I'm an aspiring email copywriter who has only used Upwork so far. And I must say, that flex you did should be clipped, put on Tiktok/YT shorts, and shown to the freelancer world. You will be the hero we all need. One of the coolest things I've seen in a while...
Love how you told that guy off! Got the impression that people on Upwork not only want work cheap but also incredibly fast! Normally (when you don't get a superstar like Rob as part of a challenge), cheap and fast = not very good. This was a nailbiter. Way to go Rob!
Thanks! Yeah, that's a really good point. The turnaround times were sometimes crazy. That $25 gig wanted the post the same day I signed the contract. I was like are you kidding me man!? But I do think leaning into that for a while could pay off, bc that built in review mechanism in upwork really helps signing future deals
Can you make a video showing the copy that you wrote through this challenge and your copywriting process? And also maybe show us the steps to take to go from not being good at copywriting making $0 a month to writing quality copy making $3K-$4K a month? I would be super happy with just making a few thousand dollars a month from writing copy! Great job making $11K!! Also maybe you can a video on how to talk to clients on the phone? I am really introverted and find this part intimidating.. Really great series Rob, excited to see more from you!
It takes more than a video with some tips and tricks to be a great copywriter! I self taught for months before buying a $2000 course to help accelerate my skills, plus joined 2 challenges where my copy was reviewed live and critiqued (in a good way) and then finally getting out there with my portfolio. There’s a lot more to Copywriting, to being a great copywriter, than a lot of these videos on RUclips will show you. You need the practical stuff! But, unfortunately, a lot of the Copywriters that are online want you to buy their course or program before giving you that practical advice and information. The give good tips on here to show that they know what they’re talking about, but at the end of the day they want you to buy their course. That’s where they make their money. It’s good marketing. Things that helped me were: books like Story Genius, Sell Like Crazy, and Influence. Second was the use of swipes and emails I enjoyed reading that I would then hand copy and dissect to see why it was written that way. Why certain words were used. How they tapped in to certain pain points and then moved onto the benefits and objections within the page, Etc. And find a successful copywriter that you respect. Dive deep into anything and everything they say in regards to writing copy. One successful copywriter said that you need to write bad copy and learn how to fix it in order become great. And that’s the truth! Take what C you already know and just start writing spec pieces for practice. Then edit and revise until it’s something you’d enjoy reading if you were a customer. Kyle Milligan is Another great source on RUclips. He gives a lot of practical advice and cuts through all the fluff.
just wanna say thank you very much for posting real world client acquisition. I will definitely use these strategies to get my first copywriting client. thank you again!
Rob, thank you so much for suffering through this challenge. I learned a lot in respect of the work it takes to reach out and then service each customer. Great job!
Thanks for your work, Rob. I liked that you even did this challenge. My take away is that if you keep at it, both ways can work. Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Came here from Chase's channel. And my mind is blown 💥 Wow the kind of content you have on this channel👍👍 Hats off to your efforts of these 30 days. I wonder why this youtube channel is this underrated. AMAZING WORK!!! SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks! Yeah, it was wild at the end! I couldn't believe I was doing a $25 1,000 word post but I was hoping the reviews would ultimate make up for it. And I think it paid off
Great series and great challenge. Was awesome to see how invested you were in it. Definitely loled at your flex and then ghost on that rude Upwork dude haha
Loved the flex haha, so satisfying. On a real note it's inspiring how hyped and excited you are about this relatively small amount of money. As a novice copywriter and email marketer your passion is infectious!
Powerful finale, Rob. You crushed it! For those comments readers, you gotta subscribe and watch Rob’s previous videos. It’s rare to see professional copywriters with real examples in RUclips. Rob’s email list rocks 🔥 He shared link to join in the video’s description.
Thank you for this video. I got fed up with upwork, I sent a lot of proposals last year. There was no reply, and it made me feel really bad and useless. Thank you for this challenge. I will try upwork this year. I hope it turns out good for me. I have never sent a cold email before. I will also try it and see the results. Your video has given me a push.
That flex changed his tone really quickly. He was probably kicking himself that you didn't respond after. I wonder if he's seen this video in his research of you. lol
Hahahahahahaha. So I loved all three videos!!! Your confidence is not that of a newbie at all! But see how it could be for a person just 'starting out' is encouraging. And boy did I love that flex!!!
thank you very much for this vid, I thought people just start copywriting and killing it. Glad to see I'm not a special case. Keep up the great work. this was very confidence building and ill never stop
Demonstration of doing the work. Inspiration for those who desire a result & income. Thanks for inviting your audience to observe as you wrote a new story.
Robert, that was great. Thanks so much for sharing. Did you have a particular niche that you were marketing to? I’ve heard that cold emailing works if done right. Glad to hear your thoughts on it. 🙏🏾
Thanks Sandy! For the cold email side of things, yes I did. I mostly focused on email program management for health/wellness ecommerce brands. Email is the focus for me, but I just choose health/wellness because it's something I'm passionate about. For Upwork, I had to take whatever I could get haha
Thank You for creating this. It showed me 2 paths. One that they both work and two that you just keep doing this and you will be busy.. maybe 999 NO's before a $4000 contract
Hey Robert -- great video, and very helpful, thanks! Please could you point me to the video where you originally sent out the cold emails? I'm about to start a similar campaign and would love some extra direction. Thanks!
Can you please share the cold emails you were sending? Because some people might not realize that they need to hire a copywriter. Should I focus on making the acknowledge that need or simply introduce my services and let it for them to decide what they need?
Haha..Great work leaving the rude client on read...lol One major issue I have with cold emails is looking for leads...too tiring. How did you do that and how long did it take? Could you please share your cold emails and upwork proposals? I'd love to take a look at them. Thanks for sharing this. Pretty amazing stuff👍
Thanks! Yeah, it's quite a bit of work. I spent probably 30ish minutes on each cold email to a prospect. If you missed the first video update on Cold Emailing, I went into a bit more depth on it!
I loved following you through this! Did you track how much time you spent working "in" upwork or "doing" your cold emails? I'd be curious to know. Right now I've been just doing cold emails and have had some success but still would like to bring on more clients. Thanks for sharing all of this :)
Yeah, it was HEAVY in the beginning on cold email and heavy throughout on Upwork. I would easily estimate at least an hour per day just skimming and doing outreach and that average would take into account the days I didn't do any outreach at all. Some days I would do like 2-3 hours and others none. Hope that helps! Appreciate you!
Thanks a lot for doing this challenge! It was surprisingly entertaining (and informative too)! If you need ideas about future videos, I'd love a video explaining more of your email sequence! Like when you get hired to write emails for a company, what's your general process? Besides the "welcome emails" what other types of emails do you include in your autoresponder? I'd imagine you have a formula of sorts in which emails you write... Thanks a bunch.
I wish I had the ability to make even 1/3 of the money you did in 30 days lol. I know there is something I'm doing wrong but don't know what it is :( Also, I loved the background music that made everything more stressing and engaging haha
You keep mentioning writing a tailored outreach email to prospects, yet you don’t show examples of what you sent or recommend sending. Otherwise, great video.
Loved that flex lol
haha, my favorite was watching that tone shift
@@RobertAllenCopy yeah #FreelancingGoals

90% for that flex 😂
Definitely cheering for you during that flex 😂😂
LOL !

Thanks! Yeah, if I'd stopped on the last day, I'd have missed the biggest earnings of all!

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes! It was a looot! I'm excited to have no deadlines this week lol

6:48 haha. Great one Rob
LOL - thanks!
awesome journey!
This has been so much fun watching this series! I’m curious how many months was the $4k per month contract for?
Thanks Derek! I typically always do 3 or 6 month contracts, positioned as 90 or 180 day action plans
But why did you showed upwork client messages screenshot in email format and not the screenshot of upwork messages ?
Hey Robert, EPIC video bro! I'm super interested to get into freelance copywriting, any update on when enrollment for 30 days to 9k will open up?
Thanks so much! I actually just put the course into The Vault. No plans to reopen it, but lots of other good stuff coming soon! Will keep you posted
