There are eight capital cities in Australia, each of which functions as the seat of government for the state or territory in which it is located. One of these, Canberra, is also the national capital. Section 125 of the Constitution of Australia specified that the seat of the national government, that is, the national capital, would be in its own territory within New South Wales, at least 100 miles from Sydney. The Constitution also specified that until this national capital was ready, the Parliament would sit in Melbourne. In 1927, the national capital was finally ready and the national government relocated from its former seat in Melbourne to Canberra within the Australian Capital Territory (or the Federal Capital Territory as it was known at the time).

I had never heard of a pronunciation of Maldives as "mal..dye..s" . In fact, there are 2 pronunciations , in which, the differences are in the "Mal" . And i hardly hear the "v" sound at the end. The V sound is important.

其實留意到韓國人嘅讀音唔係讀Soul, ,佢哋嘅S有少少門牙音㗎，而韓國人都讀Korea(O音㗎）😊幾有趣㗎
Worcestershire is pronounced almost like Wors-ter. The English swallow some of the sounds just like Leicester. They call it Les-ter. I hope you didn't mind me saying so.

@@TiffanyTeachesEnglish typically, Greenwich and Warwick are spoken without the w. So it is green-ich, (but it should sound almost like gran-ich) and war-rick. It is crazy! I know! Another mad one is Covent Garden... It is Cov-vent, sounds like "cov"er. The really long string of a name posted here is in Wales.

honestly, you said Warwick, the 'w' is silent, I can still hear you saying War-wick, so I don't know how do you define, not sounding the 'w'. Im from the UK, your Manchester doesn't sound right too. Plus, in UK, there are different accent in different places, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Wales, Scotland and Midlands, etc, even yourself have accent. Your Eng is wrong sometimes too. Sorry, I don't now your background, what qualifications you have, may be teaching Eng as a 2nd language? But, still, what's your right to judge the others? At the end of the clip, you said , you have started teaching Eng since you were 16 or 17. When I was listening to it, I can tell, it was spoken by a HK Chinese. So, don't judge the others' accent. I believe your Eng good, but even the greatest teacher makes mistakes in teaching. If you don't judge the others and just teaching, it will be great.
Hi Carol, it wasn't my intention at all to judge others based on their command of English. Of course you're right in the sense that even Brits could speak with completely different accents! And I wasn't trying to say that there is one single standard that everyone must adhere to at all. And I am not trying to say that teachers don't make mistakes either. Indeed, there are times when I pronounce a word wrongly. I never purport to be the perfect teacher who never ever makes mistakes! Perhaps you can take a look at more of my videos and you'll understand that all I'm trying to do is help my students get across their message in a clearer and more articulate manner. :(
@@TiffanyTeachesEnglish my bf is Scottish, his dad's accent is difficult for me to understand, I also have a fd from Manchester, her accent is strong too, also my Native Eng fds , they don't always speak we so called correct grammer, in fact, language is for communication, as long as we can understand each other, that's all OK. unless the Eng skills is limited that no one can understand, then he/she needs to find ways to improve it.
Carol Lee I agree. And I hope you can tell that I wasn’t trying to pick on people’s accent or grammar, I was pointing out different features of English to help students learn the language. I myself don’t always speak or write with perfect grammar either. (you can tell from my podcast) I don’t think perfectionism itself can help students learn well. All I am doing is encouraging students to be brave enough to speak up (despite having an imperfect command of the language） while continuing to be analytical and meticulous. :)
