- California's first-of-its-kind task force on reparations for Black Americans has submitted its final recommendations to the state legislature. The 1,200-page report is the result of two years of work that looked at how the state can best atone for the impact of slavery and decades of racial discrimination. Paying reparations is simply that - putting a patch on the problem. The recipients won’t be satisfied and they’ll come crying 2 years later for more - it’ll never be enough. And paying reparations won’t fix the systemic problems that are still so prevalent in society. All this will do is create more disillusionment and ill will on all sides.

@@TheGuided_One well a start could be a council with representation from ALL ethnicities that review cases and when they find systemic racism, have them decide on reparations for current atrocities. Ppl can’t argue against current events as easily as they can events that occurred decades ago. Plus, it would be addressing actual victims, not the descendants that may or may not be truly suffering from perceived injustices. There are some real victims out there, but we all also know that some ‘victims’ are ppl who just want an easy ride with no effort on their part.
And if you want to talk about reparations, where are the reparations for the businesses that are being looted and damaged and the communities that suffer because the looted businesses are pulling out?

Slavery in the United States lasted from 1619 to 1862 when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln. But California was was part of SPAIN and MEXICO until 1847. California did not become a State until 1850. So California was a free State for 12 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. So, why is California paying reparation when they were not even part of this Country for 243 years slavery existed. There were no Black residents in San Francisco in 1850 according the the census of 1850. So why is San Francisco apologizing for slavery? In California’s early days, few African Americans lived in the state. But the Black population surged during World War II, as Black Americans moved to the state to support the industrial war effort. This was in 1942 that same year that California interned the Japanese Americans and 10 years after the forced deportation of 600,000 Hispanic Americans to foreign countries. I am not understanding California paying reparations.

Globally, multicultural societies are on fire. Whenever, wherever dissimilar peoples are collocated the end result is, has always been and always will be CONFLICT. Why are there no social unrest in monocultural nations? Why are there no race riots in Japan?
Diversity is a weakness. We're all here so we have to deal with it, but it's certainly a hurdle that has to be overcome. This is a Christian country so religious unification would be the way to go, but there are inherent differences between races (IQ, ability to delay gratification, nation-building, etc.).

Before WW2 there were very few Black Americans in California. For most, the period of Jim Crow would be 1942-1964. Beyond 1864 Ave before 1942, the arguments for a class action award is minimal.
With that 1942-1964 period, is this a strong argument for reparations?
Between 1942-1946, Black Americans thrived as never before in war factories. So the case for injury would be weak.
That leaves 1946-1964 as the period where the argument for reparations would be solid.
However, wealth accumulation during that time was glacial. House prices were tiny. Most had pass book savings accounts.
So the injury for Black Californians would be minimal. Maybe $20k each? And only for those in CA during those years.
Others in CA longer would have an individual case that can grow that number.

Reparations were paid to the members of those groups who actually were effected. Reparations were not paid to their descendants.
