, she sees everyone and she will reward them, they just gotta play their parts.
Great job! To your point about wanting her to take the shot, there was a whole lot of low % shooting around the league by great guards yesterday. It happens to everyone! As for Kelsey getting to the right spot, Fever players in most games, have not flowed to the open spaces created, when 2 or more of the opponents players are totally preoccupied with Clark. The best teams all know how to do this instinctively and as a result get many wide open shots.
Wow.. that was a Magnificent Analysis, now I'm starting to vision all your videos, your suppose to be in WNBA Panels, thanks Man for this videos, your fan here in the Phil's...always tune in for you.
Peace..😊
in my opinion, this time not only Kelsey has matched with CC, but also Wheeler
After seeing this video I'm absolutely convinced that, as some people have suggested, Sides should be replaced by a male, black coach. I think that you are the one. You are my choice😂.
I appreciate your analysis of Caitlin Clark's game vision. My looking a basketball is new. As hockey and baseball fan, without the slightest interest this sport until I watched Caitlin Clark play. Understanding that Logo 3's are a play that most players at any level have part of their skill set. I was impressed. Then I saw her passing game and it reminded me of hockey's Great One. While she may need to fine tune the actual passes, her teammates need learn to receive better. Being a playmaker can be her greatest strength. The scoring systems in baseball and hockey are very different but in both there must often be a playmaker who assists the scorer. Caitlin Clark can be masterful facilitator.
Great analysis, it's why I always look for your posts. I can't watch the games, but it doesn't matter because it's better to see through your eyes than my own.
Carter, really like your show!
great video. and if they let CC play her game, everyone should get better shooting % too. everyone will be happy.
Starting to look like a team now..
I like the way you break down the game
Thanks, Carter! Great analysis! Love your positive energy!
That was my favorite game so far! So good!
That game was so much fun to watch. Stressful but fun! Impressive video as always!
Can you analyze the furst 7 minutes of the 4th quarter when Wheeler was playing PG? That's when they lost the lead it seems.
The fever should’ve been watching your videos for analysis W video bro
It is Iowa Run and Gun, and should have been known and coached/utilized from the first practice day!!
