can't deny he's entertaining... if he was a true protagonist I feel he'd be hated, but as a side-character type he's a good comparison to the more stoic and serious Ryu... almost like a wrestling 'Heel' in some ways... you see them act over the top, cocky and arrogant which makes them fun to watch wether they win or lose.

Takuma puts him to train like Ryo & co. did back then , and then Dan becomes unstoppable envolving his Saikyo style .
Not entirely true, he was barred from training under the same teacher as ryu and ken because he harbored vengeful thoughts about a man who killed his father in front of his face. He then worked hard to develop his fighting style with woefully incomplete understanding of martial arts, the spirit, and other necessary pieces of info. A man with less ego would have given up long before.

His Super Taunt could be canceled by his Ultra, and the sheer idea of Dan Winning would add pressure and make them have mistakes. That's the interpretation of Dan I like. Even in his debut in Alpha, Dan did a ton of damage if he connected, so even as a joke character you had to take the match seriously. It's only in later Alpha games that they really reduced his damage output.
He's also clearly a talented martial artist, but his mentality is terrible and holding him back from coming anywhere close to his full potential. His Gadoken is a perfect example - Dan is good enough to do one-handed fireballs, but he refuses to just do a conventional two-hander even if it would vastly improve the Gadoken. On the other hand, given what Kage's like maybe Dan IS actually living up to his full potential.
Whenever a character in a long-running series gets representation like this, it always makes me happy because it means someone on the team seeks to display personality through gameplay beyond taunts, which I always appreciate.
On the topic of personality, I feel like MK11 is copying SFV to a certain extent. Nobody really cared about Rambo and Rain, but when Mileena was showcased, you know people bought the game just so they could try that sassy bitch out. Between watching her plat Stabberscotch on her opponent's face, and just her posing like Jojo's while her ghost sais stabbed people from all directions, I felt like there was a lot more personality in her fighting style than had ever been showcased in previous MK entries. Dan's so expressive in his animations, but SFV has been experimenting with idle animations since season 2. Now they've set something of a wild standard since it's a new but compelling method of simplistic story-telling through a character's body language.
The best way that he’s a victim of his own hubris is when he pulls off his legendary taunt. In SFV, Dan actually takes more damage while in the middle of the Legendary Taunt. If you wait until the tail end of it, a well placed Critical Art can erase his whole health bar.
Rufus is more of a goof-ball character than a 'Joke' one, his moves may look stupid and his ego and design is too, but in gameplay he's actually quite effective... Dan is purposely made to be 'bad' in terms of his full gameplay.
Dan is a perfect example of a joke character done right. His taunts give the opposite what they need to take him down. and nowhere is that more apparent, than with his LEGENDARY TAUNT.🤣 But if used correctly, Dan will get the last laugh. Get ready World, with my Saikyo Arts, Ima teach u how to be awesome at a Fuckin Infinite!
I also like that it's another Art of Fighting reference in which taunts were a mechanic that drained meter from the opponent. Only now, they "Dan-ified" it.
Dan's V-Skill taunts giving the opponent V-Meter is also a form of taunt in of itself. Just by playing Dan, you are saying to the opponent, "Here, have some meter! I bet you still can't beat me!" It's salt, reified as a gameplay mechanic.
@@jamesjoe4654 because it helps you way more. The taunt let's you cancel basically any move in his kit leading to a bunch of crazy shit most characters can't do
Personally, I always saw Dan as less "lousy" and more "lousy compared to the rest of the cast". He's certainly weaker than pretty much every other major SF character, but still considerably stronger than any "ordinary" human within his verse; in one of the comics he stomped a group of illuminati goons, all by himself. So, while Dan may have potential, it is ultimately wasted as he chooses to *act* strong rather than *be* strong.
Actually Dan is much stronger than he appears, but in different ways. He has actually achieved a set goal and as a consequence had to review his goals. He is also observant and empathic about others, though may appear inconsiderate or full of himself. He also never gives up and keeps pushing further and further.
Remember, a one handed fireball is a sign of immense skill. Meaning if he just used two hands he'd have a normal fireball, but just doesn't because he wants to do the version reserved for master.
Dan being highly technical actually makes perfect sense to me. Dan is weaker in canon so you as the player have to work much harder to get the same kind of results out of him. Dan's techniques are inconsistent because he doesn't practice them, so if somebody wins with Dan to me it canonically represents what happens if Dan happens to do everything right.
Actually Dan does practice, but unlike many others in verse he has had to learn all by himself with very little guidance. In modern sports comparison he might be that one part-time fighter who will always show to up to fight whoever he must fight to earn some dough while his foes are those who have sponsors and whole team behind them.
Fun fact you might not have known at the time of making this video: To further drive home his self defeating nature, if you super taunt and the opponent lets it rock all the way (AS THEY SHOULD), it gives both players full meter and v-gauge. But Dan also takes about triple damage during recovery. That ensures that, if the opponent chooses to do so, they can go straight into their own super and one-shot Dan on the spot
One of my favorite jokes with Dan portrayed him similarly to this. He managed to launch a car into the air in one punch, which is extremely impressive. Or it was, until the car landed on him and broke most of his bones
Joke characters in fighting games don't need to be unviable or "bad" to be joke characters. I'm a firm believer that anyone can win with any character. It's a matter of skill and understanding mechanics, both of the characters and of the game as a whole.
SHINGO KICKU In lore, Shingo is a japanese student who watches KoF 96 and becomes a huge fan of Team Japan and Kyo specifically. He then finds out Kyo goes to the same school as him, so he constantly pesters him to be his teacher, as he wants to use fire like Kyo Maybe it was pity or just a chance to get food, but Kyo ends up accepting in exchange of getting a school meal everyday. He shows his moves to Shingo, who writtes them all down and then constantly practizes them Thing is, Kusanagi fire is in the blood, so Shingo does all of Kyo's move without the fire and in some cases, without the finess, both in lore and gameplay Though to make up for that, Shingo hits like a fucking truck. In 97 and 98 he even had Critical Hits that temporarily freezed the screen to sell the impact He falls mid triple kick (and causes damage if it's on top of the opponent), mid desperation move and even forgets his Hidden Super Desperation Moves and has to check his notes to finish it in 2002 UM He's also a massive goofball ruclips.net/video/tpoQ6swP9jQ/видео.html
That's just not true when it comes to some matchups, joke character or not. You can be the best Zangief player in Super Turbo, you still won't be able to do a damn thing against a halfway competent Akuma.
There's another aspect of his evolved joke, as well. He takes incredibly increased damage if you punish him at the end of the Legendary Taunt, to the point of a potential one hit kill.
specifically, he takes 200% while his back is turned, and 500% at the very end. The backturn pose also gives both players 1 bar of EX, and the wave of thumbs-up's at the end gradually gives 2 EX bars, for 3 whole EX bars in total for each player. So, he gets reimbursed for the taunt, and you get a free super to kill him. However, it's not like most characters even need to spend bar when their punish will do 500% damage. One medium Zangief grab will kill him at that point.
@@Ihavenolifeorvideos Either way you have to sit there and watch him taunt for 10 seconds to do that, so despite what the match results say, he's the real winner
i love the way they made dan in this game, i had thought about them doing something like what they had done in the end bc of how you used taunting to drain the opponents special meter in art of fighting but just being an inverse of giving both people meter instead and they did even cooler things with the idea
* I recommend reading this with ABI's voice and doing dramatic pauses in the second sentence* "This goes even further. If you let him do his Ultimate Taunt completely, his vitality drops so much that doing one single Critical Art KO's him. Yes, you can defeat Dan with ONE... SINGLE... MOVE... if you let him taunt you enough. And no, it's not a short taunt, it's almost half a minute of him taunting you over and over again. If you have the patience of a budhist monk, you will wait for him to do all of his useless mockery; if you do have common sense, you will beat the sense out of him. That's why Dan is mocking you in the first place, right? Brilliant Capcom, your online may still be bad, but when you want it, you can still pull fresh ideas out of seemingly nowhere." There, that's what the video lacked haha
Fun fact: Dan was based from Ryo with Robert Garcia's head. But Robert was based from Steven Seagal. And we all know that Seagal's a real life joke character.
Something I love about SF5 Dan is that his worst moves are the Shoto-clone ones. His hadouken sucks, his shoryuken sucks. But Dan Kicks? That's not a failed tatsumaki, that's a Saikyo style original, and it's Decent. Dan is at his best when he Stops aping Ryu and Ken, and starts using the style he's Meant to be a master at.
It's also worth noting that Dan's super taunt (Which is still in SFV and is even more elaborate than ever) plays into this as well; if the opponent waits for it to play out completely, the game immediately fills their super meter. If they hit Dan with a super *right* as the taunt is finishing, it does enough damage to instantly KO him. Which is about the most perfectly Dan thing I can think of.
Nice to see Dan decided to be the ultimate troll master in this game if he keeps this sub maybe he'll actually be somewhat decent or maybe he might be able to be just as good as Ryu but I don't think the world is ready for that much power
The ultimate "giving the enemy the tools" instance is his legendary taunt, it completely fills the enemy's bars and if you hit him with a super at the very end, he instantly dies lol
I was just talking to someone last week about characters built around a joke, like Murky in Heroes of the Storm and a joke characters like Dan. I'm glad Dan is now a character built around a joke instead of just a prank on anyone in a match involving him
@@tenkyu778 they stopped? I didn't know. It's probably the same thing with the fatal fury and king of fighters do when it comes to continuity. Oh well but yeah it's still weird. Lol Sakura wants that 30 to pound her.
I remember you discussing this in the Discord, frankly it's cool that Dan no longer has to be 'bad' to be a joke. Just make him look like an idiot and play to his strengths, taunting.
It really does seem like Dan is the epitome of telling a character’s story through gameplay. Not just how Dan is able to use taunts in his gameplay to shockingly effective use (when in the right hands), but how his whole gimmick literally is how he is his own worst enemy. And in a sense, Dan in a good sum of his appearances has proven that time and again. Best example I can think of is how his own “raging demon” attack from MvC2 can leave him on the edge of dying if he lands it. Yeah, it does good damage, but Dan is kind of going to blow over at any moment. That or the secret of Dan’s “special taunt” in SFV where if you hit him with your super move when he finishes the taunt, that’s an immediate KO against him.
It's always funny to me how Dan is a parody of a specific character from an SNK fighting game that's long since faded into obscurity, meaning a lot of his newer fans probably have no idea that he's even a parody -- a goofy joke character, certainly, but not a parody.
YYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! "The joke isnt gone, it just evolved." THANK YOU I've been trying to explain to my friends that Dan's changes were still in line with his Joke Character status but this video did it for me
Great video, and perfect explanation of what's happening. It takes the idea of making yourself completely vulnerable when taunting to a unique level. Very reminiscent of CvS2 where taunting (with any character) gives your opponent a huge amount of meter. And there was actually a strategy in doing this.
Old dan: A joke character in the literal sense; useless, mainly there for novelty New Dan: A joke character in the same vain as Piranha plant; still a novelty, but is actually really viable underneath that.
Galaxy Fight's Bonus Kun is the father of all joke characters though. He was a literal punching bag that looked and fought like Ryu. Dan was added to Street Fighter Alpha as a hidden character a bit later that year or early the next year. He's the one with the lasting legacy though, for obvious reasons.
Remember when King of Fighters had an entire team of joke characters? Then pulled a cool twist by the end, revealing that they were the main villains the whole time so you then had to fight their super powered forms as bosses.
One thing I like is how his Haoh Gadouken actually improved between SF4 and SFV where it used to blow him back from the sheer force of it to be being the least expensive V-Trigger and even having guard break properties meanwhile Ryu needs an entire V Guage and a Super Guage to get a guard break projectile. To me this shows that Dan is actually a threat, has some raw power that somewhat puts Mr. Streets himself to shame and can improve with just minimal effort but he's too busy being the idiot we all know and love to properly do things correctly
I remember Dan being the best in Pocket Fighter and Puzzle Fighter. His combo make only red, but most of the time, just do a big combo and it will instakill the opponent because he's also the strongest in term of gems. Risky yes, but rewarding. He also had an invincible move in Street Fighter Zero 3 in V-ism.
I like the idea that Dan's taunts giving his opponent v-skill is meant to be the idea that he's pissing off the opponent Like they're just done with his crap and want to super him into oblivion
I love the fact that I couldn't give a shit about street fighter and you still manage to keep me interested in the game through these videos, it's solid work
@AT Productions even then, there's a lot to go off of Lucia based off final fight 3 to do comparisons with how her character and gameplay transition into SFV. I know he doesn't play FF, but it shouldn't be hard to play or just look up walkthroughs for the sake of a video. Or even get Matt or someone else into FF to help. Though I understand, it's all still time regardless
I could be wrong but i think he already made a full video about dan throughout the series Edit: I was wrong, thinking of the Designing For: Parody video by a different channel
This video is about his game design less than his visuals. I suppose he made his point and left it at that. One thing I like about ABItorials is how he's willing to do that.
Dan evolved from a regular joke character... to a lethal joke character. For those that aren't TV Tropes afficionados like myself, a lethal joke character is a character that has all the makings of a joke character, but also has crazy tech that makes them not just viable, but _really friggin' amazing_ in the hands of those who learn that tech. Dan's still a joke, but the main joke about him (his abundance of taunts) was given tech behind it that makes him be able to do... well, all the crazy shit you saw in the video.
Another thing that exemplifies what you've been talking about in this video is one of Dan's supers: his ultimate taunt. If you wait for him to finish his taunt, and then you hit him with your own super, he'll *immediately* die.
Here is the thing. What happens if Dan actually became much more serious and travels around the world to improve his fighting style to become better. I imagine this. When Ryu's master Gouken doesn't accept Dan as his student after he saw his motivation for revenge. Instead of becoming quite of a joke. Dan plans to travel around the world and learn various different styles of combat and compete to illegal combat arenas to compete stronger opponents. Never the less he lose 5x times in a row and eventually he learn some acquired new skills to improve his abilities little by little while creating some ki techniques from Gouken and implement on his own. Eventually he won matches little by little and make a name of himself around the streets that even the original Dan can't do. Despite all of his improvements, it isn't enough to defeat Sagat in terms of skill. When he learned rumors about this so called S.I.N Tournament where the greatest fighters among the world compete for the title of who is the strongest. Dan agreed about this tournament and proceed to go there to fight stronger opponents while knowing that Sagat will be there as well. In the first match he fought against Ryu, which surprises Dan the most including Ryu himself. Unlike his Counterpart he became a lot stronger but not as a strong as Ryu but he can still match him 1 on 1. As the two fights, Ryu notice that Dan is quite strong and gives him a tougher fight. When Ryu was about to perform a Hadoken attack, Dan Suddenly performs his better version of Gadoken. This Gadoken is quite different from the Original one. Despite being short range, The Gadoken acts more of a shotgun in close range, which means it packs a lot of punch similar to a standard Hadoken but in close range. This shocks Ryu as he was hit by the Gadoken attack, sending him flying in the air while Dan follows up towards Ryu. When Ryu maintain his composure he soon fight off Dan and won in the end with little struggle. Because of this loss especially from Gouken's Student. Dan still need to improve himself while fight opponents stronger than him. While maintaining his joke character like persona. He still befriends both Sakura and Blanka. But unlike the Original Sakura takes Dan seriously as he was a good sparring partner while Sakura was interested at his Ki techniques. While Blanka, Dan have a positive and funny friendship towards both of them.
To answer your question, I think characters can get stronger, as long as it doesn't break away from their character. I couls believe that Dan's techniques are "slightly" better, but if he ever decided to go back to training under Gouken/Ryu and Ken and use THEIR techniques (Hadoken, Shoruken) as well as stop using taunts in his moveset, I'd believe you if Dan was treated less as a joke, but in a way that takes away his charm. In other words, I kinda agree with you
I dont think its a name that will pull numbers but I'd love to see you folks do a breakdown of Gene from Godhand. He's go so much cocky swagger and ridiculous moves I think there's some material there
I remember reading that Dan was originally a joke at the expense of KoF. He has mechanics and animations specifically reminiscent of stuff from KoF and his fireballs are weak because in KoF your fireball strength was based on a resource meter that doesn't exist in SF.
It was actually a jab at Art of Fighting, the SNK game Ryo is originally from. It’s Ryo’s body and moves with Robert Garcia’s head. In Art of Fighting, there’s a spirit meter that determines if you can throw projectiles. If spirit is too low, they fizzle out quickly. The joke is that Dan’s projectiles always fizzle out since there’s no spirit meter in SF.
Dan in SF4 was actually pretty good, even above average for most of its life span. His moves copying Ryu and Ken sucked ass, sure, but the moves that were exclusive to him and his Seikyo were unironically some of the best moves in the game and singehandledly made all of his gimmicks work. And I only recently found out this has lore relevance. Seikyo, according to SF cannon, is actually one of the deadliest arts in that universe. Dan is obsessed with making his father proud because his father was a legitimate legend. If Dan exclusively honed in on Seikyo, he could have become the best fighter in the franchise cannon wise. However, Dan is held back by his clout chasing and trying to market Seikyo using moves he was impressed by from the Satsui No Hadou. Which is why all of his moves based on Ryu's kit suck; they betray Dan's Seikyo. Meanwhile, all of his Seikyo style moves are unironically good because he did not botch them by trying to make them more like something else. Dan is literally only bad because of greed and jealousy. And that is fucking hilarious.
I honestly hope more games in the future introduce these kinds of joke characters in their roster, because to me they add a layer of psychological warfare to games like no other archetype. Oh, sure, I am challenging you in finals with the joke of the roster. But if you underestimate me for ONE SECOND and I manage to land my infinite... you know what people will be saying once out of the building, right?
The ending animation of his legendary taunt makes the opponent do twice of as much damage. He can get one shot if they super him right when he does it.
Dan didn't just rip off one move from Ryo Sakazaki. Everything in his arsenal is meant to be a parody of the Art of Fighting main characters: the crummy fireball, the DP that faces towards the camera instead of presenting the back like the Shoto boys, the kick, and even his super fireball. Hell, his ponytail is ripped straight off of Ryo's co-lead and dojo buddy, Robert Garcia.
Nothing like throwing a Dan taunting super in Marvel SH Vs Street Fighter and seeing the other fighter respond by doing the most ridiculous moves they could think of while avoiding damaging Dan. It was a pressure release and a moment of amicable acknowledgment that we were both there to have fun.
I always wanted Dan to reach in full potential in a way where he still keeps his character and still act in his joking. In my opinion, Dan deserves way more. He father dies in front of his eyes and he couldn’t do anything to stop it, He literally everybody (except for Sakura and Jimmy) garbage can and He the joke of the show. He go around the world to fight battles against strong people even though he keeps losing. Everything I just said make Dan my favorite character in SF and in my opinion, kinda the most interesting shoto. I was so happy that he was good in SFV but then you realize you just playing with him so you have a Higher chance to lose. I’ll still main Dan no matter what and I love him as a Joke Character still But there a small part of me that want Dan character to go somewhere other than Copying Blanka Story and making fool of himself more. Hell even Sakura said “We all gotta grown up someday, How about you Dan?”
Writers of Capcom are really scared of evolving characters any further or taking timeline further. Mr. Hibiki is one of those characters who actually has potential to evolve as he has true, concrete goals he can achieve and already has achieved one of them: defeat Sagat. No other character can boast about having set a goal and achieving it as well.
@@vksasdgaming9472 Exactly. Nearly every character is almost the same as day one and those who aren’t are almost whole different characters in a way. Capcom needs to step up their game
@@onehitwonders7729 Of course there is difference between gameplay and how character is animated/written. Vega got revamped gameplay and became so much better as there was no longer so severe contrast between character and how it is played. Nash also got revamped (my memory) in gameplay and character as well, which I like. Dan got tweaked and generally improved and as such has remained as he is. Nothing wrong with that when character is genuinely solid and funny, but development is needed. Capcom should give every character a moment to shine, but that is a case of writing. I know stories in fighting games stink, but that does not mean it has to be ignored. Simplistic story with lots of characters fighting can be fun and exciting.
The thing is though....Dan's always been a good character to use. I mean at higher level play, the dude hits like a dump truck in Alpha 2. And SFV ain't even the first time Capcom gave him a scary strong infinite, either! Now he's definitely gonna struggle in games like Marvel Super Heroes, cause he still got that tiny and pathetic fireball and sluggish normals against massive destruction beams from Cyclops, or ultra hyper enemies like Spiderman and Wolverine. He's an ACTUAL joke in the Marvel crossovers cause he's not optimized to thrive in those kinds of settings. This video is an interesting take on him though, cause I had noticed that of all of Dan's techniques, aside from the really crappy and unpolished normals, the taunts are the only tech that are uniquely his. He has the old(and new) tech he obviously stole from SNK, but he even got a crush counter kick he learned from Sakura that actually serves as a pretty good anti-air. Even his story shows that the overarching narrative is him seeing that his friend Blanka did something neat, and Dan going way too far in ripping him off. Dan Hibiki and Seth are practically the same character, but for all the wrong reasons, lol.
Also if you use his Legendary Taunt CA and wait for him to finish almost the whole animation and then attack him during the last pose he takes a bunch of extra damage. Hitting him with a CA at that point is usually enough to instantly KO him even.
He's learned the art of fighting and now he's the king of fighters

Dan is a perfect example of a joke character done right. His taunts give the opposite what they need to take him down. and nowhere is that more apparent, than with his LEGENDARY TAUNT.🤣
But if used correctly, Dan will get the last laugh.
Get ready World, with my Saikyo Arts, Ima teach u how to be awesome at a Fuckin Infinite!

Just like a lot of fighting game players with an ego
@@MagillanicaLouM how how on earth do you defeat god itself?
Dan's V-Skill taunts giving the opponent V-Meter is also a form of taunt in of itself. Just by playing Dan, you are saying to the opponent, "Here, have some meter! I bet you still can't beat me!" It's salt, reified as a gameplay mechanic.
Why use the v skill if it only helps your opponent?
@@jamesjoe4654 because it helps you way more. The taunt let's you cancel basically any move in his kit leading to a bunch of crazy shit most characters can't do
@@penguinmaster16 so it allows you to extend combos or?
@@jamesjoe4654 yup exactly. because of it dan had an infinite that was relatively practical in use that was eventually patched out
Personally, I always saw Dan as less "lousy" and more "lousy compared to the rest of the cast".
Not to mention how this evolves the idea that he's terrible when imitating the shotos, but is surprisingly powerful when doing his own thing
You know Dan has gotten better if he's packing a decent Haou Shoukoken now.
That one is turned into 1 gauge V-trigger now. Maybe the only one who has it on the cast of SFV
@@Teto98 Maybe? My knowledge of KOF is very limited.
SHINGO KICKU
In lore, Shingo is a japanese student who watches KoF 96 and becomes a huge fan of Team Japan and Kyo specifically. He then finds out Kyo goes to the same school as him, so he constantly pesters him to be his teacher, as he wants to use fire like Kyo
Maybe it was pity or just a chance to get food, but Kyo ends up accepting in exchange of getting a school meal everyday. He shows his moves to Shingo, who writtes them all down and then constantly practizes them
Thing is, Kusanagi fire is in the blood, so Shingo does all of Kyo's move without the fire and in some cases, without the finess, both in lore and gameplay
Though to make up for that, Shingo hits like a fucking truck. In 97 and 98 he even had Critical Hits that temporarily freezed the screen to sell the impact

There, that's what the video lacked haha
1:45 Considering Dan is a mash-up parody of Ryo/Robert/Takuma/Yuri to begin with, it's not surprising he finally got a move like this.
The ultimate "giving the enemy the tools" instance is his legendary taunt, it completely fills the enemy's bars and if you hit him with a super at the very end, he instantly dies lol

"The joke isnt gone, it just evolved." THANK YOU I've been trying to explain to my friends that Dan's changes were still in line with his Joke Character status but this video did it for me
I think Dan Hibiki is an alias for Kintaro Oe from Golden Boy and his final act was to study martial arts since that's where all the babes are...
Great video, and perfect explanation of what's happening. It takes the idea of making yourself completely vulnerable when taunting to a unique level. Very reminiscent of CvS2 where taunting (with any character) gives your opponent a huge amount of meter. And there was actually a strategy in doing this.
Old dan: A joke character in the literal sense; useless, mainly there for novelty
New Dan: A joke character in the same vain as Piranha plant; still a novelty, but is actually really viable underneath that.
Great analysis, that's why I believe that Dan should keep all of these good stuff they gave him, it still is in character with him
The best part is that this both continues the joke of his incompetence while allowing him to be viable.
I like the idea that Dan's taunts giving his opponent v-skill is meant to be the idea that he's pissing off the opponent
Like they're just done with his crap and want to super him into oblivion
I love the fact that I couldn't give a shit about street fighter and you still manage to keep me interested in the game through these videos, it's solid work

Dan’s gameplay style is the epitome of the classic “Taunt to get bodied” combo.
breaking expectations is also a famous way to deliver a joke ... so Dan being top tier is a joke on itself
The fact Dan is the only character who has an infinite in SFV is the most hilarious meta commentary on the sate of SFV as a whole
That's very interesting I love this interpretation!
Dan, showing us a small percentage of his true power.
His main mechanic is literally 'Taunt to get bodied'
The fact that he does squats if you t-bag fast enough is just the best.
Dan actually trained this time
To answer your question, I think characters can get stronger, as long as it doesn't break away from their character. In other words, I kinda agree with you
He did improve. No longer falling oger throwing out haoh gadoken and he throws gadokens one handed with such ease.
I dont think its a name that will pull numbers but I'd love to see you folks do a breakdown of Gene from Godhand. He's go so much cocky swagger and ridiculous moves I think there's some material there
A joke character with the potential to be Lethal (when a pro uses it) makes for a very fun challenge!
@@BinaryHedgehog1 Thanks for the clarification.
Dan would be so strong if he didn't have the hubris to throw fireballs with one hand. He's also ripped as fuck
Excellently insightful and succinct analysis, great video as always A.B.I.
For the Shortest time Dan had combos and links that made Ryu Jealous. SO THE MAIN FACE OF STREET FIGHTER WAS WORSE THAN A JOKE.
This is what peak Danformance looks like.
Dan is setting up a punch line, where his hubris beats him.
The ending animation of his legendary taunt makes the opponent do twice of as much damage. He can get one shot if they super him right when he does it.
Dan: If I'm going to be a joke, I'm going to be the most KICKASS JOKE IN EXISTANCE
The LEGEND HAVE RETURN more glorious than EVER.
Dan the man Is back in his van and hopefully he wont get banned
Dan; the joke character than became a god and Ryo the top tier character that became a joke
Just a small note, but uh, the taunts fill both V gauges. That’s doesn’t change the point to much but it’s important to note.
In SF6, Dan will be the next Ryu ~ 🤣🤣🤣
Nothing hurts more than losing to a dan.
I love this analysis. Incredible observation! I love Dan even more now!
Also if you use his Legendary Taunt CA and wait for him to finish almost the whole animation and then attack him during the last pose he takes a bunch of extra damage. Hitting him with a CA at that point is usually enough to instantly KO him even.
