  • The Scottish Railway Preservation Society have come to an agreement with Fife Heritage Railway, for the loan and cosmetic restoration of steam locomotive Andrew Barclay 2046, British Aluminium Company No.3
Built in 1937 it served its whole working life at the bauxite reduction works in Burntisland, Fife. Being donated to the SRPS in 1989.
As the locomotive is too small for use on passenger service, it has been stored outside for a number of years, subject to the elements. It is the wish of FHR to bring it back home and cosmetically restore it back to former glory.
Also on this video No.20 Wemyss Private Railway Built by Andrew Barclay in 1939 (Works No.2068).
One of Britain’s largest 0-6-0 designs and used on the extensive Weymss Private Railway system in East Fife.
This Engine is in poor mechanical condition although it is hoped that the boiler should only need a re-tube. There are several cracks in the frames which will need to be repaired and the trailing axle is below scrapping size. A spare set of axles complete with new tyres is in stock for this engine. These wheel sets have had the journals skimmed and tyres profiled.
The motion and brake gear has now been removed the boiler stripped and lifted out of the frames and loaded onto a Lowmac wagon.

I know it costs a lot of money to restore and maintain this old stuff and it can't all be saved, but I'm always excited when a piece of equipment gets chosen!

Growing up in Fife meant trips to Kirkcaldy and a view of the steam engines lining the entrance to Thomas Muirs scrapyard between Thornton and Kirkcaldy, just down from Peatmans garage. Does anybody know whatever happened to those locomotives after the yard was closed down and cleared? There was quite a few of them lining the entrance, maybe ten or more?
