The Twist and Shout Club was a cramped little bar in the basement of the VFW building in Bethesda, MD ( right next to my office! ). It was really a Dive….linoleum floor, missing ceiling tiles…….But they booked the best bands, R&R, Blues, Roots Rock, Bluegrass, etc and Beausoleil was a Cajun band that MCC especially loved ( She lived in the DC area at the time ).
I was there the night Bob Dylan showed up ( wearing a long trench coat in the middle of Summer!? ) to see the Sun Rhythm Section band…..Elvis’ former drummer DJ Fontana was in the band.
MCC has SO many other great songs for you to check out! The Hard Way, He Thinks He’ll Keep Her, I Take My Chances, When Haley Came to Jackson ( perhaps the most beautiful song ever written! ).
    Love your channel!

Don, since you liked this MCC classic, I'd definitely recommend some great Cajun/Louisiana country artists for the channel - the recently deceased Jo-El Sonnier ("Tear Stained Letter"), the late Jimmy C. Newman ("Alligator Man") and my favorite - the ragin' cajun, fiddler extraordinaire Doug Kershaw ("Diggy Liggy Lo" and "Louisiana Man"). A "live" performance of Kershaw is a must, and he's in his late 80s now. There are so many good Louisiana artists to explore, including Beausoleil (who she mentions in the song). It's great that you reacted to this one!

Jo-El also appeared on "Catahoula" with The Bellamy Brothers and Eddy Raven.
LOVE "Tear Stained Letter," too, BTW.

I would also like to request a song by Bill Anderson, Papaw's Sunday Boots from a Country's Family Reunion video, please find the one that explains the origin of the song it's pretty heart wrenching.
Oh also my crazy name is because my daughter and I use to sell make-up 😂

I am very familiar with this song and know a few of her other songs, and am absolutely shocked to learn that she is from New Jersey. This song is definitely a cajun/gulf coast flavor and I always assumed she was from that part of the country. In fact, she even has a version of this song where she sings the chorus in a creole language (search Down At The Twist And Shout (Live - Super Bowl XXXI) and go to the 1:50 mark to hear it).

Don, you should check out some of the songs mentioned in the comments. Jo-El Sonnier always played the accordion (sp?) I also like to watch people dancing to Cajun music. It seems to be a form of the jitterbug for the faster songs and sometimes a waltz for slower ones. I don't know how anyone can listen to Cajun music and sit still for long. Now that you mention it - I think Mary came from the Princeton, NJ, area.

I'm pretty sure they did do a video to it. I haven't heard this song in years!! 💗 It's one of the main songs I think of with MCC al8ng with Passionate Kisses.
Also, I'm pretty sure clogging would fot the beat of this song. 💃

Yes, Mary Chapin produced a music video for this song that received a ton of airplay back in the day on TNN and CMT. This was one of her biggest country hits in the early 1990s. Also, Don recently reacted to "Passionate Kisses" as recorded by the original singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams.

@dennisking7872 I never watched MTV, but after school CMT was on non-stop so I have a ton of core memories of watching CMT when I was supposed to be doing my homework back when it was just music videos.

I would say it is more be-bop, then clog.

Dance question...the cajun 2 step. Which is similar to a regular 2 step except you shuffle your feet to go faster (bars and dance halls when I was coming up would sand their floors before fais-do-dos to make the sliding easier.)

If you want to hear about Louisiana you should listen to Dolly's version of "House of the Rising Sun" in a red dress in a smoky nightclub.

Good song, but I love her more folky/story telling songs better. A few that I love: "This Shirt", "Down in Mary's Land", and "Rhythm of the Blues".

" let the good times roll!" Never will you have a better time than at a louisiana party whether its at a dance hall or in someones front yard. You gonna eat, drink, dance and love every minute!
You should try some Jimmy Newsom or Jo ell Sonnier or the king Doug Kershaw.
