My friend up the street had this Boba Fett when it came out. I was pretty jealous. I have the Hot Toys 1/4 scale now. One of the stars of my collection.
Great video buddy! As a kid I had this Boba Fett and the Darth Vader in the large scale. Very fond memories, thank you for bringing them back my friend!
I have ordered myself the vintage Star Wars 13 in Boba-Fett action figure finally for my collection, I had the small Boba-Fett action figure when i as a kid but i always wanted to own this Boba-Fett large size action figure in my collection and now i finally will next week.
Kenner/Hasbro's 12 inch figure of the 1990s were hideous. They used the worst body ever designed by Hasbro...the 12 inch GI JOE Hall of Fame. Utter crap. The Stormtrooper had a gigantic head, yet Boba and Vader had heads way too small. The outfits were poor, and the armor was puffy and oversized because of the awful Hall of Fame bodies. I still can't believe they released such trash.
@James N I'm 40, and yeah, it was a good figure at the time. It was easy to replace my "Collectors series" one with the electronic talking Fett. Definitely a _huuuge_ upgrade.
I just paid for my 13 in Boba-Fett large size action figure yesterday, and the ebay seller i brought him from shipped him out to me yesterday and he will arrive to me on friday, iam looking forward to my 13 in Boba-Fett figure to finally join my collection this weekend, and i'm so excited.
Most of the sound effect toys by Star Wars use the tiny record like the original troop transport for the imperials. I can’t imagine them putting a little record inside Boba Fett and it lasting
There was a 50s or 60s toy that was a sci-fi robot or something like that and you turned a crank on the head and the little record would play sound effects and phrases, however, it was usually the first thing to break on it. I am willing to bet that if Kenner did release 13" Boba Fett with talking features and used the miniature record the same thing would happen.
Great video J.M. I love the paint on the Prototype!!. Incidentally....5:15 on your logo could be the start of another RUclips channel name for you....Man Junk!!😁👍
Junkman, do you know anything about a variation on the rocket head for the regular release figure? I had one with reinforced fins making it look like a broadhead arrow. Dont know if it's a foreign release or an improved variation.
Great video, very informative! One thing I think is interesting, and haven't seen mentioned here ( unless I missed it ), if you look closely at the prototype Fett, it looks like they used a Gi Joe muscle body figure, or at least parts from one, to make it. The upper legs, waist and upper arms look like just muscle body parts, with some extra sculpting and paint. I wonder if this prototype still exists anywhere?
@@ThatJunkman I see what you are saying, and that would make sense, as they used the Bionic Bigfoot to make the large size Chewbacca, but 1) remember early mock ups for the 3 3/4" figures were made from Fisher Price Adventure People, also a different company. 2) The Six Million Dollar Man figures had a different body style than MB Joes. If you look at that proto, and an MB Joe, you'll see the similarities in the thighs, waist and upper arms. I'm looking at it again, and it's possible the upper arms had some added sculpt to make them look more muscular. The SMDM figures had no muscle definition in the upper arms. The waist is totally different than SMDM. That waist on the proto, is v shaped and has a sort of ball and socket design in the hips. MB Joes do also. SMDM waist has basic up and down articulation. The thighs/upper legs look to have the same shape as MB Joes as well. Since you brought up SMDM, the hands on this proto could be from those figures, they don't look like the kung fu grip hands Joe had at the time. I wonder if they mated lower arms from SMDM and upper arms from Joe? Or maybe just the hands. This is possible, since the original MB Joe design was very weak in the shoulders, elbows and neck, the rubber bands used to hold those parts together dry rotted very quickly. It's why today when you find MB Joes, they are usually headless and armless, unless they have been repaired. I apologize for sounding like a know it all, I don't mean to. Being a toy collector and doing customizing/repair/restoration, I just notice these things lol. It really does become a sickness at some point I guess. :) Thanks again for the video, it really is excellent. I didn't know the jet pack missile was intended to fire and that they had planned electronics originally, that would have been great. It makes me want to attempt these mods on a beater large size Fett.
It's funny I wasn't much of a Star Wars fan. In fact I have learned more about Star Wars watching RUclips than I ever thought I would. This video is just another example of something new I learned today
Very nice video- too bad we never got this kick-ass figure! P.S.: I would pay *real* money to see you and Dan Larsen (Toy Galaxy) talk Star Wars/Boba Fett!!!
No, I didn't know about the Boba Fett action figure large scale. I'm always learning about cool obscure figures and stuff on your Channel and I love it!
Don't fully get this as I had the large one released in the early 80's at the time I couldn't stand the character and he would regularly fly out of my bedroom window. When Phantom menace came out in had some memorabilia guide with the film and it said in 1999 it was valued at £1400:00 and was gutted but now I don't know if that was the one I had in the 80's ore the one released on 1996!! Oh well you live and learn,my mom bagged all of my star wars toys and donated them to a children's home,I was not happy to say the least.
Han Solo says his name in Return of the Jedi. His name was also spoken way back in 1978 during the Holiday Special animated segment, as well as years later in the Droids cartoon episode " A Race to the Finish". A Kiwi accent isn't going to change that.
@@jamiebraswell5520 Yeah I know.,but I figure his Father (the Master Clone) would be the one to pronounce it correctly. I also know Boba himself refers to himself as Bow-ba in the Clone Wars but his Dad still used Bob-ba twice in AOTC? (No malice or trolling intended) Han also says Folcon
I had the big bobba fett figure. It was awesome! You forgot to mention his magnifying eye lol. I had the big vader and r2 also. They weren't very practice though, I preferred the standard figures. Great video Junkman! 😁👍
I’ve got the one they released in the 90s kicking around somewhere. They were more into the doll style at that time so it wasn’t as much for play as display.
Sounds like it would have been nice. I think I'm okay with what we did get. If we were flooded with lots of different toys with one character back then would they have been "forced" (hehe) to sacrifice some of the other toys they offered? Production capabilities were very different then compared to now.
Man, this woulda been my "ride or die" homie back in the day! I would've had my man Boba in every picture taken n stuff. School, bed, whatev! Reminds me, there's a great school pic of me with a Ramones haircut rockin my Fett Underoos shirt. Gotta find that...
1st✊ Great video junkman ! I remember in advance comics, they were trying to get rid of factory sealed boxes of 3&3/4 return to the Jedi figures-CHEAP!!!🤦♂️
The standard 12" figures were way more expensive relative to 3 3/4" figures back in the 90s in Toy Shop magazine. That's totally reversed now. I think I can remember seeing them MISB for $500 or so which was way out of reach. But that makes that $700 first shot even seem like more of a bargain!
Great subject, Great video! I had one of those 3 3/4 linch mail in deals back in the day absolutely my favorite, my cousin destroyed it (accidentally)! Ya'know what she said! "BOBAFETTNEVERDIDDONOTHIN!!"!!!
Hey JM, maybe u can help me on this. Watching this vid, it reminded me of a toy my cousins had. My younger brother remembers this too. It was about 1.5-2 ft tall, looked just like Boba Fett, but his fist shot off and he had a rope and grappling hook on other hand. His jetpack didnt fire if i remember that right. He looked on same scale as the Godzilla and Shogun Warrior thing that did the fist-rocket thing. Legs didnt move either, but head turned sise to side. Now, I'm trying to figure out if this is a) real, or B) a Mandela-effect thing, or c) an amalgam of the large size Fett i DID have n loved with some other toy in my scrambled kid memory banks. Any help on this would rock, and being that you are the man, you were my go-to on this. (* when i say "looked like Fett", i mean if it wasnt Fett, it was a super close knock off. Like lawsuit-close. We remember it as being just a big, hollow plastic Fett toy we actually werent all that impressed with at the time. )
@@ThatJunkman ok. Maybe its one of those things...gonna see if it shows up in any old xmas pics. Thats when we visited those cousins. I'll let u know if it does. Very well coulda been a bootleg knockoff deal.

Bobby Fett origin story;
After Hank died Peggy Hill remarried to Jeb Fett the used car salesman and Bobbys name was changed too.
Kenner actually did make a good 12 inch Boba Fett figure in the 90s it was electronic with a cloth outfit and everything.
Yes. I didn’t like it myself.

Good research in this one.
"Size matters not. Judge me by my size do you?"
The only thing I can’t get over for that figure is his long neck
Hmmm, “I wants it. I needs it.
