NeoTrekk Pill Bottle Stove: amzn.to/3vJLNQr
Stanley Two Cup Cookset: amzn.to/3S4etv0

Love the video! I'm the maker of the PillBottle Stove. You did a great job just using the PillBottle Stones Stove and showing how simple it is. One little change is to put the pot on top of the 2 stone stack and then light it... that way no BTUs get wasted between lighting and setting the pot on top. I have about 200 MREs stashed away and look forward to making some of my own now.
Glad you liked the video. Thanks for the tip. That’s a great point! Love that little stove and will be using it again in the future.
Over $40 for 4 though?!
Says Rechargeable on Amazon? Site suggest buying alcohol fuel in combination. @thanku7x77
@@thanku7x77This is definitely not budget. I think I will stick to freeze dried food from Walmart.
You're turning building your own MRE into a thing. Very smart! Also good clean fun for us older guys who need a hobby. LOL!
I didn’t create it but I like to think I’m taking it in a different direction from most. It’s about of fun and would be an absolutely great hobby! And you get to eat the results!
Exactly, Point well taken! I also like the fact that it makes it easier for someone like me who doesn’t like shopping to watch his Videos and purchase what he already bought and tried.
Pretty new here. Love the path you're on. Simple, straightforward content that informs AND entertains. How about trying different ethinc stores? Get someone to help with any language barrier. I would love to see some with crazy stuff from no where around here. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the support and great suggestions. I was thinking of trying a supermercado some time to see what I find.
I was glad to see Walmart sells Tasty Bite products as I really liked the meal you showed. These are such fun and informative video's ❤
Thank you! It’s all about making people think outside the normal protein bars and tuna packs you usually see in these videos.
Love how you get straight to the point, no messing around. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you. I’m glad you’re here!
Great video as always! It never crossed my mind to build my own MREs until I started watching your videos. Have looked at the premade ones and always scoff at the price! lol! Keep up the great content!
Thank you so much for that comment. It’s wonderful to know I’ve given someone some knowledge and inspiration!
Could you try Aldi or a gas station? Possibly a fun challenge of budget limit or a parameter change. Could you make a weekend power out kit in light of this wonderful weather? Ran into a situation here with power loss and a family of four. Was prepared so no worries, remember to keep a good amount of water.
I did Aldi a couple years ago but will likely revisit as it had a different format from these new videos. I’ve had several people ask for a gas station video so I may have to make that happen soon. I do like the idea of a weekender kit. That may happen soon too. Thanks for the great suggestion.
Glad I found your channel. Easy to do things that I really like.
Thanks! I’m glad you’re here!
Thank you great Video. And I love the snow
Thank you. We enjoyed it too but it overstayed its welcome a bit.
Nice work with the label. I guess we will be seeing your brand in Military Surplus stores soon.
What are those little pucks you used to heat the water?
Also, do you tend to use one particular size of bag to make these? I've been vacuum sealing mine, but they aren't as rugged as the bag type you use.
Thanks! Probably not going to market anytime soon but we will see 😀.
The cook system is from NeoTrekk (link in description) and the stones are soaked in denatured alcohol. I don’t really show it in the video but I vacuum seal a clear bag and drop it in these Mylar bags for protection from light. I’m not sure what size they are but I really only use the one since it fits the inner package so well.
Best DIY MRE yet, a lot of really great ideas!
Thank you 🙏. I truly appreciate the support!
Oh I love this idea and the packaging. Awesome! Thanks Mr. L.
Thank you, bud. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good morning from Barren County, KY,
Another great video, I really enjoyed it. 👍👍
Heard the birds in the background.
I woke up this morning and there were 2 big black birds stuck together in my front yard. They were "Velcrows". 😄😄
Have a great day. Stay warm.
JT
😂 velcrows. Thanks for the laugh and for the support!
Im a teacher and i sometimes live out of my car sometimes and your vuds help me make good food choices for non refrigerator item. Thank you Kind Sir for what you do!!
You’re so welcome. Thank you for your kind words and support!
Great MRE suggestions! As an effort to cut more costs I’d buy the food/snack supplies in bulk at Costco. I appreciate your great MRE content!
There’s definitely a better plan for cost. Individual items are not the way to go for bulk
We have a Sprouts within walking distance of our suburban house, and it's pretty decent. Yeah, there are some expensive items there, but also some bargains. Sure cheaper than a Whole Foods!
There are some great things there but I have to shop there in moderation
Another great video. I've had that Tasty Bites meal, it's pretty good for a vegetarian entree. I hope you keep going with the Homemade MRE thing. I have no idea why I like it so much, but here we are. I'll be looking back to see the "stove" thing.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. More coming!
Just "discovered" your channel. I really enjoy the content and I'm gonna go binge your other videos!
Thank you! I’m so glad you’re here. Hope you enjoy the other content.
Just stumbled across your channel, this was interesting. Our family has a lot of food allergies - gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, and we avoid rice as well, which is a daily challenge since most gluten free products use rice or soy as a replacement for wheat. I cook from scratch with fresh ingredients every day but we still like the occasional convenience food. I frequent the Sprouts in my area so I'll have to challenge myself to create a mre that meets our needs. I already saw your walmart mre video (i found that one 1st) and it would be a similar challenge in that they have less "organic" type items but they also have more products on the shelf as well. Many thanks to you! Glad the algorithm hit me just right. ❤
Thank you, I’m so glad you found the channel and enjoyed the videos. Have fun hunting for items for your own meals. Keep checking in to let me know if you find cool stuff.
Nice fire rocks I been buying all the nice gadgets you use it's pretty ausome keep up the great job 👍
These were fascinating. Not a perfect system but for compactness they are a winner.
Full on Bu-G! Loved this one!
BU-G 2 is coming soon!
The bowl is my favorite item. That is a bowl of complete protein for someone who is unable to have meat or meat products..
It was pretty good too. Nice vegetarian option.
I enjoy your videos. Y’all got more snow than we did in Northeast Mississippi. (Tupelo)
Thank you! Yeah, it’s normally the opposite here at the West end of the state. We don’t usually get much or any while everyone else is getting hammered.
Very good video. You found sources at very different kind of store. I like how you used the Stanley two cup cooker.
Have you considered putting the heat source in the bag? Also I have started migrating towards 3 meals in a bag.
Thank you. I have t started adding heat sources into the bags because I’m trying out different things to see what works best. This thing caught on and started growing so y’all are learning with me! I will do a 24 hour MRE soon.
I've watched a couple of your videos now and I'm quite impressed, makes me want to think about building my own! OK, now for the silliness: I swear you are related to the guy that does @readinessreviews or are his doppleganger. Voice and speaking patterns are similar, gestures are similar 😁
Glad you found the channel. I’ll need to go look for my alternate self and check that out 😂
I like you explore more cooking and heating sources and methods.
I plan to do just that.
i am lining up a couple different places to try this
Very cool! I hope this becomes a trend.
Sounds like fun. I always wonder about the sodium count since MRE's are loaded with it and I have to watch mine.
That is definitely a factor with a lot of processed and packaged foods. That might be a chore to find parts that fit that particular parameter. I will keep an eye out as I shop and maybe try to build some MREs to include lower sodium or sugar content.
Ive stocked up on Tasty Bites meals. It started with Bombay Potatoes.
That’s my favorite of their stuff. Always a good choice
Go on a hike or do outdoors activities to see the effect of the mre at end of day: hungry, satisfied, drained, energy level etc.
That’s a great idea. Need to try that.
Lol, I'm too cheap to shop at Sprouts for MRE stuff. How about trying an Aldi store? ❤ your videos!
It was an extravagance for sure. I am working on Aldi now but it may take time to build it. Their stock doesn’t lend well to these so I have to grab things where I can.
I've been to the one in Lubbock and you're definitely not wrong about the prices but I managed to grab some of the sale items so not to bad.
They have good stuff and their fresh meats and deli stuff is really good but I couldn’t shop there often.
@@dadbudgetadventures agreed 👍
What were those tabs you were using to heat the water and why did you not have a metal stand for your water? Does the pad things you put down not get smaller when you light them on fire?
That is a stove system based on the stones. They absorb denatured alcohol and you just set your pot on top. It’s a little unstable but it was fun to play with. There’s a link in the description box if you want to look more into it.
What about trader Joe? I know they have a lot of good snacks and it's a little expensive. I always wanted to check them out.
I did one a couple years back when it was a very different format. I’m looking at revisiting it soon.
I think I missed the cost. Is this your most expensive so far?
I have two ideas for you. First, build one to a price point. Ex: Make one for $10, no limit on where components come from.
Two, make your favorite with no limit on where you get components. Keep your same rules in both cases.
For a single meal, yes, this is the most expensive. I believe it ended up at $12 and change. I love those ideas. I’ve been planning for my ultimate MRE but I love the budget limit idea too. Stick around I’m gonna make that happen.
Review at end with total cost, calories, vitamin content etc.
I have included the cost in the video. I have started including some nutritional information but I’m going to limit that for the sake of time
How many calories? And how about trying to assemble one from 7-11
I do t have the answer for that in front of me. Unfortunately I do. It have 7-11 near me but I am looking at doing some kind of gas station/truck stop MRE soon.
Have you made an mre for folks that are diabetic?
I have had some requests for that but I’ve always said that with the specific needs of diabetics I am not the one to build a meal for them. I don’t know enough about it to pursue it without the risk of getting it very wrong. If someone wanted to provide me a list of specific items I’d be willing to put it together and demonstrate it but I’m not knowledgeable enough to take on that responsibility.
The heat source is an overpriced set of (tiny) vermiculite fire brick pieces soaked in alcohol. You should make some "on a budget", add a better windbreak and do a video on it.
Now that I know what they’re made of I might just do that. Thanks for the information!
I'd bet you could sell those to yuppies for $20 a piece or more. ✌️🇺🇸
You’re probably right 😂
What was the cost?
$12 and change. It’s shown in the video.
Build an mre from bucees or convenience store/gas station
I’ve gotten that from lots of viewers. Thinking I might have to make it happen. Or die trying at least.
I like the bowl.
Can you do a gluten free MRE? I have several friends with wheat allergies and want to get them a in the car MRE
I have avoided doing MREs for specific dietary restrictions because I don’t know enough about them and would likely get it wrong.
No info on heat source
Check the description box. There’s a link to it.
Anything for vegetarians
The entree was vegetarian. You could certainly substitute other items for the meat options.
Good morning early bird
Good morning to you as well. I’m glad you’re here!
How much was it though😢😂
It was only $12.28 once I broke some items down into single serving cost.
You look like Wolfman jack what are you using to heat your water the tablets
I’ve gotten that a time or two wolf 🐺. The stove setup is from NeoTrekk (link in description box) if you’d like to look deeper into it.
Thanks
I stumbled onto your channel and finding them interesting and helpful
@@trapper-kl5tl awesome! Glad to have you!
A dollar general store MRE..
I did that a couple years ago but the format was different when it was more of a random occasional thing. Might have to revisit that.
WOWOWOW... I haven't seen snow in YEARS.... what state do you live in?
Tennessee. We don’t get a lot normally so this was a big deal.
