Urdu and Hindi originated from the same mother tongue, But later, Hindi acquired more Sanskrit words and Urdu acquired more Arabic and Persian words. Now Urdu is the language of Muslims who can speak it with correct pronunciation and which the Hindu majority majority mispronounces. Because Urdu is more popular among the masses, Hindu fanatics, like Arvind Saharan, lay claim on it it even though they can hardly pronounce it or even understand the meaning of the words. This is how BJP agents are changing Indian history.

I requested some Pak RUclipsrs to make a programme on this particular topic.I am a non-Hindi person.Hindi is the main language of North India.During the post independent era the muslim nawabs didn't like to identify themselves with the common Indian people. So they substituted some of the lexical words of Hindi with Arabic and Persian words and claimed it URDU otherwise Urdu is not an independent language. The grammar is purely of the Hindi.Simply they have adopted either the Arabic or the Persian script.

Mr. Arvind Another fact is that since many Urdu words come from Farsi, Old Persian being the ancestor and this language was very close to Sanskrit, also termed as a sister language. Many words like Saptaah (7 days), identical to Hafta (Farsi/Urdu), Sa changes to Ha , Pa changes to Fa, similarly Swapn (dream) , S changed to Kha/Ha, Pa changed to Ba (Arabic influence on Farsi), so Swapna becomes Khwaab. Roots are same. These words came back to India with Urdu. Many modern Persian words still retain Old Persian words that are similar to Sanskrit. It can be assumed that both languages had a common ancestor, some tribes changed sounds of word during course of time. And then they came back to India with Muslim empires approximately 3000 years later. Interesting story.

Hindi is the Indian spoken language those written in Devnagari (Sanskrit) and Urdu has been written in Persian language. But language has been influenced by regional word to keep different.

New research has found that people from INDIA have settled in distant lands... the Aryan invasion theory was promoted by the British to make Indians feel inferior about their own civilization... Therefore it is very much possible that many of the Persian , Arabic , Turkish words could have been adopted from Hindustani language and not vice-versa...

What is this HINDI and URDU nostalgia is all about? It is so simple as the GRAMMER for both these languages is the same. Then is the common vocabulary. P.S. time-related words which are very much in use in many Indian languages (क्षण, घटिका, पळ, प्रहर). I have done detailed research to find out the exact reasons why SANSKRIT is finished.

I was always wondering about this as I know 8 languages and have stayed at multiple places in India and extensively travelled abroad. I have never learnt any language except for English and Marathi, all others have come by interface with people. And interface with people lower down the social hierarchy makes you get the language (as you had discussed). It also indicates your willingness to mix with people. The examples Shakilbhai gave about Visa is true. It is a Bihari pronunciation, also Bengal. In Bengal Kheshtrapal is pronounced as Khetropal. Kshubd is Khubdo. The Ksha is not there in Bengal. My mother a Tamil used to say Kopa for Gopa. EOD language is a medium of communication in daily life. It assumes importance only in academics. Many a times, language even becomes irrelevant. I have travelled to countries that don't speak English, I didn't know the local language, but had had no problems. Humans do respond well even without a language. Interesting video.

Great subject. The problem is how to teach English Language in the Indian subcontinent. Sending children in English medium school is not enough. In fact, it is damaging for the children. A teacher teaches in broken language and the students simply sit like robots. If the subject is science, the entire students in the class are at loss. Teachers themselves do not know how to read and write. Unless the students aren't grounded in the basics in English language, how could they read great books? For example, three books on India by V.:S. Naipaul? Or, two books on Islam by the same writer. Without those five books, a man from the Indian subcontinent is literally blind. How about Conrad? These writers demand great attention and the reward is immense. English ought to be studied because it has the finest work in literature and art and economics. Locke? Smith? Hobbes? Mill? Once a student possess a mastery in any language, the need for a badly educated teacher is over. Follow Mark Twain who distinguishes between schooling and education.

The whole point of this interview was to instill a sense of inferiority (or ahsaas-e-kamtari in urdu) among the peoples of Bharatvarsha or hindus in specific. This was a very wily sleight of hand where turkic/farsi/arabic loanwords into the erstwhile Hindustani language lionized whereas the Sanskrit loanwords written off as obscure and out of date. For example, words like Sanam, Aadmi, Beiman, Imaandar which specifically have theological connotations have been imposed on an unassuming people as cool and hip, let me break it down what these actually mean the words Sanam come from the same root word in Arabic which means idol or Buth, makes you wonder what they meant when they said "Sanam Bewafa", Aadami is derived from Aadam or the first human being according to Biblical stories whereas hindus believe that Manu is the first human hence we use Manushya, Manush in Bengali, Beiman usually refers to a cheat, fraud or conman but it is very simple when you break it down into two parts "Be" "iman" means one who is devoid of any Iman or faith (im assuming possibly in Allah? Since Iman is a Arabic word and is often used in contexts like "Allah mein Iman lana har momin ki zimmedari he", Imaandar again although used in common parlance as to refer to a person who is honest actually means "Iman" "daar" or one who is pious, notice the constant conflation of normative Islamic norms with universal norms for mankind. Another point which this video completely misses that is it might it might be true that Hindustani and urdu are so similar that they are mutually intelligible but the more words of farsi are introduced though the further it alienates the speakers of other Indian languages which may find many similarities with hindi had it maintained a Sanskrit base common to all. Coming to the last point, the reason people grimace when hearing people say mashtisk, vyatvaran, pustak, sandhya, raat, nishkarsh is constant signaling by bollywood forcing an alien tongue on the people of Bharat. If not who writes a song like this "Khariyat pucho, kaifiyat pucho.. hasiyat pucho" I bet 98% of Indians wouldn't know what these words mean, even I didn't before I started watching Pakistani TV. Notice one thing the only Sanskrit word Pakistanis use are (and I'm gonna write like they say it) Saatyanesh and Ashirvad. One means everything has gone to hell and Ashirvaad means blessings. We even know in which context they use these words. I think it is high time we decolonise our vocabularies and go back to our roots rather than looking outside.

It has everything to do with the politics of the region. If you want to be technical, then Urdu gets its vocabulary from Persian and not from Arabic. Urdu only has Arabic words indirectly from Persian which had absorbed Arabic words directly. Those words you mentioned as saying they are used a lot in Islamic contexts, that is true, although this is the case with every language, including English. Especially English.
Persian was used as a lingua franca because Sanskrit was not able to fulfil that role. This is why never in Indian history was there one single language that a very large portion or even a majority of people spoke. The only reason that Hindi was able to fill that role is BECAUSE of Persian.

Urdu and Hindi are the same language, better to call it Hindustani. This is spoke by the common folk in India and therefore the language of Bollywood is understood across the subcontinent. The issue is that hyper nationalism wants to divide syncretic cultures and look for a purity to drive their nationalism. This is is fool's errand. Urdu was born in Deccan which is the belly of today's India and Sanskrit was nurtured in the schools of Gandhar and Takshila which are now in Pakistan. It was Jinnah's stupidity to try to appropriate Urdu as the National Language of Pakistan and it is the hyper hindu nationalists stupidity to buy into that logic and look for a pure Hindi. The stuff does not exist! At least not in the common folk's understanding....

Urdu is a persianized language. The
colloquial sounds same but actual languages are not. For ex, watch pakistani news channels (or indian urdu channels) and I bet most of Indian will not understand even 5% of it.
Bollywood uses urdu, not hindi in its songs, dialogues.
The point is over usage of these urdu (persian and Arabic words) will completely destroy hindi, our own language. In fact, we have lost it to an extent bcoz of these.
It's critical to protect hindi. Else we will lose it. Stop using arabic or persian words in hindi if we have equivalents in hindi.

I have urdu dictionary and my study indicates 70% words derived from sanskrit, 20% from Avadhi, Brij bhasha and balance 10% from village languages of UP.
Let me also indicate names pakistan, afganistan, Tajikistan etc have word sanskrit word Sthan which means place. Ie Rajsthan which mean sthan of rajas or kings
Enablility of people of NW to pronounce Sthan resulted in words becoming Stan in place of sthan. Another instance most punjabi call school as sakool.
