  • Sunday Shogi where we analyse viewers game had a nice topic in it. Thought you might enjoy. Check out the ending where we do a practical example! Eye-opener for some?

One thing I always though would be a nice experiment is to play a shogi game with classical chess time controls. Byoyomi does bring excitement, but I would also like to see potentially brilliant endgame combinations when top players have a long time to think. I know they are very skilled in finding great endgame moves quickly, but maybe we would witness something really special much more often if the players had a lot more time to think in the endgame.

Actually Fischer time setting was really popular a few years ago, played on abema TV (i played as well :) )

@ShogiHarbour Yeah, some shogi apps use the increment, but I would still like to see a game played with classical chess time controls - two hours to play 40 moves and then get an additional hour. Of course, these lengths would need to be adjusted to shogi games, which are generally longer than chess games. Imagine if you had an hour on the clock and the endgame is just starting. 🙂 Classical chess games rarely end with a time scramble and I cannot help but think that, no matter how good you are at shogi endgames, you will still make suboptimal moves when under constant time pressure, as its almost like blitz chess at that point. I don't think that a time format where you're rarely in a true time pressure would be a bad thing in shogi.

You can just do it in your usual games. Use all of your time and don't let opponent pressure you. Chess has a different time setting, so not sure :) This is specifically for byoyomi which gets renewed each move.

For chess, if you are playing with delay, then that's very similar to byoyomi once ur low on time, but most places these days use increment instead, so u do get some more benefit from making obvious moves quickly ya
