I think what makes Jeff McNeil so good at placing the ball in baseball is actually another sport, Golf. It's been said that Jeff is also so good at Golf that he actually had to decide whether to pursue baseball or become a pro golfer.
I went to a Mets game against the Nats in 2018 and my uncle got on field passes during batting practice, and during that players can come and sign stuff for every one. Well no one came out because there was a little league world series team there and all the players went to see them so none of the players came to see us except for Jeff McNeil he went to every fan and signed stuff and took pictures and I got a signed ball and a pic with him and ever since that day I've been a huge fan of his!!! btw I loved this video please keep them coming
and everyone made fun of the way he chokes up on his bat when he came up cuz that's basically unheard of in today's game. he essentially plays like a player from the 70's-80's and thats totally against how the game is played today
You know, they have a word for this in chess as well: the magicians, a very rare breed of player that refuses the orthodox and plays in a way so stupid, that every win simply comes off as an upset. And yet, they never fail to take down the legendary players that supposedly reign above them. I'm glad other sports have the joy of these living plot holes as well. Great video!
When you mentioned the components of expected stats all I could think about was Tony Gwynn, now the namesake of the NL batting title, and how those expected stats wouldn't have favored him at all. He rarely hit for power or pop but always put balls in play, that paired with his amazing plate vision led to him winning 8 titles.
Anomalies in sports are always super interesting to analyse -- players who have an interesting or different manner of playing, and are more successful because of it.
The game needs more players like Jeff McNeil. Not everyone should be trying to hit 20-30 HRs a season. Guys who try to make contact and hit .300 are what turns over lineups and helps increase pitcher's pitch counts. Sprinkle a couple Jeff McNeils, Brett Butlers, or Juan Pierres into your lineup and you won't become so reliant on hitting HRs to score runs.
Your video aged poorly. McNeil had 1 solid season where he managed to win the batting title with contact hitting, now hes a below average player getting benched.
He hits 'em where they ain't, which will always result in success. I'm tired of the home run/power hitting stats being the driving force in baseball these days. The game was developed on the premise of moving a man 90 feet with each subsequent at-bat. Small ball works. Don't get me wrong; I'll take the homers when they come. I just don't want to rely on getting them when the game is on the line. Give me four guys who can hit around .300 rather than two guys who can hit 35 HR a year.
Jeff is a weak hitter in the same way Greg Maddux was a weak pitcher. They both know that success in the game doesn't always need power. That's where the real beauty of baseball lives.

I think I remember hearing about that somewhere but I never even considered that perspective. That's really interesting
@@PlayertoBeNamedLater he does seem to like pitches low and away
And golf will always be there when he’s north of 35

It's awesome to hear that he's an amazing player on and off the field, great story!

as a melee player, sounds like borp tbh
Jeff McNeil is right out of the 80s.. I love it.
He's a complete fossil of a player and it's amazing

Yeah it seems like there's always gonna be players like that no matter what generation we're in
This video had me caring about a player I knew nothing about. Great first video!
I love McNeil but he never provided gold glove defense. He’s versatile defensively, but not gold glove.
Fantastic two videos I just watched from you. Please keep making more. This is the best new baseball channel of 2023.
Thank you so much!
Bro deserves so much more than 66 subs. Remember me when you're famous
Thank you so much man!

Well, this hasn’t aged very well.
2/10/23 a future legend was born
Yessir
the fact you don’t even have 10 subs is horrid great video on the squirrel
Thank you so much! I'm definitely aiming to keep on growing from here
so what you are saying and stay with me here is that he is good at hitting
You may be onto something there
ITS ALL ABOUT THE METS BABYYYY
Learn something new everyday and now I like baseball a little bit more (also good meme)
You've got a winning formula for youtube. Keep it up!

A contact hitter hitting to get on base is something confusing and rare these days.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Irregardless isn't a word
I fact checked myself... I was wrong...
But you are right to point out the fact that most educated people consider irregardless as a fake word. Regardless is the preferred word.
Also super well-made video!
I came for the baseball but stayed for the persona music.

Irregardless is a double negative
According to Merriam-Webster, irregardless is a synonym of regardless. Thank you for commenting though, I hope you enjoyed the video!
@@PlayertoBeNamedLater i hear the jury is still out on Merriam-Webster. I loved the video. I still say irregardless is redundant ;)
@@danielsmith2982 I suppose we can agree to disagree on this one
@@PlayertoBeNamedLater fair enough. Lgm
