IMHO, I like the look of the dress more without the belt if you're wearing it with casual sandals/flip flops. Hat goes so well with the look of the outfit. You nailed it!!!! 👍🏼

I am going to Hawaii and I will need a packable sun hat, so I made basically a muslin. I will be making the real thing soon, using some lovely white eyelet. I love your channel. I have used regular cotton string to make piping. A lot of your sewing tales include the phrase “so I took it apart” 😂which is why you end up with so many beautiful garments. I really love this dress. So tempting as we have that fabric in the shop. Charlie just walked in the room and said oh wow that is a pretty dress.
Actually before I headed back to HL and got the big spool of cording, I got into my bias tape stash and found some old piping I knew I'd never use. I pulled the string out of that - worked great but I didn't really have enough. So it was fortuitous that I happened on the big spool when I did. Yesterday when I was over there I checked out the reels of ribbon and trims and saw that they actually do have a smaller size cord than the one I initially used. When I got the bigger reel, I hadn't checked the clearance section - would've probably found the big spool if I had, and also I'd asked what they had and the lady helping me went over, got the small reel of fat cord and just handed it to me. So I didn't check what she'd given me with what was there. Lesson learned!

This is soooooooooo adorable Jen! We do think a lot alike when it comes to animal prints. I LOVE the beach and Flamingos so of course, I have lots of fabric with those themes. Love the color of your dress and all of the piping and fitting work you put into it 💖 As for the belt, I do agree with your family that the shape of the dress really shines without the belt. That's what I love about sewing - it's all about personal preference, isn't it? I wanted those seam lines to really pop. I did think it would've worked to just use the edge of the bias tape without the cord so it would look like piping but really just be a decorative bias edge. That probably would've saved me the trouble of making piping!
