      @Jeffrey Brannon that's easy for you to say, most likely never having been in a position where you're trying to get very sensitive information from a source, where some degree of trust is necessary in order to demonstrate faith in them. It was a calculated gamble that sadly didn't pay off, however on countless other occasions it has worked...or they wouldn't do it...

    I can imagine the vehicle search rules were drastically altered after this. On the bases I deployed to in Iraq, not a single vehicle was allowed through the gates that wasn't thoroughly searched. On one base it occasionally caused miles of backed up truck traffic, but that was the cost of not dying via VBIED inside your own wire. Seeing an unsearched car rolling up on them gave me serious cringes.

      Security has often been far too lax on US bases for a very long time. I used to get on an RAF TAC base in the '80s by waving my open wallet at the windshield as I passed at about 20 mph. I knew they couldn't read it or identify it at that speed and they sure couldn't ID the three KGB in the car with me. Now, I didn't have, but any passengers with me never had to show ID. Clearly, that was just wrong.

I called it in as a possible VBIED (Vehicle Bourne Improvised Explosive Device), and Idiot Major ordered me to have one of my men go up and "Look in the Window of the Car to Confirm it was a VBIED!"
      My face showed how angry I was! Before I could frame an appropriate reply (on the Recorded channel for BN HQ, because I was requesting EOD); a fellow NCO blew up the vehicle with an AT-4!
      Secondary explosions were loud enough that HQ more than 10 km away heard, and the Major was yelling, demanding to know "WTF!"
      Calmly I told him I could Confirm it was a VBIED!
      The major was quite Pissed, however, he realized he would be even More Stupid to complain to our Superiors that I refused to order one of my soldiers, or myself walk up to a VBIED and look inside!

    Chapman was named after SFC Chapman who was killed during Operation Anaconda March of 2002 in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. He was leading a number of
    trucks filled with fighters recruited by the US. His convoy was struck by an AC-130..by mistake. A number of others were killed also. Chapman is in Khost Province near Salerno which is an operational base..at that time with elements of the 82nd. Chapman became a launch point for CIA and other operations along the Pakistan Border. This tragic incident was the highest death toll since the bombing of the embassy in Beirut years earlier. North of Chapman as due west was where Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire. So absolutely true!! That’s what’s really so tragic about this whole movie. It’s amazing to me how the CIA and Hollywood create a propaganda film that glorifies our presence in the Middle East as if the U.S. is the hero to the rescue. I never looked to anyone of these people as heroes at all. The Western presence is a continuation of the Crusades. Nothing has changed…It’s simply the West stealing the resources of another weaker nation. And what does it really all boil down to…real estate…OIL!!! Black Gold!! and a bunch of Westerners trying to advance their government careers all in the name of selling them “cheap democracy.”

    • @pwnage1731
      @pwnage1731 3 года назад

      Ehh, I can understand your feelings given the scene, but don't conflate this with the real experience of many CIA officers. I can assure you alot of those "civilian desk jockeys" are fairly experienced and have more time deployed abroad than many service members (and many of them are veterans themselves). And while they aren't front line troops, they have definitely faced their fair share of danger.
      Also, if you've watched the movie, you know that Jessica had 1) survived a car bombing earlier in the film and 2) had spent alot of time developing al-Balawi as a potential source. So the "never been shot at" and the "bag and tag" comments are off base.
