It sounded like a wish fulfillment fanfic that you would find on Wattpad. What made it even more unconvincing was the part about her being pregnant and her husband forbidding her from doing things. That’s a line I’ve read SO many times in fanfictions it’s not even funny lmao. Honestly, it was entertaining, but it definitely wasn’t real. It may have been written by a teenage girl tho.

I hate the woman in the story who made her husband get rid of his dog. I'd get rid of any man before I ever got rid of my dog. Then she decided to berate her husband for being gay. Right I thought “oh this is the moment when she’ll realize the gravity of what she did” but nope… just remorseless. She lived with her husband for at least 2 years, met with his lover countless times and yes he cheated but if he cheated with a woman she would have slapped him and been done with it, her actions were disgusting. Maybe I'm alone on this, but the mom who realized her way to save herself and her children from an abusive man was to give up her freedom and children... I'm going to say that is a brave woman.
I don't think many people understand just how hard it is to get away from an abuser. She turned herself in, getting him arrested in the process, and separated herself from her children so she could get clean herself before making an honest effort to be a good mother.
If ever you need an anecdote for sacrifice, this is it. Not working a crap job for the mortgage, not settling down with someone you don't like to keep your parents happy; but giving up the privilege of being a parent to make sure your kids thrive somewhere you may never reach them again. Consider that the kids may have gone to the system and they may have never found out their mother threw herself under the bus. The mother took responsibility and held herself accountable. She made a decision and took action to make sure their lives did not get any worse. She did not allow irrational instinct to hold on to the kids. This is the kind of parent I would give a lung or kidney to so they could have a second chance.
I'm not sure if people are capable of understanding what it means to abdicate control of your kids if they're not a parent themselves, but since becoming a parent my entire scale for how much I can love and care increased by an order of magnitude... I honestly think the mother in this story saw no option left, and expected she are the kids was about to either die or be killed. There is almost nothing I wouldn't do to be available and accessible to my kids, and nobody I wouldn't hurt either. The mother in this story is my hero for today, because of the shame and remorse she willingly shouldered to see her kids get to safety. This is a mother letting herself drown so she could keep her kids high up where they could breathe. That phone call she made was the moment she earned the honour of being called a mother.
I am close to someone who has acted similarly for her kids. She pulled the plug on her situation where everyone was miserable, and made some difficult choices to improve her circumstances. She assumed responsibility for her prior choices and moved on with her kids, putting their wellbeing first. She has decided to become the woman she deserves to be, and I expect most people who meet her nowadays have no notion of the life she endured beforehand.

I think the first story is AI, as I heard the same exact story with some small differences. It wasn’t the mother but a buxom aunt that cheated with the exBF and he wasn’t Italian. Everything else was the same.

I never want to hear anything else from the woman of that memoir. It was clear from the jump in how the arrangement was written that the "marriage of convenience" between her and the Vicker *was* to benefit both of them: she would be given the freedom to dance or be loose to her heart's content and he would have the cover to be homosexual in peace. He cheated on her because the *expectation* was she would cheat on him. She was already not a 'faithful' woman by the same metric of judgement that she is casting upon others of that time. She didn't get the memo, he gave her all of the signs without outright saying it, because he couldn't outright say it, and then she chose violence against him. She should have known it would be violence against him. She's responsible for the death of the Vicker's partner and for his years of suffering.
With all due respect to the OP, murderers can probably make decent fathers/mothers too in hiding. I would rather read a memoir from the Vicker than from her and her self important, victimhood writing.
