Not on the same page as making a MRE but I used to come up with food items in department stores when shopping with my late wife. Even in the women’s section of Kohl’s or Dillards I’d see food items I’d imagine as "survival food" in the event you were trapped in the store after hours. Crazy right? Fiji water was everywhere so beverage covered. There were multiple bougie chocolate bars or bites available so désert was covered. Expensive nuts or nut mixes were often there as well. Walk around snack done. I don’t seem to recall much of anything that could be considered an entree or side dish. There would be seasoning mixes and other dry stuffs in the housewares section and usually a microwave or toaster oven on display that could be plugged in to heat things up, if needed. Strange how my mind passed the time while accompanying her on a shopping trip. If you’re ever in the same situation keep your well trained eyes open for these things. You never know when you might be forced to survive in a department store !😂

I have an emergency ration. There are Goobers which is mixed peanut butter and grape (or strawberry) jelly. The Walmart version is called Stripes, costs about $1 less, grape jelly only and comes in a plastic (Goobers is glass) jar so it won't beak on you. It weighs 16 ounces, has 2,100 calories and 50 grams of protean. Sorta like the WWIII D ration, can be eaten with a spoon, does not really need a drink to consume it. Not a satisfying meal but provides a day's calories in a very small package. Keep these for emergencies like getting really stranded in my truck.

I know you have already done a Big Lots MRE for the channel - or maybe even a couple - but just FYI in case you might just want to try them (if they are still stocked) Big Lots used to sell - and maybe still do - Indian dishes that came in a cardboard box/sleeve with a retort pouch inside like your soup came in. They are vegetarian so I prefer to add meat but they are very good - I think they are better than any, similar things I have gotten elsewhere. I need to get by there and see if they still have them.

Have you considered a series where you make MRE’s that don’t have the same rules you use for these videos? Maybe give yourself the freedom to use a camping cook set. See what kind of meals you can make using only shelf stable ingredients. For example, making chicken tacos with canned chicken or something like that.

I Love watching your videos. They are very informative and entertaining. Maybe you could make one that is not with hot spicy food though I can't eat any of that. I would love to see one that's just kind of plain. Maybe plain rice and peanut butter something like that I guess. Maybe I missed those. Maybe you've already posted those before.

🤣🤣 You had me laughing out loud. Thanks.
I'm not much into shopping, but I can see getting drawn in at a place with neat, novel stuff. Usually my weakness is a grocery store with different foods over my usual grocery store. I can make that credit card groan.
Maybe this will throw a few pennies your way. I'm playing this video on my smart tv via hubs account, and on my laptop thought my account. Letting ads play.
Loving your bougie MRE. I LOVE spicy chocolate. Peppers and chocolate pair so well. Fun thing to look for.. Do you remember pop rocks? I tried a couple of brands with that it in. One of them incorporating both the popping candy and a spicy pepper in a base of dark chocolate. So good. I need to try that hatch bar. Once a year I order fresh frozen hatch chilis peppers. That'll be coming up in July. Mmmm
Definitely will be checking out the other vid

I saw two ads! This was a fun one! I’m wondering if the rice would soften a bit if you put your sauce over it and then let it sit a few minutes while you ate your soup first?

    • @dadbudgetadventures
