  • Like most of us Edward Norton did not come fully formed. Out of a love for film and a desire to create, Ed did tons of research in order to get to where he is today.

Thank you for Edward Norton. I find him one of THE most interesting of all the people you've had on your show. I could watch him for hours and hours.

When the shooting stops... is amazing! The chapter on Annie Hall blew my mind. The original movie was 3 hours long!

80/20 rule. They always see the 20% but never the 80% it took to get there. Become obsessed with the 80% rather than the 20%

Good advice for any creator, beyond just filmmaking. Writers, musicians, visual artists all need to understand how the works they admire were made if they want to make the same.

I've read Ralph Rosenblum's book on editing. It's a pretty dry read but if you're interested in how the sausage is made, you should read it.

I've never read it, but seems like a perfect commentary on the book itself. It's specifically not meant to be like poetry, but rather if you want to revel in all the dirt underneath the fingernails.

The books he mentioned like Projections, and Scorsese on Scorsese, does anyone know if Amazon has these? Is there a link someone can send me?

It’s called being an actual flawed human being on camera. Watch this vs any DiCaprio interview. 90 percent of his interviews are obviously things he’s worked out days weeks months beforehand. This is how anybody would talk working thoughts out in real time while simultaneously knowing your on camera, without a second take or a script. I think many of us would sound similar if not even more scattered.

@@dwellynconway4721 I second that! I was so surprised to read the comment from henn863 as I think of Ed Norton as one of the most intelligent actors out there ... as well as being highly sensitive/intuitive and also KIND. I have noticed that I (and everyone around me) have been struggling, the past couple of weeks, to find words that are JUST out of reach. It is beyond annoying. But I didn't notice this in the interview. At any rate, I find Norton to be one of the most INTERESTING and thoughtful actors and could listen to him for hours.

Andrea Andrea thanks for sharing. Totally get it. I’ve noticed that too actually. It’s odd to see someone say it. go see Motherless Brooklyn by the way! I was literally alone in the theater, (which was kind of great in its own way but), it sucks cos it’s obviously not getting the credit it deserves... if you enjoy a movie your not necessarily gonna follow the first time an your willing to take the ride, seriously.. go see it. I’ll probably go see it with a friend of mine again before it’s out of theaters.. :) (i swear I’m not like, a ‘bot’ by the way, it really was a good movie and I figured I’d recommend it to someone who obviously likes ed Norton).

@@dwellynconway4721 Thank you! (I know you're not a bot!) Weird with the word thing, isn't it? (I've noticed it's better now). Because Alzheimers runs in our family, it completely freaked me out to be struggling with words (my father was a professor of English, so words are our currency). So I began asking everyone around me and EVERYONE said they were having the same experience. (Reassuring!!) How great to have the theatre all to yourself!! But, as you said, not great for the movie. Still, movies have their own life and perhaps it will pick up...? Hopefully. I will see it. I LOVE Ed Norton.
